News just in: Mr Merrifield reports much "stupidly expensive" DOTM in TRU Edinburger. He thinks most of the toys look like repaints.

Ditto. I can't see me buying any of them at full price. Though some of it looks good I'll have to wait for offers.

TRU Southampton had Voyager Megs, Prime and Ironhide in today priced at £19.99, very acceptable. Saw Crackcase and something else who's name I do not recall, £12.99 each
Various legends stuff in too

Yes the high (reported) retail price on these means I will be waiting on offers too! -Ralph I need to readjust to the new classes, but while voyagers are still £20 its the size thats the problem. Voyager Prime looks so tiny. I'm far from against small figures, but for the first movie this figure would have been a deluxe and cost £10 if you take the mechtech gun away. It seems to me that if your going to scale down the classes to avoid raising the prices, that that is the wrong time to set aside a fifth of the toys plastic mass for an oversized weapon gimmick. Oh well.

For me it was just seeing the size of the Voyagers in hand that was a little surprising. Throw in the extra 17% on top of that from The Entertainer's prices (let alone the expected price increase) and oh, that can stay on the shelf.

I was assuming (hoping) that a lot of that was just Forbidden Planet's mad markup, and we wouldn't see such a huge price increase on the actual shelves

The shrinkage has been the big shock to me. Actually no, its that the toys seem to have simplified so much. Voyager Prime is not only deluxe sized it looks far simpler than many deluxe toys.
The deluxes, seem to be Scouts with big weapons.
The new scouts (whatever they are called) seem to be nothing but oversized legends. In fact they look a lot like better painted versions of the oversized Poundland KOs. And so on.
If I buy a deluxe I can get over the price and or it being smaller than previous lines as long as it is still a deluxe level toy in terms of articulation and transformation. Right now I'm not convinced thats the case.

I don't mind simple figures. Some of the ROTF figures were way too complex.

Post by Bogatan on May 17, 2011 16:06:11 GMT
Its not complex or not that worries me, its things like I expect an average deluxe to have waist articulation. I don't expect that from a scout. If the DOTM deluxes turn out not to have the features I have come to expect from previous deluxes I'll be disappointed.
In fairness the deluxes don't look bad, but the commanders seem to have a similar range of articulation to the average legends figure. I know thats basically what they are now but they are being priced higher than scout class figures. Shrinking, simplifying and increasing price are a triple whammey, end result is me not buying them.

DOTM I can skip then unless there's an offer on. These are too expensive. Last time there was a big price hike (deluxes at £13, voyagers at £23) I only made purchases on discount. Never paid full price! -Ralph

I think they have mostly reached the point where the price hikes have priced me out of buying new stuff unless I see them on discount. The price of the Cyberverse figures has been the real breaking point for me - the price to value ratio is now distinctly not in their favour.
Ah well - I can concentrate on filling the last holes in my collection of titan trades and picking up some of the Energon and Cybertron stuff I still want on the secondary market instead.

TRU's website has the Cyberverse legends for 4.99, the commanders for 8.99 and the Action sets for 16.99. The action sets were out of stock, but I acquired the rest of them.

Which size? Cyberverse Commanders is 3 x Op, 1 each of Megatron, Sentinal Prime & Ironhide. Cyberverse Op was also the preview figure in the US, carried into wave 2 and repainted with new weapons in wave 3.
