Likely trickier legal issues to circumvent. And who wants to pay over $50 for that mold?

Some interesting things going on 3P wise at the mo. I think this is a usual Wei Jang thing - oversized knock off of the movie series Blackout with some improvements. It looks very cool and the chopper is huge:

Also, I keep coming back to Generation Toy's Defensor. This Groove looks just as good as Blades did.

It does. Blades has a superb helicopter mode too. I still love the Bruticus these chaps did first. This Defensor looks like it would really go well with it.

Likely trickier legal issues to circumvent. And who wants to pay over $50 for that mold? Um, not really... That kind of falls into the "There aren't going to be any damn permits. You can't get a permit to do a damn illegal thing" quote. All of these "third party transformers" are illegal to begin with, and a large number of them also are clearly infringing on the IP rights of various vehicle manufacturers as well as of Tomy and Hasbro (distinctive elements of vehicle aesthetics are also covered by copyright law in many countries - this is something that influenced the vehicle-mode choices for the live-action Transformers films). I think it is more of a case that it doesn't make economic sense to make a toy that can be combined with someone elses combined mode, when you can make one that only combines with other toys that you are going to make. With the first one, people can buy one of your toys and use it to complete a legal combiner. With the second one people have to come back to you to complete a combiner. All commerce, legal and illegal, is based on the idea of keeping customers coming back to you rather than going and spending money with someone else. There isn't really a lot of competitive advantage for these folk to set up a situation where there stuff is interchangeable with a legal alternative, or with their other competitors in the dodgy market. There is that, but there is also the scale involved. It could be that a 3P company providing a figure to enhance a commercial release will make more off that one figure because they can get a small percent of the tens of thousands of people who bought it, than a much smaller number of people who will buy into their own whole set.
To take a recent example on here, if a 3P co produced leg figures for Elita-1 to complete a set of five, I'd buy them. If they produced their own equivalent set of five figures I wouldn't buy any of them.
I've said for ages a 3P voyager Shockwave would sell buckets, but we now don't need one. 3P Leader Scorponok using the TR head system - the would sell loads because it's a gap in the current collection. If someone did a Voyager Starscream with an accurate earth mode I wouldn't touch the Seige one with a barge pole.

Karl I'm not sure if all third party figures are illegal. There was an RFC podcast or two about it recently, and the message I took out of it was that most of them were not illegal.

Wow. That is a hell of a release schedule. Not all of them look great (Cliffjumper and the Run-bros look particularly clumsy), and Soundwave is just weird - although I can see what they were going for. But some of them I might have to swing for.
The Megatron I'll have to get just to give the TWW/Chaos-Era Prime a sparring partner. I wasn't that interested in Optimal Optimus, but the TM2 Megatron's really nice, and I can't have him on his own, so... And the Maximus Ambus is comic faithful, and has a Minimus, so I could well be tempted by that. (Whilst I contine to wait for a 3P company to do a cab replacement for CW Magnus that provides the mid-size Miminmus.)
All that said, though, I'll be getting absolutely none of these if they continue to steal original artwork from other creators for their packaging and/or promotional shots. Which is an odd stance to take given that this is illegally acquired IP anyway, but at the very least they've just stolen the design, and had to come up with their own tooling - straight up theft is something else.

Some interesting figures in there. The Bluestreak looks very Table-Flippery, so hope for a Prowl repaint stat. Wheeljack looks nice. Might get the this-sized Jazz that's kicking about on the back of this, 'cos then I could have a collection of all my favourite '84 Autobots in this scale (same scale being all important). The Megatron looks magnificent! I just can't help but love figures this size.

Could be wrong because it's really hard to keep track of these things, but I'm pretty sure Bluestreak here is a repaint of Prowl, and not the first use.

Not-Bluestreak is nice. These are the diddy ones, yes? The Runabrothers look like the Sunstreaker that came out a while back.

There's some really nice figures in the mix there. Put me on the list for hoping that Bluestreak gets Prowl a solo release. Primal and Magnus are really tempting.

New Age, them wot did the little BB Shockers liked? Flipper? Doing a Prowl YEEEAAAAHHHH!!!! OH WE ARE JUST TRIPPING OVER NEW PROWLS!!! Flipper was a very clever design indeed. Very small, too small to work with Legends scale, but works with Legion. Intrigued what they can come up with for Prowl.

Certainly has been a good season for Prowls. That one looks very G1, but given the scale - it'd actually be smaller wouldn't it? I bet it uses the G1 transformation.
