Can you eat non-purchased meals in a pub/restaurant?

Not in a restaurant, certainly.
And in a pub that sold food, I'd frown on it unless there were exceptional circumstances, such as Ralphs.

Not in a restaurant unless under 5.

Where do we stand in buying Supermarket own brand food/drink and having them in the store cafe rather than buying direct from said cafe? Exactly the same stuff yet strangely cheaper...

IIRC this is either a VAT thing or you're paying to use their facilities to sit down & eat.
Either way it's a no no

What about at the cinema? In that case I'd give my biggest, loudest YES! ever.

IIRC this is either a VAT thing or you're paying to use their facilities to sit down & eat. Either way it's a no no I use to frequent a local Sainsburgeries cafe and bought their own brand sparkling water in there. One day I went in and the employee behind the till advised me to put it back, go buy an identical bottle from the shelf in the store and I could sit in with that as it was cheaper. Exactly the same product. So I did many many times thereafter. -Ralph

I am with Phil on this.
Cinemas however I always take my own in although in occasion I do go for some pick and mix or an icy coke.

ICY COKE.
Cinema is the only time I ever drink coke now. It's become a thing. A rare thing as I go to the cinema once in a blue moon. Penny sweets from Tesco or Wilko's though - cinemas charge too much for the same stuff.
Besides, I thought cinemas didn't mind people bringing their own snacks? If they actively discouraged or barred bring your own, then I'd buy there. But I'm sure it's fine to take your own. Just so long as you don't do something like set up a barbecue in the front row.

Oh yes, long gone are the days of not taking your own food into the cinema. I think they understand now that they need to do everything possible to get us through the door, even though the concessions is where they make the biggest margin.

I'm still stunned that a year or so back cinemas took that step to halve their prices. Daring, but laudable.

Vue did and I think my local Odeon followed suit to compete. At Vue the cost of a standard seat went from something like eleven quid to a fiver. Permanent change. I go to the cinema so rarely I tend to sit in the VIP seats, that used to cost about £25 for me and the missus. Now it's £7 each.

I would say that the most likely answer to the question of _can_ one eat food in a pub that was not purchased there is missing. I would say that it depends on how busy they are, and how observant. If they spot you then they are going to ask you to desist, or to leave it you don't - so you can't. If they don't spot you then they won't, so you can.
Whether you _should_ do so or not is surely a different question?

I think Cineworld actually state in their terms and conditions you can bring in your own food.
Not seen any half price cinemas around here. Vue up in Bury is five quid per film but only in a certain narrow window of times. Suspect that is what Pinwig stumbled upon.

Back in Edinburger the prices kept going up. Around £11-16 for a film there hence why I used the Cineworld card most times.

Although I will say this - food purchased within the cinema is given in low noise packaging. When brought in from outside, it is not and this is a problem.

Well, Pinwig's always stumbling 'cos he's got one leg shorter than the other. Either that he trips over all his unopened Transformers.

I assumed it was a national change but it must be that the Vue here was losing customers. Fiver a seat any showing. Been like that over a year. *Googles* Ah right, it was 22 selected cinemas. Feb 2018. Mine was one of them. £4.99 a seat any time.
