Written and produced by Nik Kershaw. Love Nik Kershaw, me. You can very easily tell the one and only is a Kershaw song.
I stood next to Chesney Hawkes through a Thunder concert many years ago.

Huh. Quite a Hub connection to The Ches'. I may actually have to readjust my Chesomitter...

I am not a fan of Thunder though. I spent a fair amount of time ranting about them at Download last year.

It's okay to not like Thunder.
They are...not good.

Thunder were a band I was passionate about in the 90s. I've seen them dozens of times. Some of their stuff is great and to the point they first split up I had, still have, every commercially released track. Complete collection of everything. Then it all went downhill. Not so much the poor music, although Wonder Days is good, but the way they decided to treat fans. Releasing concert CDs you could only obtain if you'd been at the actual concerts; breaking up and reforming three times to play on the publicity; churning out album after album of mediocre live stuff and studio off-cuts. It really felt like every time the coffers were running low they'd put out yet another special edition or a concert disc that sounded just like all the others.
For me it was really the exclusive concert CDs. I was a completist and dedicated to the band, meet and greets etc, then they released about eight CDs that you could only get if you'd been to the concert they were recorded at, which was always the Christmas show at Nottingham Rock City. I live on the south coast, no chance of getting to Nottingham on a week night. I genuinely felt betrayed by that and it killed my interest in them.

Thunder was always a band that just encapsulated the very worst of UK Dad Rock. Trying too hard and just lacking in any rhythm, but my disinterest turned to outright 'I cannot stand this band' with the dull as dishwater, flat, and unforgivably boring cover of "Play That Funky Music".
An absolute atrocity.
But in the interest of balance, I thought "It Happened In This Town" was alright.

I wonder what Magic 8 Ball thinks of Thunder...

Yes, there were some poor tracks and the covers weren't great, but the first two albums had some great songs and Danny Bowes does have great range in his voice. From that era I did like Little Angels more, but I do still listen to Backstreet Symphony and Laughing on Judgement Day. Past that it's hit and miss, after they reformed most of their stuff is rubbish, but Wonder Days was a brief return to form.

Is the Magic 8-Ball having an off-season? I require wisdom.
