My thanks to Mr Jetty for reminding me of one of the other things rattling round in my head that I kept forgetting to mention....
If Ultra Magnus got remoulded into Powermaster Prime would we be happy if that had a non transforming cab?

Personally I associate PM Optimus as only being the super mode, more than I do Ultra Magnus. The individual Optimus toy was bad, even back then, and he never used it in fiction. You can *almost* transform him directly without taking the cab off the trailer.
UM though was almost exclusively a toy, since once the cartoon was off air, that's all there was for him over here. It also made him extremely unique. Supermodes and armore upgrades were unheard of back then. UM was the first. Optimus was the second. And that was pretty much it. So for me, they sacrificed one of THE most important parts of UM to go straight into super mode. I can deal with the same thing from Optimus far more easily, since because of fiction, the supermode is what made PM Optimus special.
That said, a bit heavier retooling COULD include a deluxe sized G1 optimus. It honestly wouldn't be that much more difficult. Though by then we're approaching the point where it's better to just design one from the ground up. Which is also why I was upset over the UM they gave us being IDW Minimus Albus based.

Yeah, I'd agree - although the smaller robot mode for Powermaster Prime was indeed one of the selling points (and also something I remember liking at the time, since he was more cartoon accurate - which is to say, accurate to a badly-drawn cartoon), aside from an appearance in The Cosmic Carnival, Prime's smaller robot didn't really show up at all. So I wouldn't be unhappy.
Except from the point of view that power-up suits for smaller robots are always cooler than just having a large robot. ;-)

And in Ratchet's sickbay at the start of the Pretender Classics storyline, if I remember correctly?

Yes, you do remember correctly.

He also appeared in King Con and Double Deal of the Century. I feel no shame whatsoever for not having remembering King Con. (Ah, who am I kidding? I loved some of Uncle Bob's bottom-of-the-barrel madness...)

It's the closest the comic felt like to the Sunbow series I feel, with Bob focusing on new toys and them having random adventures.

Ultra Magnus base mode

That fanwanked base from a toy that wasn't designed to have a base mode is better than like... 98% of actual official base modes

Useful if it does wind up being remoulded as PMOP.

Useful if it does wind up being remoulded as PMOP. Looking at how good that is, is it possible that Hasbro were thinking that from the start with an eye on Titan Wars? some remoulding to flatten some surfaces and add a few ramps and you're there.

Because if it is then I won't bother with Magnus.

But... But... I don't *do* mold re-paints/slight re-moldings!
Unless they're Combiner Wars limbs. Or Seekers. Or anything else I like.
Dammit.

But Ultra Magnus and Powermaster Optimus Prime (the greatest hero of our time) are different characters so you're ok.

PowerMaster Optimus Prime....
(one of my last TFs bought before my wilderness years)
It'd be all sorts of awesome...
Kinda wish the Magnus mold had a small robot mode now... 'Cos I would miss that feature if UM is remolded into PM Op.
