Grumble grumble, I was in work all day today supervising an office move. On SUNDAY I will be taking a day off later in the week to make up for it, don't you worry!

Well, I went on my first dormouse survey today. I think the chaps with the licences deliberately planned the roundabout route through the nature reserve so that we had about 30 dud nestboxes and numerous nettles and brambles to fight through (and even a park ranger with a mighty lawnmower blowing pollen into my face by the entrance) to test my commitment before bringing me to the nestboxes that actually had live dormice in them. But it was worth it. Three adult females and a juvenile male sexed and weighed, and a few babies that we didn't disturb, and I GOT TO HANDLE ONE OF THESE IN THE WILD! A protected species, whose presence has prevented road development. Such a privilege to hold one in my hands before returning it to its nest! Isn't nature wonderful? Martin Mrs Shockers goes crazy for these little fur balls. And when Piglet isn't being a Cat, she's a baby door mouse. Didn't know they were protected.

Hello sportsfans. Work again tonight. 3 of 3 night shifts. Urrrrresh.
Then tomorrow, I'll be having 2 more Errections, in the form of Piglet's new swing and sandpit (for her birthday next week), and hopefully a few swift ales with my police buddy, swap war stories and the like.

Yeah, you need to be with a trained licence-holder, and named on their licence (which I now am) just to go anywhere near one. Well done on your run, Andy! Martin

Ah, it is nice to have a good relaxing weekend. A long walk yesterday where I saw a couple of the herons who fish the canals around here.
Impressive birds herons. The way they seem to unfold when they take flight always fascinates me.
Yesterday evening I had an old friends birthday do down the pub. So technically I have been in a place where a World Cup game was being shown, although I could not be described as having watched one.
A quiet Sunday to followup all that - a lie-in during the morning and a nap in the evening to catch up on some much missed sleep, and other than that a day spent on the sofa with a couple of good books and last night's Doctor Who. A very refreshing way to spend a weekend.

That dormouse is adorable. I remember in high school back home in Australia we had a hopping mouse go bounding across our living room floor one evening. Shot across the room and under the couch and my Mother and I sat there, looked at each other and said, 'Since when do mice bounce?'. We managed to catch it and release it in the local park. Very cute.
