Awww.
But you're right. The 332 complete collection only counts when you have all the free gifts!
Though that means I need to replace issue 232 as last year the stick tape holding the magnifying glass to the cover lost its stick. Then I put the magnifying glass somewhere "safe" and it's since been completely lost.

I believe the magnifying glass was identical to the one that came with packs of Micromachines. Cheapest gift ever.
If anyone in the print industry would like to make some repro Headmaster datascans I'd very much like to receive one.
Elliott.
p.s. I contacted the fella who was after missing issues last night, but if anyone needs missing issues, I still have a pile. I created a pile for John Cullen, but he didn't get back to me.

All I'm interested in is collecting the issues - free gift or no free gift! Issue 1 with the free gift can fetch quite a silly amount of money and seeing as I don't seem to have more money than sense I'd be happy if I found the issue without the free gift. I've looked through my collection of issues and I have a grand total of one and a half free gifts - I have half a data scan from issue 130 and also the booklet stapled to issue 200.

My #1 has the transfers, but they have been applied to the poster. I don't plan to collect all the free gifts, though I would like to know what they all were, as many just say "free poster".

I don't think you need _all_ the free gifts, but some, like issue 200, are really part of the collection. I also think you need all the annuals, the animated movie adaptation UK release and all the numbered collected comics to have a complete collection.

Well I think I've got the essential freebies like the #200 thing and that special teams one. I do have the annuals and I am after the collected comics, just need eight of those.
Does complete works 1 have any differences? I did pick up number 2 because of the alternate ending. I will get Plague of Insecticons at some point, but I can never be arsed. Only other UK comics I'm missing are fleetway 2 and 4.

Just the cover, which is headed "The Complete Works Part 1" rather than simply "The Complete Works". (Preumably the publishing details inside are also slightly different.)

Is it love, or merely a fleeting infatuation?

The Special Teams poster comic is essential. Three pages of Barry Kitson strip as I recall, tying in with Second Generation.
I thought the TF Universe compilation book was a UK publication as I remember it being advertised in the UK comic, but now I check it appears to be US.
And Fleetway does count. (It's Marvel continuity after all.)
You must also have _either_ the Action Force Weekly or the Action Force Monthly issues containing the concluding parts of Ancient Relics. (I have the Monthly.)
I only have a couple of Collected Comics specials, BUT... I have UK #1-332 (plus all the Marvel annuals), Fleetway #1-5 _and_ US #1-80 (plus all the US mini-series), so there.
What I've never seen are the US 'Digests' which I once heard of, apparently reprinting the early issues. Does anyone know anything about these?
Martin

I have a couple of them. They are the size of those Commando War Library books. They reprint two issues of the US comic, with a couple of random universe entries and are on card covers. I wouldn't say essential, but handy travel reading. The repro is as best as you can expect, though I wager they'd be better in black and white. Marvel's then current printing method was not the best and of course the colouring itself is legendary.

I think I've seen quite a few of the digests on eBay recently. Forgot about the Action Force, but I do have them.
The TF Universe trade was released in both the US and UK, mine's a UK copy. Same contents but I think one of them has "Volume One" written on it - or some slight change to the cover.

"I thought the TF Universe compilation book was a UK publication as I remember it being advertised in the UK comic, but now I check it appears to be US."
The edition I have, I'm sure, was published in the UK. It has a £3.50 price on the back cover.
I have a handful of the AF monthlies with Ancient Relics in, but not the full story. In fact, that and "Raiders of the Last Ark" are the only two Marvel TF stories I have never read complete versions of.

I also have all of the annuals plus a few of the US issues and Marvel G2 issue 1 (the gatefold cover version). I tried to pick up some of the digests and a complete set of the US issues from American buyers off Ebay but kept on getting outbid.
An American buyer is the best person to pick up the US issues from on Ebay as they don't consider them to be too rare like us Brits do. The only problem is that postage is a bomb.

And highly variable. I suspect this is because many American sellers simply don't expect to sell overseas and so don't know the best rates to use.
I have a fair way to go to get all the US issues. I'm not sure how many I have, really. I have browsing eBay .com a bit lately for them, but I'm not in any rush to get them. (Half the time when I see a suitably-priced issue I can't remember if I have it anyway.)

This is getting out of hand!
To be a 332er, you just have to have Marvel UK 'The Transformers #1-332. By all means collect the many other publications as well but to collect them all is something else entirely. That is beyond being a 332er! I'm not sure what we'd call that.

For a complete set of pre-1993 stories, all you need (I think) is #1-332 (including the Special Teams poster comic), the annuals, and the Movie and Ancient Relics in one form or another. So I guess that's something to aim for which doesn't go too far beyond the basic 332.
But if you want all the profiles, you need Universe #1-4 (the mini-series, not the compilation which misses a few out) and the second half of the US run, which had all the Headmasters, Powermasters, etc. So I guess that's the next level to go to.
There isn't really much point in going beyond that (Collected Comics, US mini-series, the first half of the US run, Digests, Complete Works, etc.) unless you really care about getting all the cover art, and all the stories printed in full colour.
So I'd say there were three stages of obsessiveness for a pre-G2 UK TF comic collector - getting all the stories, getting all the profiles, and getting absolutely everything. I'm happy to stop at level 2.

I think I am a Level 2 on the McV Scale.
However, one of the Collected Comics, (I think!) the one that reprints "Enemy Action" has AtoZs on some of the Headmasters that don't use boxart like the Annual ones and don't spell Gort as Grot.

I remember that. (As I recall, Apeface's motto was cut off mid-sentence.)
However, they (like most of the UK A-Zs from the weekly comic) were just shortened versions of Universe entries featured in the US comic. Those same Headmaster profiles also appeared at the back of issues of the US comic, only with more text and all modes illustrated.
For those who only got the UK comic, there were examples of the US-style profiles printed in full in the last few UK issues (Fortress Maximus was one, I seem to recall.)

You are a very nice man Mr Hopkins. My current need list is:
1-6, 8, 12-15, 17, 19-22, 24-26, 42, 60
Woo only 22 left! If Zudobug has pinch some of needs then that's entirely my fault.
