And certainly whenever I went out in an ambulance (got to do a few ride-alongs), the amount of calls which turned out to be completely spurious was shocking! (And they distracted from actual emergencies! Don't know if any of the increased public information about what to do has helped in the past few years?)

I have visions of Shockprowl going rogue when he hears of a different emergency to the one assigned to him and he feels they should tackle them in a different order and those pencil pushers at HQ had better like it because its his way or nothing. Upon being summoned into his boss' office and being told he's out of order he retorts with 'the triage was out of order, you're out of order... the whole freakin' system's out of order!' Upon returning to his ambulance his rookie partner looks on nervously. 'How'd it go Iain?' 'I made the call. It's on me, you're not even in the conversation'. 'You're a paramedic, not a miracle worker! The academy taught me it wasn't our call to make!' 'Don't you get it?? It's ALWAYS our call to make. Those in HQ, they don't know what it's like, all they see is numbers. We make the hard decisions or people DIE!' At that moment a call comes over the radio. 'Move out from behind the wheel, rookie' Shockprowl says. 'I can't let you do that, you're suspended... but you can get into the passenger seat!' the partner says with a smile as they fire up the engine. Shockprowl climbs on board, grabs his shades as sirens start to blare and the ambulance speeds out of ambulance bay. Black and white stills of the two of them saving lives in various ways as Bonnie Tyler's 'I Need A Hero' plays before one final shot of Shockprowl giving the thumbs up as it fades to black. This is also highly accurate. Many a time I've heard my boss shout, "Cook! Get in here with ya piece and stethoscope!", and I get put on traffic duty whilst The Service tries to get it's insurance back...

Fun fact, I used to work in ambulance commissioning many moons ago! There are different time targets for different severities of emergencies, obviously it is needed to prioritise life threatening events first, and there are only so many ambulances to go round. www.england.nhs.uk/urgent-emergency-care/arp/Oh I am fully aware of the triage system (which also applies to Scotlandland). I can't go into detail but, ah, the type of emergency with this case is one I have a lot of professional experience of and I know the response times for that type of thing. For comparison exactly the same type of thing is usually within the 10-15 mins bracket. 50 mins put both the person and myself at serious risk. Not a good time! -Ralph

I take a dim view of folk calling 999 for non-emergency situations. -Ralph

Hence my anger. I was even told to get off the phone by the operator before I could complete my description of the incident!
Ad I said, however, the ambulance crew were great.

There's a comic in this. Ambulance Commissioner Blueshift sends the secret signal to caped crusader Shockprowl and his Shockmobile. Saving lives while endangering his own with his reckless insurance-invalidating antics.
Winner!
And of course the secret signal is a massive hundred foot wide arse emblazoned by searchlight on the dusky clouds of Skipton.

My dad thinks he took out the footbridge at Newton Abbot but I'm sure there was another one as well
(Basically an incident with transporting equipment that was too tall!)
