Well, that was very Battle of Helm's Deep.
I think end of episode 3 is a good place to stop for tonight.

Slow down! Savour, don't squander! No, they feel like they are made to be watched immersively, back to back. I could never watch a series like Game of Thrones one episode per week. Even one episode per day makes it feel like reality keeps interrupting where it has no business being. Martin

Just bought Game of Thrones season 8 on Blu-ray. Mine came with a free photo book apparently exclusive to HMV. That's this week's evenings gone. Okay, two of this week's evenings. Or three if I watch the special features tomorrow. That was the very definition of top-tier television. Martin

Watched the first part of War of the Worlds. Not as faithful an adaptation as the Edwardian setting might suggest, but very absorbing viewing none-the-less. Very well done I thought.

Watched the first episode. Did not go back for more.
Almost at the end of season 3 of The Crown. Still enjoyable and interesting but the change of actors has been quite jarring and I can't help but feel they are not as good in the roles collectively as the previous group.
Lost in Space season 2 is available from Tuesday so we'll binge on that over Christmas.

BBC War of the Worlds. Hmmm. 'Inspired by' rather than 'based on', I would say but that is ok. Episode 1 was a bit ponderous but watchable. Episode 2 was pretty pretentious and astonishingly dull. Episode 3 was the biggest pile of shit I have seen in quite some time. Utter, UTTER, crap with NO REDEEMING FEATURES. It made me so angry!!!
Controlled flight into the ground!!!

It did indeed. First few episodes were definitely not as good. I am unfamiliar with the original source material so judged it purely on its own merits. Some really interesting ideas around the robot.

I think it is by a country mile the worst version of War of the Worlds in any medium I have encountered. Yes, even that pish TV show that used to air late nights in ITV regions. All is forgiven now.

Tom Cruise version is actually pretty good I think. As a reinterpretation.
I'm a sucker for anything with a tripod in it. Part 3 coming up now!

I loved the original series and I am the one person who loved the 90's movie. sorry, it seems there are two of us! I must have seen it three times at the cinema. And I still like the Apollo 440 single. This cold war just got hot!

Hmm. Okay. So episode three was a let down after the first two. Shame. Can't really defend that on any level.

It was misjudged. I didn't mind George's role being split between him and Amy, in a modern context a straight adaptation probably wouldn't fly, but to do that to the Martians... Stupid. I could overlook the bizarre spinny ball in the first episode, although I was aching for the unscrewing and the tentacles, but how could those Martians have possibly developed the technology for spaceflight and those war machines? I could also forgive the future sequences too because everyone knows how this story ends, so there's a need in any adaptation for some obfuscation to keep interest up, but yes, agreed, that last episode was rubbish. The sequences with the war machines were top though - especially that moment when the navy opened up on the one on the shore. The hairs on my neck stood up watching that.

Watching the last Jumanji film on Netflix. This is really good! Made me realise how genuinely funny action films are a rarity these days.

Trying to decide what to watch at 9 tonight.
Options are the new adaptation of 'A Christmas Carol' on BBC1, 'Demolition Man' on ITV4, episode 2 of 'Star Trek: Discovery' on E4 or 'The Mask' on 5Star.
I'm fond of both films, but feel I should watch one of the TV shows as I haven't seen them before.
Episode 1 of Discovery was OK.

I'll start watching Discovery as I want to see how the cliffhanger is resolved, and the first part of Demolition Man isn't great anyway. (Until the part where they revive Stallone in the future.)

What have they done to Demolition Man???
Every time someone now says 'Taco Bell', it has been dubbed over by the words 'Pizza Hut'!!!
I have seen this film half a dozen times, and never had this before!
