The new Hatchette catalogue escaping has meant I've been able to have a purge of the back issue boxes.... Which was rather useful as I needed some space! Turns out I'd not been paying close enough attention because as well as the removal of most of the remaining O'Neill Iron Man Issue there were a number of Power Man Iron Fist, Defenders and Marvel team ups that it had escaped my notice had been traded. The morning concluded with a very satisfactory alphabetical reordering of the Marvel - general box :-) There's currently SEVEN long boxes under the single bed here. From left to right they are: Mantlo: Rom, Micronauts, Alpha Flight (both his and all that followed) and any other Mantlo goodies.
Older X-Men and Annual Crossovers. The X-Men section is surprisingly thin. I may own every crossover annual that Marvel published.
General Marvel, with some space at the back for my Eagle Dredd & Ex Machina
Avengers: everything Avengers. What original series I have not in trades, WCA, Solo and any of the new stuff prior to me going Panini
X-Men: all my modern X-Men from when I started rebuying with E for Extinction. Contains a complete run of Austin X-Men issues!
Panini 1 X-Men, Avengers, Wolverine & Deadpool and Mighty World of Marvel.
Panini Amazing Spiderman. Also contains the defunct FF title and what few issues of Marvel Legends & Hulks I've bought There's also 2+ long boxes in the loft of issues I now have traded!

I have far too many comics cluttering the spare bedroom and recently catalogued them with an eye to selling the vast majority off. Sort of like you in that I'll be keeping the ones that I have in collections or which have sentimental value, or which are unlikely to ever be collected. Also a few from different eras just as examples.
For some I'm waiting for "better" collections - Thunderbolts deserves omnibi! Even then I'd probably keep #1 because it was such a great moment in comics.

Bought the last issue of X-Men I "needed" while at SDCC. I finally have a complete run of the first volume from #1-544, along with the first appearances of most of the major X-Men characters [don't have Iron Fist #14 or X-Factor #5/6].

Very impressive! I remember being gobsmacked when you told me you had the run from Giant-Sized X-Men 4 all the way through. Andy The dangers of working in a comic shop... I have the vast majority of variant covers for the run too. I don't have Annual #1 or 2, but they are purely reprints, so never chased them. Now I've finished the run, I think I'm going to get rid of everything past #350, as that's where I'd stop if I ever got around to rereading them. 2 of those issues Jim mentions are in one of my old long boxes in Kingston! X-Factor #5 and 6 perhaps? I did pick up Iron Fist #15, as it's a Claremont/Byrne X-Men story. And if I really wanted to punish myself, I'd aim to find the X-Men appearances from when the title was in reprint mode [#67-93].

2 of those issues Jim mentions are in one of my old long boxes in Kingston! X-Factor #5 and 6 perhaps? Yup. I'll see if I can find them the next time I'm in town. I did pick up Iron Fist #15, as it's a Claremont/Byrne X-Men story. And if I really wanted to punish myself, I'd aim to find the X-Men appearances from when the title was in reprint mode [#67-93]. There aren't that many. An early Marvel team up and maybe a wedding somewhere IIRC. I think there's a new X-Men appearance in a Marvel Team Up annual that's one of their first appearances outside the main book.

I had the full run of X-factor #1-149 (some in tpb) but it is a good read apart from paper issue around #12-40

Apart from 12-40? That's when Simonson was drawing the title and when it was at it's best!

I have the Official Marvel Index to the X-Men books, I believe they list everything. I do also have Essential Classic X-Men Vol 3, that has Amazing Adventures #11-17, Marvel Team-Up #4, Incredible Hulk #150 & 161. The Amazing Adventures are probably the most important with the whole fuzzy Beast saga.

I have a new quest... Friends have supplied me with a copy of ish8 of Viz's translation of the Macross II manga - which translates the first half of episode 5 "Station Break"... Turns out that not only does the Manga have better art than the OAV episode it adapts (it was the early days of OAVs, they burned all the money such as it was on the first three episodes), but it has a better translation than the English language dub of the OAV. I'm going to end up owning the whole of the mini-series, I accept the inevitability of this.
I've also been furnished with - coincidentally or by design - ish8 of Comico's adaptation of Robotech:New Generation episode 8 "Eulogy" (a.k.a "Genesis Climber Mospeada" Episode 8 "Johnathan's Elegey"), probably one of my favourite episodes of the series...

Not starting a new thread forthis - but this could change our few of comics in the back issue bins. At the bottom of linked page it has a pay list for comics Marvel Now comics 1988. www.newsarama.com/26344-comic-rates-through-time.htmlOne thing interesting is the guy doing the letter page gets $50 How much where the Transformers writers getting at the time - would need to check the sales rate. So Geoff Senior for doing Marvel US work would get paid 2 1/2 times more than Simon Furman. 3 times if Death's Head body in question was done by US pay rates. (seeing this was around 1989-1990 time)

Help needed!
I'm bagging and boarding lots of my old comics. There are lots that are actual A4 size though. The bags will still fit but the backing boards are too small. What sort of backing boards should I use for A4 size stuff? Everywhere only seems to sell modern comic size or magazine (Marvel UK) size.

I don't want to damage them though, I know you're supposed to get special backing board, though they're a bit grotty already. Card isn't cheap though and I don't want to get the wrong stuff!

You can usually find boards of all sizes on eBay. I got some a few years ago the right size for classic 2000AD issues so I could bag and board the first 200 issues. You should be able to get proper boards A4 size and the bags too if you need them.
