I had Armada Op out to do the Overload review. During the course of which he fell on the floor. He's now broken one of his ears :-(

I've just discovered what everyone means when they say gold plastic on Transformers is shocking bad quality. Bristleback's hand actually shattered when I inserted his gun earlier. I mean not just broke, but broke into several tiny pieces!
Whose bright idea was it to make that kind of plastic so fragile? I really want a Black Zarak, but I'd be afraid of sneezing near him in case he exploded.

I'm often amused by the prices Black Zarak goes for, knowing full well that it's likely to shatter as soon as it comes out of the box!

I remember Nick mentioning GPS (gold plastic syndrome) to me a few years ago at Auto Assembly, and sharing many stories with him about my misfortune with G2 Slingshot, Thunderclash and others. Corrodia Gravis and Screplets are nothing, GPS is the biggest threat to the survival of any Transformer.

Beast Wars Grimlock! Do not transform him again. Decide a pose you like him in and keep it that way. Bloody gold plastic. I had Black Zarak, but luckily for me someone else has that problem now. Mwahahahaha!

This whole subject kind of gives a sadistic twist to the Golden Age of Cybertron, doesn't it?
In fact, this would make a great fanfic...the dark history of the Gold Age that they never taught you in school! ...

So why does Goldbug never break? Pete Goldbug is made of indistinguishly softer plastic (as are the other Throttlebots, for when then crash into things) and thus more durable that the more brittle later made GPS suffering Transformers.

Daag...I remember the joy of rolling back the Throttlebots and watching them go:)
It was silly, but indeed there was a sense of fun to it.
Nowadays, this kind of feature is still used - or at least the idea of sacrificing poseability and detail in favor of some "vroom vroom!" like iddy widdy baby special capacity for the youngest kids...
As difficult as it might be to fathom - is it possible that this was the intention behind the THrottlebots? Were they concieved for the younger than usual market but simply stuck in with all the other TFs because the line had not developed the sophisticated divisions that it presently has with small-child/mainstream/collector/adult/super detail etc variations?

Am I the only one who mis-hears 'GPS' as in 'Global Positioning System' in general conversation as 'Gold Plastic Syndrome' and thus is sometimes terribly confused?

Am I the only one who hears 'GPS' as in 'Global Positioning System' in general conversation as 'Gold Plastic Syndrome' and thus is sometimes terribly confused? I get a kind of mental "double image" where my brain interprets it as both simultaneously sometimes. (And occassionaly when someone will say or write GPS meaning "Gold Plastic Syndrome" I will interpret it the other way. Which lead to me having to re-read a Usenet post a couple of times because my brain kept insisting it was about a G2 Laser Rod equipped with a Global Positioning system. Mind you it was late one night and I was tired...) Karl

I bought a complete Predator Talon off eBay including missile launcher. As soon as I got it I thought I'll try to see if the missile launcher does peg onto the underside of the plane. It did, but didn't detach in the prescribed manner.

I had the same thing happen to a Predator jet I'd bought second hand at Memorabilia a few years back. I think it was Snare, the pinky backward wing one.

Arg! Jolt just broke at the knee!
Is GPS a new problem, or did toys break brand new when they were released? I mean, is it a degradation over time, or an instant thing?

They didn't break at the time, but after a period of about 5 years, something in them just goes. There is often no warning, a toy can be fine one moment, and just shear in half the next. People have taken G2 Slingshots out of their card and watched them instantly crumble to dust.

For an example, watch any Black Zarak video on youtube. Most of them break when handled, even gently.

My BZ is still fine besides the odd cracked piece but I got the impression it was a little mistreated before me. I'm curious to see what finally does go on it.
