Today I discovered there is a giant Tuplip bacon factory a short walk away while I was out foraging for ivy leaves.

First attempt at Jam making today. If it works I can probably make a half dozen jars with the brambles still in the garden.

This must happen. You'd sell out.
Stick out some loaves and you'd be selling meals to raise money for meals!

When I moved in to new abode I had to deal with a squatter outside my door on day 1. Chased them off and they seemed to get the message after a few days. Ever since been dealing with gangs of folk (late teens to mid 20's) using my landing and causing various problems (drugs, litter etc). Had to chase them off several times. The communal area carpets had to be changed as they were pissing and shitting on them. Very very stressful and I have not felt safe here at all. Local authority refused to assist. Police refused to assist. Over a month of literally shouting at the building managers to properly make the building secure and as of today the doors to the building are finally fixed and the access code changed. It was especially stressful on Friday when after a long journey I had to chase two of the arseholes away on arrival before they could encounter my mother which would have been very frightening for her. Hopefully now they can't get in to the building and will finally get to fuck. I am stuck here for another 10/11 months and I would like to be able to feel safe in my home. What makes it even worse is that it's bringing back horrible memories from my past and feeling trapped. If it wasn't for this it would be a great place to live for a year. -Ralph It's been very very frightening. Had I the sufficient savings I would have quit the area and left after the first fortnight. Hopefully now the problem is solved. Fingers crossed. The flat itself is nice and fits my needs perfectly. The area is nice. It's just that I haven't felt safe in it. I feel really let down and shocked by the Police's refusal to render assistance of any kind. All I was asking for was some input from the local community safety officers. -Ralph Changing the door code has not stopped them. Evidence they have been in overnight. -Ralph

Better result from the Police this time. Community safety officers (PCSO's they call them here) will be in touch. All I asked is they include the area in their rounds and/or put a notice up. Woman on the phone very helpful. Fingers crossed.

I feel like someone may be feeding them the entry code, or they have another way in.
Is the building freehold council or privately managed / owned?
If they can't sort it, I'd claim breach of contract as you signed up for a year with appropriate security and move.

The difficulty is the company I pay rent to is different from the one which manages the building so I am stuffed.
The whole move has been a disaster. Worse job, injured by a medical professional which causes daily pain and picked the wrong place to live. I can see myself moving back to Scotland next Summer.

Pretty much decided today that the move to Manchesterland has been a bust. I now intend to move again next summer and try my luck elsewhere. In June the next OU course (starting next week) concludes, there will be 2 months left on lease and I'll have have done a year in the job so putting all those factors together that will be time to go. Whether I go back to Scotland or try elsewhere in the UK is something I will ponder over the next few months. I moved to improve my health, wellbeing and employment. All have got worse as a result of where I landed. Now I have decided this is all temporary for around another 9 months it feels like a giant weight has been lifted from my shoulders.
