Picked up Star Wars Omnibus Tales of the Jedi today. Passed ongetting the omnibus X-Wing stuff in favour of the regular trades, but this Jedi stuff screams out for a definitive collection, even if at slightly smaller size. Great stuff.

Ah but you need the first Omnibus because the 2 issues LS and the first 4 issues of Rogue Squadron aren't reprinted elsewhere.

What!? Bollocks! I thought the first issues were printed in a trade called 'Battelground Tatooine'? That one's really hard to find. Do any of them include the recent 3 issue miniseries? I am tempted actually to get the X-Wing ones now, the third one is on Amazon for less than a tenner.

No, the first published TPB is Phantom Affair, then follows Battleground Tatooine Warrior Princess Requiem for a Rogue In the Emperors Service Making of Baron Fel Masquerade Manditory retirement.
None of these contian the first 4 issues of the series - The Rebel Opposition. Neither is the newer 2 issue LS collected in here. But to be honest you aren't missing much with both.
They are both in v1 of the Omnibus - along with the Phantom Affair - please tell me you've read this ! - and a reprint of the Handbook. Buy it and it completes your collection if you've got the other trades already.

Off the top of my head, I have Phantom Affair, and haven't read it, but it's quite possible I have read it and it's completely slipped my mind. I'll have to double check! Off that list the only one I don't have is the Making of Baron Fel. I've got the recent mini-series in the floppies.

Read one of the reprint trades of the Marvel Star Wars comics courtesy of the library. A mixed bag, but generally enjoyable pulpy nonsense. The adaptation of the Empire Strikes Back is a rare beast though: a comics version of a film that's just as exciting and thrilling as the film itself! Stunning Al Williamson art.

I hadn't seen art quite like that before and it made quite an impression on me. I have a soft spot for the Marvel Star Wars comic. Quite a bit of it doesn't rise above the "inoffensive nonsense" level, but it has a sense of pace and fun to it that feels very in keeping with the first film. (From which a lot of the spin-off material seems to have diverge a long way over the years). Karl

Yeah, some nice stuff there. Hopefully I can find more volumes in the library. The price-point on them is otherwise prohibitive.
I have vague memories of Return of the Jedi Weekly, though Cyril the Editor Droid made more of an impression! I recall a story about some chap joining the Empire as a lowly Stormtrooper and I think it was his sister who was unhappy about it. Remember panels of feet marching by.

Star Wars omnibus from Titan. Reprinting the 1st 27 issues pf Marvel US run of Star Wars in colour, in a slightly smaller size for only 20 quid. Loving it to bits.

It's the dark horse new reprint with a titan sticker in it, as per usual. Still it is well worth the price.

I cannot remember what it was called, but in the new releases bit in Fp was a Star Wars Omnibus which collected all the UK Star Wars Weekly strips including the mad black and white ones! Some Alan Davis in there.

I saw in today's Marvel solicits that there is a classic Marvel Star Wars Omnibus coming. Is this news? Omnibi are usually announced long in advance, and I'm surprised I didn't notice this one...

I think this one has genuinely been kept under the hat till now. Marvel have only recently got the rights to SW back (because SW & Marvel are both owned by Disney) but I think it was almsot inevitable they'd get thwir earlier stuff back into print.
I've got the Dark Horse volumes from a few years back and there's some good stuff in there. Personally I prefer the material between ESB & ROTJ, and certain bits of the post Jedi stories.
The one real selling point these have for me is fi they collect the ROTJ limited series which was missing from the Dark Horse volumes.
Dark Horse stuff will be going OOP so if you've not got Rogue Squadron or Crimson Empire pick them up ASAP

Hmmm. I'm not feeling it.
Far too decompressed. It's 2015 ffs enough of that. Not a lot of reading for the price point ($5). Also commits the Poor Issue #1 Crime of not really establishing the premise of the series. Ok, so it's a Star Wars comic and..? Just felt a bit generic. Despite all the references it somehow didn't feel Star Warsish for me, though I'm not sure why.
It looks great. The likenesses are spot-on. The characters really do look like Mark Hamil and co.
I don't think I'll be back next issue. I'll check out the next SW series when it starts.

I thought it was a brisk read, not necessarily decompressed as such, but I do agree we could have gotten more store.
Likenesses are bang on and it felt like Star Wars to me.

It is by no means a bad comic. It just didn't have enough of a hook or compelling premise for this particular take on a Star Wars comic series especially when many many other iterations of the premise new and old will be available this year.
If it was the only new Star Wars series in town or there had been a long gap since there had been new SW comics I would give it a few more issues but in this context I say thee nay. Especially when a $5 book takes me under 5 mins to read.
It's a gorgeous thing to look at and by no means awful but not for me.

I have now read 'The Star Wars' ie the adaptation of some of Lucas's original script material for what became the original SW film. All involved have put great effort to putting into life something which should never have existed. Looks fabulous and the creators have done their best but nothing can save the source material they're working from, alas. A great try though.
