Once upon a morning dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore, While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, No some one loudly banging, banging at my front door. "'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "banging at my front door - What the ruddy hell for?" Ah, distinctly I remember it was this bleak December, And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor. From my head I shook the thumps and beating, as I stood repeating, "'Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my front door - Some early visitor entreating entrance at my front door; - What the ruddy hell for?" Presently my soul grew stronger; hesitating then no longer, "Sir," said I, "or Madam, truly, bugger off I implore; The fact is I was napping, and so annoying you came tapping, Correction, so loudly you came banging, banging at my front door, Get thee back into the tempest and the Night's Plutonian shore! Leave my peace unbroken! and take thy form from off my door!" Quoth the postie, "Can you sign here please?" Ooo only one present left to come.

Nice one Dave, nice one.
Things begin to look more hopeful in terms of my upcoming travel plans. I will just be glad when the other shoe drops and I know if I am going or not going.

Appt made to see GP re: advice regarding current spell of insomnia. It's just getting silly now. -rALPH Wow. What a waste of time. GP spent lots of time trying to diagnose me with depression even though I told him I wasn't. Eventually, he was satisfied only after I completed a silly 'I'm not depressed' questionnaire. I'm actually furious about that. Then spent a while telling me I he would not give me sleeping tablets even though I had expressed several times that I hadn't turned up wanting medication but was looking for lifestyle advice instead to try to solve the problem. I even pointed out my lack of history of turning up at GP surgeries demanding medication, which he would be able to tell from my notes if he could be bothered. Pointless. I may have to look elsewhere for advice. -Ralph

Karl, are you coming down south to your Mothers? We're in Kingston from Monday, do you want to meet up? All being well I down at my mothers till the 29th. It would be good to see you. Not sure at the moment how to get to Kingston-Upon-Thames from Banstead (sure I can find out though) and it might depend on what my mother and her husband have planned for the period (we've not really talked about it, it has mostly been weather and travel updates recently). I shall PM you my new mobile number and drop you a text if I do get safely down and perhaps we can coordinate something. Karl

Not long off the phone with my folks. General consensus is that if the forecast for snow for where I am and where they are for Sunday holds tomorrow I'm best not to bother going through. Can't risk my dad getting caught up in travel chaos on the Sunday. Fuck. I've never not seen my folks at Christmas.

The first Christmas without the family can come as a shock to the system. I have had that experience so I sympathise. Then spent a while telling me I he would not give me sleeping tablets even though I had expressed several times that I hadn't turned up wanting medication but was looking for lifestyle advice instead to try to solve the problem. Unfortunately a lot of GP's seem fundamentally unprepared for that sort of thing. They seem to have their brains pigeon-holed into the "hit problem with pills or do nothing" mentality, and seem to be singularly incapable of contemplating any other approach. It really can be the luck of the draw with GP's and it sounds like yours is one of the useless ones. Phil - I have set my mother looking into the issue transport. She seems to think that there is a bus that runs to Epsom, and possibly may be one that runs directly to Kingston but she isn't sure of the latter. We shall see what we can see nearer the time. Looks like Tuesday may be my free day - I had forgotten that my mother has decided we all want to go to a pantomime on Monday afternoon..... I am just back in from delivering the last Christmas Cards to my neighbours - they had given me cards so I reciprocate. It is extremely nippy out there - I don't normally put a coat on to go the three steps around to next-doors front door but I wasn't going out without it tonight. Karl

THANKS FOR THE CHRIMBO CARD HERO!!!!!! You little sweetie!!!!
Hello Sportsfans!!!!
All go here. Why Mrs Shockprowl volunteered to do Christmas lunch for her family right after major renovations I don't know! Good job she's pretty. Just about organised. Thank the Maker I'm not working by some incredible miracle! Working Boxing Day and New Year Eve night, but don't mind too much 'bout those, partic not New Year's Eve. I'd rather work it and let the young people loose on the streets! We have a very excited 4 year old, and, ah what the hell, a very excited 37 year old as well! Barf Barf!
Be safe Cyber Chumbs!!!!!!!

The Kaptain reports he is safely in the south.... well as safe as the south gets. No great journey trauma, but he wasn't travelling with Nick so that's to be expected.

Can't risk my dad getting caught up in travel chaos on the Sunday. Fuck. I've never not seen my folks at Christmas. As with what Gav M said, Its weird the first time that happens. I did'nt see my folks at all over the 12 day period last year and it sucked. Mum and Dad made sure they made an early visit before the snow came and to meet Blaise. Speaking of which, I will have to unwrap Blaise's gifts for her tomorrow and we have been showered with so many. It's a good job I setup two Christmas trees at this present era to accomodate the very extra generosity given. It's the first time a second Christmas tree at home has been made useful. ===KEN

Predictably, Christmas lunch for five came together and was as tasty as ever despite Mum's fears that something would go wrong on the food side. Expecting relatives to pop in this morning, including my goddaughter and her sister, who are always funny characters.
Top pressies received were slipcased Folio Society editions of the Tao Te Ching and Thomas a Kempis' 'The Imitation of Christ', which should provide fine reading for 2011. Also, a paperback called 'Martin's Mice' from my sister about Martin the kitten who secretly keeps mice as pets.

Oh my lord, I'm suffering this morning.
You may know I'm having some ongoing problems with my stomach and digestion. With that in mind I was light on the food yesterday and didn't over indulge. But by midnight I didn't feel well and I feel awful this morning. I'm aware my Anaemia is playing up again (lots of mouth ulcers and breaking nails) and there's a few odd infections elsewhere in the body too. These are both apparently connected with the stomach trouble.
The Doctor's early in the New Year I think. Allergy test, more Ferous Sulphate

Indeed.
*sends telepathic wishes*
Enjoyed Tron. Avoided the boxing day sales as I wish to get over the lurgy quickly and I have enough stuff coming in the post anyway. Said hello to the animals at the city farm (the ducks were very angry but the goats seemed quite chilled out), picked up some shopping at Sainsburys. Now dosed up with placebo-effect cold medicine and about to watch Back to The Future II.
