Also on 20/06 is WCA: Along Came A Spiderwoman (COLLECTING: AVENGERS WEST COAST 58-59, 63-75) which meshes nicely with Darker than Scarlet (Byrne WCA v2 which contains #51-57 and #60-62)

I know there's an Avengers Movie next year so all things Avengers is hot but that much WCA makes me think there might be something WCA on the horizon...

And I've just realised I haven't got Strikeforce Morituri v1 yet!

Essential X-Factor v4 proved to be the hard slog I was expecting. Highlights were the annuals I mention above. Lowlights were pretty much everything else.

On the other hand Strikeforce Morituri v1 was an absoloute pleasure. Art's fabulous throughout, especially the flashback sequences and issue focusing on the aliens that Portacio did. The concept that Earth is at war with alien invaders and has developed a process to give people superpowers at the cost of their life being limited to a maximum of one year means you'll be seeing a lot of death and a high turnover of characters. But even so the book still manages to shock when it does kill someone off as the circumstances of deaths 1 & 2 on the team show. SPOILERED due to UK reprints never having covered the issues in question. DO NOT CLICK IF YOU INTEND TO BUY THE TPB!!

Killing Snapdragon/Lorna early was probably necessary to show quite what a lottery the Morituri process is and while 1 year is the limit you could get a lot less. But Vyking/Harold dying in issue 6 is probably *THE* most shocking comic death I have ever seen. He's the star/hero of the first few issues, the team leader and the narrative voice for the series. This really shakes things up. Then Aline getting pregnant and the consequences that has for her & her unborn child who won't be due till waaay after her year is up.....

You need to buy this.

I read the first 6 issues of Quasar a few years ago after picking them up at an NCM for 20p each. It's good stuff! I'll be getting this and hoping for more volumes.

I have Morituri volume 1 sitting in my amazon basket awaiting a price drop. It seems a bit on the expensive side.

Strikeforce Morituri v2: fab stuff again. The change of creative team half way though puts a very different slant on it. I'll say no more because I know some of you haven't reasd and have been waiting 20+ years to.

Finished West Coast Avengers: Family Ties at the weekend; what a marvelously fun comic this is! Glad to have at least 3 more HC volumes ahead of me.

Just finished Strikeforce Morituri vol 1. Very good comics, it's nice to read superhero comics where nothing feels safe - not only is there not a stable status quo, but a return to an earlier one is also off the cards and it's all built into the concept. Refreshing!

Looks increasingly likely that Power Pack col 4 is cancelled; Comixology has it down as such and there's this on the Marvel Masterworks fan-site forum:

On the other hand by looking into this I discovered there's a collection of Peter Gillis's Doctor Strange out there which sounds fascinating (at time of release I had yet to read Strikeforce Morituri so it slipped under my radar).
