I would pay good money for a comic called Sleeze Pendragons.

Sleeze Brothers was creator owned.
Also, I said gone or merged.
80's - Action Force into Transformers, Visionaries into Transformers, Galaxy Rangers into Thundercats. Star Wars into Spider-Man and Zoids...

.... Hulk into Spider-Man, FF into Spider-Man, X-Men into Thor, Thor & X-Men in Spider-Man, Big Ben into Spider-Man..... Rampage into Marvel Superheroes, which then regenerated into Mighty World of Marvel v2 and had Daredevil merged into it before merging with Conan. Secret Wars in Spider-Man and Zoids too.... and SM&Z is an attempt to give a Spiderman comic - which Marvel had killed horribly during TF's 2nd yaer - a toy boost by matching it with the successful Zoids strip from Secret Wars
It's not exactly Match & Dispatch but there's some evidence that what was used in the above, and went unused, had some influence on the choice TFBackup strip and in particular the Marvel Fanfare issues and Machine Man/Rocket Racoon/Hercules mini series.
We know a lot about TFUK's behind the scenes but I'd love a behind the scenes Marvel UK book for this period.

I really feel I ought to be getting that; it looks great and I'd like to support it, but I don't have anywhere to fit it in the regular reading schedule.

30 Years Ago This Week: Issue #215 Guess Who The Mechannibals are Having for Dinner - Part 3: The Pretenders engage in conversation with Master Mouth as he munches on the hapless Chromite. They're careful to conceal their true forms, but when Sky Lynx is rolled out as the main course Landmine takes action and frees him. The Pretenders use their shells to cause confusion and Landmine shoots some of the energon cubes they intend to trade for microchips so he can slip back into his shell masked by the flash of light. The Mechannibals give the Pretenders the chips they need, not realising what happened, and Landmine and Cloudburst make to leave. Race with the Devil - Part 1: Darkwing and Dreadwind have been hired to find something and Backstreet, Dog Fight and Override are tasked by the Autobot resistance to find out what it is. The Autobots are spotted and, piloted by their Nebulan companions, the Decepticons give chase. The Autobots use trickery to evade Dreadwing, but sacrifice their shuttle in the process. The three hang above the Earth wondering what to do next. Elsewhere, Motormaster and Octane feature in the A-Z; Transformation reminds readers that Death's Head is still appearing in his own comic - issue 6 on sale now; and Action Force fans are provided with another superb offer, this time for two exclusive vehicles not available in shops - a weapon transport and a night landing - for £5.25 and three action points each.

Action Force fans are provided with another superb offer, this time for two exclusive vehicles not available in shops - a weapon transport and a night landing - for £5.25 and three action points each. Despite being a sucker for a mail away offer, I never sent off for these at the time - or the Whirlwind available at the same time. I did get the hooded Cobra Commander the previous year. Still don't own a Whirlwind, despite needing a towed weapon for my Vamp, or a Weapons Transport but I got a Night Landing in one of the 50th sets a few years back and despite being little more than a bit of molded plastic it's superb!

This has now got me thinking "what was I spending my money on then?" At this point I'd have been doing a paper round and working Saturdays so had maybe £20-£25 pounds a week money. It's around the point I started getting mobility allowance too. Here's the April 89 comics www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/newsstand.php?publisher=all&type=calendar&month=4&year=1989&sort=alpha which was quite a few Marvel. I did have a HUGE Action Force figure buy around then, found all of 89 at once cheap in Woolworths. Can't remember buying many TFs around then - PM Prime being an exception

Disappointing the way it was communicated: It made me genuinely furious at the time, especially the way readers were told. I didn't mind black and white in comics (I read 2000AD, DC Thompson titles, etc) but I did mind Marvel UK regressing to it as I had been a reader during the very exciting time when their titles transitioned to full colour (on every page!). I felt like the piss was being extracted. This issue was the start of me losing interest. -Ralph

I stuck with it to the end, the loss of colour didn't bother me much. The Mechannibals story, however was not one of my favourites. Broken down like this, it just seemed to drag out. As much as the Joe crossover did, to my tiny young mind.

Mechanicals: doesn't help this is Uncle Bob's running on empty phase.
Is this the Triggerbots first UK originated appearance?

I like them more when I could read the whole story in one go. And the Quickswitch story helped immensely in redeeming them.

I was still strong.
It was a combination of the GI Joe/TF story and the latter Earthforce tales that saw my interest wane and I dropped it for a while.
The early b&w era was quite strong I thought. Again, I wonder what could have been done with a Megatron on Cybertron against a Xaaron led Autobot contingent.

Indeed. As you say despite the loss of colour the proper pish still lay ahead. Though this week was when I startes to lose the faith...slowly...but surely...

Gentleman....Over the last several weeks I have steadily worked my way through this thread. It has filled me with nostalgia and re-birthed wonder, punctuated by Pinwig's brilliant write-ups. I... I hadn't thought about the comic for the longest time. Not sure why... But this thread has reawaken my joy for the Old Girl, who's dog-eared tattered pages I still own. Hub, I thank you. There is evidence of Shockprowl's progress at tmukhub.proboards.com/post/357669/threadI have reread the whole thread over the last few days

30 Years Ago This Week: Issue #216 Guess Who The Mechannibals are Having for Dinner - Part 4: Cloudburst and Landmine make to leave but decide to go back for Berko. They're followed by Throttle and Hi-Test, who witness the Pretenders exiting their shells. The Powermasters tip off J'Oh, the barman, who sees the Pretenders ejected into space. The Deceptions are waiting in their combined ship mode, and capture the Pretenders so they can sell them to the Mechannibals. Race with the Devil - Part 2: Archaeologist Susan Hoffman watches as two jets beat her to a site in Peru rumored to be harbouring a fire breathing demon. The jets are Darkwing and Dreadwind, who on landing are attacked by the mysterious power. The Triggerbots land nearby and encounter Throttle and Hi-Test trying to escape. The Powermasters explain they came here to find Starscream's body, but instead found him... alive. Elsewhere, Transformation explains that Darkwing and Dreadwind can appear in both the lead strips this week because the Mechannibals tale happens before Race with the Devil; Dave Gibbons' classic cover to issue 133 surprisingly becomes the image for the June calendar (seems 1989 decided not to bother with May); and on the letters' page, Dreadwind colloquially explains Galvatron "got knacked" at the end of Time Wars.
