A problem started last Friday which hasn't followed the usual pattern for my symptoms and has been constant today so when I got home this evening I logged on to NHS11 and answered the questions, which ended with a bland 'get help as soon as you can' message so I phoned the human being service and got told I need to see someone within 6 hours (so, er, by 3am). Apparently, Out of Hours will phone me back. I am now shitting bricks.

A late night hospital visit reveals that it is sciatica, which I was told will go away in a few weeks though have been given some exercises too. In a lot of pain much of the time of late from that and the usual, which is what I suspect has set this off.
NHS111 didn't half put the shits up me!

Ah right, that's what happened to me a couple of years ago. Slipped disc trapped the sciatic nerve low down on my back which made me feel pain all down my right leg. Thought I had poor circulation due to pins and needles in my foot, and my leg wouldn't support my weight - was limping for weeks. But there was nothing wrong with my leg, it's just the nerve going all the way down was being pinched right at the top.
It did go away on its own (after some weeks) though it never goes away completely. It got worse before it got better though - one day I just couldn't get out of bed at all - and I had to get some co-codamol to see me through that rough patch.

Sciatica is miserable. But the exercises will help.
Glad that's 'all' it is Doc'. 111 were probably worried about cauda equina.

I had it in both legs about ten years ago. Similar experience to Martin of not bearing weight, pins and needles and pain. The exercises were what got me right although it took doc about a year to get me into them. Glad you have them already.

Spoke to my Physio. The GP sent me the wrong exercises (they are for hip pain), which has left me deeply unimpressed. He'll send me some proper ones that help with sciatica.

Thank goodness for that. Glad to hear it's not anything worse.
Elder T has had his lumbar puncture, has moved wards and seems to be improving. Though one of the consultants has ordered another brain scan. Likelihood is he will be home in a few weeks. Short term memory is still not there though.

Physio has now given me the correct exercises to do. So, er, only half a score for the NHS for me. They really are fucking clueless.

Update on the Elder T.
I happened to be in the hospital as a junior doctor delivered the diagnosis. He'd had more scans and another lumbar puncture. Turns out he has had an arterial infarct, or a stroke for you and me. Glad we have the diagnosis, specialist on Monday will discuss the next steps. As it stands his short term memory is better but not great and he's not processing information as quickly as he did before, thankfully he is aware of it though. He's focused on getting better.
Continued good thoughts his way would be appreciated.

The intensity has been coming and going, not helped by the paracetamol doing what it sometimes does. I feel a tad fragile.
Another couple of hours travel to go.

Home and not feeling great so straight to bed. Probably a duvet day tomorrow. Prob a cold (my partner had one recently) interfering with my underlying condition causing strange stuff. No fever or cough so not The Virus.
Rallied a bit mid afternoon for a dinossur exhibition before deteriorating.

There are colds going around too as well as The Nasty Thing. Had one nagging at various levels all winter. Doesn't help hayfever season has kicked in, ALL my friends who suffer have been complaining of similar symptoms to me, round the eyes and a tickle in the throat.

Sympathy. Raging hayfever symptoms here but I'm pretty certain it's nothing to worry about as it includes typical hayfever eye gunkiness, not on the Chaos Big symptom list, and all my local hayfever suffering friends copped the same symptoms on the same day last week!
I will be staying in as much as possible now till I return to Swindon.
