Would you go and stay in a caravan in the middle of October? No me neither. So Liz and Jonathan can go by themselves.

Harken if you will to Philip's tale of woe. At the start of the month I ordered a new disabled rail card. £20, then I get a third off off peak travle for the year. It's gone awol between the DPRO in Newcastle and Swindon. So when it's not in this morning's post, the given ten working days having elapsed, I ring the DPRO. "must have got lost in the post. we'll send you another." "what about the journey I need to make today?" "sorry, you'll have to pay full price." grrrr. The replacement card better be dated today onwards and not from when I originally paid. and I will try claiming the money back.... Then there's the drugs..... Liz got my prescription this morning took it into morrisons pharmacy but forgot to collect it no problem says I, I'll go and get it when I go out to travel to London she said I'll give you a lift when we go to Exmouth I said no, you go, I've got to finish doing a couple of things left house a 12:30 just missed bus at 12:45 got 12:55 bus arrived at Morrisons 13:03 Pharmacy had just closed for an hours lunch do their signs say this? no does the morrisons website? no So I had a few words with the staff. Then fell over. I then went into town, did a job there I'd intended to do on the way out, back to Morrisons for 2.15, get drugs, back to town to station, on train at Swindon at 3:10, at reading 3:45 (just missed Richmond train) Got 4:10 from Reading, in at Richmond 5:15 straight on the bus to Mum's. About 2 hours later than I would have been if I'd have got the drugs when I should have and the connections had lined up as planned! Morrisons have had an email from me I've had a problem with the Pharmacy in your Swindon store today. The website and the instore signs say it's open 0900 - 1900 on a Monday. Having made a special trip there to get some medication at lunch time today, arriving at 13:05 I find a notice on the counter saying the Pharmacy is closed 1-2pm. The instore staff were unable to help me and told me to come back at two. I'm disabled and had made the trip out specially at this time. As a result of the stress caused by this incident I collapsed in the store and have been left in a lot of pain. The delay to me obtaining my medication meant I was unable to be on the train I was meant to be catching at from Swindon Station at 2pm which in turn led to a delay of nearly two hours in total on my journey due to connections being missed meaning I arrived at my destination in the middle of the rush hour, not a time any disabled person really wants to be out & about. I would be grateful if the information both on the website and instore could be updated to reflect the pharmacy's lunch time closing hours so that I & others will not be inconveniemnced again.
GRRRRR And *then* when I get here 2 hours running spybot on Mum's laptop to remove something nasty she picked up last week! I want a bath then bed. and a long long sleep

Isn't today the date of ToyFu's return to active service duty at the forefront of toy retail?

I have to admire the politeness of your email given what happened, Phil. I don't think I would've had the restraint to remain so diplomatic.
Best of luck claiming the money back for that rail journey, too.

Sorry to hear about peoples bad time this week.
Mines not been so bad in comparison, but decorating has begun to get me down. Its been 5 weeks now I think, but on to the home stretch now. just some wallpapering and painting left.
Had a really productive interview with the agency the job centre sent me to, finally one that specialises in my (hopeful) field and can offer useful advice.

Yes, decorating is a major thorn in my side also- but the end is soon approaching. Finishing touches to Wriggler's room, then the final stretch- THE LOUNGE OF DOOM! I say the final stretch, the flat roof over the down stairs loo seems to be inadequate to the forces of the elements of wetness. The problem is worsening, dampness grows down the wall like an unwelcomed growing thing, and as I'm sure my Cyber Chumbs are aware, the downstairs loo is my Main Display Area for various figeroons of wonderfulness. This problem must be resolved! I don't care if the kids need new shoes! I SHALL KNOW DRY WALLS IN MY MAIN DISPLAY AREA!!!!!

So the laptop was put into repair place which says that it has a 3-4 day turnaround. But I was given today as the collection date (5 days later). So I phoned to check I could come to get it only to be told they had only just started "testing it" and had no idea when I could get it. I paid £70 for this???
I am having horrible flashbacks to the last time I used a PC repair place. Why are such outfits so crap?

My god, someone find me this film en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3_Dev_Adam3 Dev Adam (translated as Three Mighty Men but also known as Captain America and Santo vs. Spider-Man) is a 1973 Turkish film featuring the characters of Captain America (sans shield) and Mexican wrestling superhero and serial star Santo (persona only) as heroes from the Americas called to Turkey to take on a bizarre, bushy-eyebrowed, green version of Spider-Man as the serial-killing villain.

