Was this the edit with the Sisterhood of Karn plot taken out? -Ralph Yes, at that point the version on sale was still the 60 minute edit.

Bonus points this week for anyone who can explain why the Brain of Morbius video is twice the price of all the others. As pointed out, Brain is the 60 min edit and an early release that Phil never owned. Ditto the cut down 5 Doctors which already looks OOP by this point. The rest have been re-released, or were originally released, at the lower price. Brain is remaining stock of the original release that would be deleted in the next few months. Brain and Five Doctors then got a full length release with new Alistair Pearson covers c1990/1991

I knew Phil would know!
Absolutely correct. Morbius is the only one of those that hadn't been reissued at the 9.99 sell-thru price, so still technically cost the rental shop price it had to start with. Although that was higher than 19.98. Pyramids was either 25 or 30 when I got it. Can't remember now.
Having checked, that advert is slightly out of date. The edits of Talons and Zygons came out Nov 7th 30 years ago, so it's missing the latest two releases.

I think it's a bit odd that they haven't used an American cover for years, but as soon as a girl in a bikini turns up they don't only use it, but crop the image to make her bigger in the frame. But they were inconsistent - they let the cover of US #53 pass them by. Martin

Bizarre to think that we didn't;get the Jim Lee covers at all. I can see 53 being passed by, but by the time 67 came out he was a big deal.

30 Years Ago This Week: Issue #195 Club Con - Part 2: Jessie smuggles Blaster into the Decepticon base through the underwater entrance. She quickly finds Buster, who reveals the Decepticons are looking for two Autobot cassettes - Raindance and Grandslam - who contain information that they were carrying to Optimus Prime from Cybertron hundreds of years ago. The Seacons find the cassettes, Jessie steals them and leaves without Buster, who is shackled in his room. The Seacons pursue Jessie, and Blaster spits the cassettes back into the water to hide them. Knowing the cassettes must be vitally important, Blaster plots what to do next. Elsewhere, Transformation brings news that the Death's Head promotional tour is now entering its second decade on the road; Long Haul and Menasor feature in the A-Z; and on the letters' page, Dreadwind informs Andrew Dornan of Fareham that the comic won't be dropping the 'inferior' American stories any time soon because they're part of the vast saga that is The Transformers.

30 Years Ago This Week: Issue #196 The Flames of Boltax - Part 1: Buster undergoes a harrowing experience as he's forced to test the Realvision system Ratbat intends to use to reveal the contents of Grandslam and Raindance. He plays the data off the cassettes, and with Starscream witnesses Optimus Prime and the Triggerbots travelling to meet Grand Circuitmaster Boltax in Cybertron's past. Prime manages to bypass the Temple of Knowledge's defences, but is watched by Megatron. Elsewhere, Megatron gets a whole page to himself in the A-Z, featuring a uniquely adapted biography incorporating his part in the UK comic stories; Colin and Steve fail to make any kind of impression on the Giggly Sisters; on the letters' page, Hi-Test mis-corrects David P of Ainwick when he asks about who the Micromasters are by saying it's Micro bots and they'll be around next year; and an advert appears for the amazing Every Ready Transformers Powermaster Torch.

I'm intrigued by a reader asking about Micromasters. First US comic appearance was in March 89 in King Con, so is this an early toy find? And does the reply suggest there was a potential name change in the UK like the Sparklers had?

The first 3 Micromaster teams hit tail end of 1988 on cards labelling them as Micro Transformers. I remember the Microbots and Microcons thing from somewhere.
In early 1989 they switch to the Micromaster branding and are joined by 3 more teams and lots of other gubbins.
So there's at least one official name change and who knows what else confusion

Maybe it was a catalogue picture then. For a letter to appear this week it must have been sent mid-October at the latest.

30 Years Ago This Week: Issue #197 The Flames of Boltax - Part 2: The Disciples of Boltax allow Prime and the others to pass into the mountain, whereas Megatron chooses simply to destroy them. Prime learns from Boltax that every Transformer carries a core database of knowledge which interfaces with a vast shared knowledge bank called the Underbase. Prime is allowed access to the Underbase and is bathed in its light. Megatron continues to destroy everything and damages Prime, who escapes to launch the Underbase into space beyond Megatron's reach. While Ratbat and Starscream watch these events unfold, Buster tries to escape but is caught. Elsewhere, Transformation informs readers that a 77 page epic will begin in issue 199 called Time Wars, which will wrap up the saga of Galvatron that began all the way back in issue 78; before that the tradition of one-off Christmas stories will continue as Powermaster Optimus returns to Earth next week; and on the letters' page, Gavin Smith of Mansfield asks Dreadwing for advice about what to do with the Mexican Constructicon set he bought in Blackpool because an article in The Sun (October 18th) has informed him Mexican Transformers are faulty and unsafe.

I had a look around online to see if I could find an archive of the Sun to find this article, but could only find sites selling old papers for mental prices. This could be a microfiche mission next time I'm near a library with a newspaper archive. Given we have the actual date, it shouldn't be hard to find. I'm keen to know of the dangers of Mexican Transformers.
(surely that should have been a Robo Capers strip!).
