Train 2. As per usual with Cross Country, absolutely rammed when we boarded. Civilians refusing to vacate priority seats even after I fell. Cleared out a bit at Bristol Templemeads

For the last incident you were involved with down here the other week they came within three minutes.
I can only surmise your paramedics came from Skipton this time...

Typical of NHS Lothian's poor service, alas. The crew themselves were great but the wait time was shocking for what was needed. Utterly shocking. I'm still furious about it.

I assume each ambulance HQ for a region has a triage of sorts where they prioritise emergency type/traffic/distance from avaliable vehicles/etc. etc. There are unfortunately so many unknown variables and the NHS trust can only do so much. It'd be great to have a huge amount of redundancy built into the service and a distribution of paramedics across a region to account for unknown peak times and to get to emergencies quickly, but I just can't see it being done realistically. Shockprowl, tell me I'm wrong! Please!
I have visions of Shockprowl going rogue when he hears of a different emergency to the one assigned to him and he feels they should tackle them in a different order and those pencil pushers at HQ had better like it because its his way or nothing. Upon being summoned into his boss' office and being told he's out of order he retorts with 'the triage was out of order, you're out of order... the whole freakin' system's out of order!'
Upon returning to his ambulance his rookie partner looks on nervously. 'How'd it go Iain?' 'I made the call. It's on me, you're not even in the conversation'. 'You're a paramedic, not a miracle worker! The academy taught me it wasn't our call to make!' 'Don't you get it?? It's ALWAYS our call to make. Those in HQ, they don't know what it's like, all they see is numbers. We make the hard decisions or people DIE!'
At that moment a call comes over the radio. 'Move out from behind the wheel, rookie' Shockprowl says. 'I can't let you do that, you're suspended... but you can get into the passenger seat!' the partner says with a smile as they fire up the engine.
Shockprowl climbs on board, grabs his shades as sirens start to blare and the ambulance speeds out of ambulance bay.
Black and white stills of the two of them saving lives in various ways as Bonnie Tyler's 'I Need A Hero' plays before one final shot of Shockprowl giving the thumbs up as it fades to black.

Fun fact, I used to work in ambulance commissioning many moons ago! There are different time targets for different severities of emergencies, obviously it is needed to prioritise life threatening events first, and there are only so many ambulances to go round. www.england.nhs.uk/urgent-emergency-care/arp/

Shockprowl, tell me I'm wrong! Please! I cannot tell you you are wrong. The above is essentially accurate. As Blue' says, different targets for different things. Everyone does their best, actually. But yeah, only so many Life-savers and Heart-breakers to go around...