That is what happened to poor Andu.
In other news, after 2 weeks of the online dating thing I have come to the firm conclusion that I absolutely hate doing it that way. Naturally in so short a space of time I did not expect instant success but the process involved in going about things that way is just not me at all. Pinging standard questions back and forth from drop-down menus as if it's some bizarre form of job interview. I absolutely hate it. It feels like pushing buttons on a calculator rather than relating to anyone. It feels so cold and impersonal. Site was decent for that kind of thing but it just didn't feel right at all. Account turned off. No harm done though (other than feeling foolish for wasting money and time) as it was useful for giving me some ideas how to go about it that might suit me better. The hunt is merely...refocussed!

Online dating works for some people, not for others. I've never found it fruitful, but I've got a friend who has.

I'm not criticising how beneficial it is. After all, I never gave it anywhere near enough time to judge that. But I could tell very quickly that the process was just not for me.

HELLO SPORTSFANS!!!!!
All work and no play makes Shockprowl a angry Paramedic! Least that's what I am some of the time, fantastic amount of rubbish going on work wise. Still, I get to do plenty of the important stuff despite it all. Wriggler continues to taunt me with her wriggling, although her sqeeeezable fat bits certainly make up for it. She certainly lives up to her name, wriggles like mad, you've actually got to have your wits about you if you're, say, holding her sat on her knee or something. She'll wriggle right outa there! She's recently discovered blowing raspberries, and appears to use them as a form of communication. Piglet is in a ballet/tap show next month, so there's much excitement about that. She's show mad at the mo, and thanks to my various space/planet books, she announced tonight that she's wants to do a 'Space' show at Christmas! Not exactly sure in what form the Space Show will take, but sounds darn fun to me. Oh and did I tell you about finally getting the bookcases that define me as a person? From the very exclusive furniture retailer know as Ik-ea? Well they're proudly displaying my ever growing collection of Marvel oversized hardcovers (I can't seem to stop buying them and I'm going to be in so much trouble).
Be safe my brave Cyber-Chumbs!!!!

Plans for catching up with folks in Glasgow fell through at the last minute. Thus, I was magnetically pulled to Dunfermline. Once again the Peanut Butter Stack of the 7 Kings pub was defeated. Just.

This evening my two weeks of holiday have sadly come to an end.
I spent the first part of the holiday down in Surrey visiting family and dotting around various places. It was very warm and sunny down there - I noticed that when I stepped off the train and kept noticing it over the course of the week.
Did a lot of dotting about whilst I was down there - off the Science Museum to see things like an Apollo Command Module (timely considering what I ended up reading at the end of the Holiday) and Alcock and Browns aircraft from their pioneering flight (whilst I was there I probably gave a member of the staff a good laugh through lying on my back on one of the landings to get a picture of a '67 vintage aerobatic aircraft that they have suspended upside down from the ceiling. But it was one of those shots you don't get a chance to take very often) - I did the Natural History Museum as well, because like Franklin Richards I can't go to the capital and not go and see the Dinosaurs. One of the new entrances is a bit... concerning, with an escalator that goes up into the open maw of a hungry planet Earth ("Look Arbulus, its Uni..." anyway...). I also toured the HMS Belfast, something I have wanted to do since I was a child but never had the opportunity, and took the family with me up to the RAF Museum at Hendon. Fortunately the family also got something out of the day so I didn't feel too much like I had dragged them along in my wake.
The highlight of my trip down south was a visit to the Bluebell Railway, a place that I apparently have not been since I was four. (That is a little while ago now). It was odd to stand there in the engine shed and look at Stepney, one of their oldest engines, though. Whilst I don't have any specifically accessible memories of seeing it before I had an absolute certainty that I knew the engine even before I saw the name plate. Not so much a sense of deja vu, but an absolute certainty that I had seen it before. We had perfect summer weather for it though, and it was an absolute pleasure even just to stand on the platform and watch old-fashioned engines pull in and out of their main station. (Interesting to me to discover that a couple of their engines had come from the scrapyard at Barry in the early eighties - I had a certain familiarity with the yard due to my fathers love of steam locomotives so it is nice to know that some of those forlorn looking pieces eventually found a caring home).
The second half of the fortnight has mostly been about doing a bit of admin around the house, closing down the garden for winter. I have discovered however that whilst I was away my bean plants actually started to produce some beans. Not many, but in conjunction with the last few carrots from the garden it looks like this week will see me eat the last of this years Veg crop from the garden.
Tomorrow t'is back to work, but thems the breaks...
Karl
