Yes Martin! Phil has clearly had enough of experts and prefers the court of savage popular opinion on this technical matter.

People think bats are rodents, koalas bears, pterodactyls dinosaurs, Thomas a train and New Year's Day 2020 the end of a whole number of decades AD.

So the first decade AD begins on which year divisible by ten, exactly? (At least it doesn't say whether the decade begins at the start of the year divisible by ten or the end of the year.) Martin

That ISO standard's definition of century also makes no sense for the first century.

So... what's all this about then? Is "No, NAME, no," a reference to something recent in popular culture that only Ralph and M know about? Does the second "No" cancel out the first? Because from the context in which they are used, it often makes more sense to me if "No, NAME, no," is read to mean "Yes, NAME, that's right..." Martin -Ralph

Not everything Martin says is 100% correct. Especially now that Phil has gotten to him. The slow disintegration of Martin's mind in this thread is not how I thought 2019 would end. -Ralph

I await an explanation of how the ISO definitions of decade and century hold up for the first decade and first century AD. My work involves sitting on committees that write standards. They are not infallible. Martin

Chap came around this morning and spent two hours installing a smart meter. Energy company had their heart set on giving me one, so I picked a day when I knew I'd be in anyway.
As soon as he left, I unplugged it and put it away in a drawer. No sense wasting electricity.

Happy New Year.
Not usually a fan of new years even less so decades but seeing the back of the last one bothers me less than normal.
So for now I will attempt to exist in a positive state.
Till the next awful thing happens.

Phil has chosen a thread title that might cause Martin to explode. However, as we all know, he is retiring from week thread starting this week, so we enter an uncertain future.
I wonder if this year I will manage to spend less on toys.
