I have made no secret of this. I have said this many times.
As a child I cherished the soundtrack cassette of TF:TM (I still have it though it warbles now due to overplaying) as without a video player it was the best way to recreate the movie while reading the comics adaptation special or the Ladybird book. Alas, it was always a shame that the last song on Side B was such rubbish. It felt completely out of place.
The Weird Al song is the only bad thing about TF:TM. I still don't understand what it is about.
Why was someone singing pish about mashed potatoes and chickens in a silly voice in my giant robot action movie? It makes no sense.
The folk that he was signed to at the time were doing the soundtrack. They thought that it would be good to have a Weird Al song on the soundtrack, a bit of cross-promoting. They asked him if they could put the song on there and he said "Trans-whats? Yeah, whatever, it's fine".
A lot of songs are on movie soundtracks for similar reasons.
I am with Ralph. Always hated that song, and it put me off ever giving Weird Al a try. Had a friend at University who absolutely loved his stuff (thankfully he had left behind all his CDs in Canada) but the name was tarnished for me!
Fangry has FANGS and is ANGRY Horri-Bull is HORRIBLE and a BULL Squeezeplay... has claws to squeeze you I guess? Where's the 'play' from? What does it mean? I wonder if that was a last minute replacement. Feels like he was supposed to be called CLAWFUL but that name was taken.
Spydor is OK because it's got a pun element - spy + spider.
But the rest, it's as if the original TF names had been Optimor, Prowlor, Sunstreakor, Trailbreakor, Bumblor, Cliffjumpor, Windchargor, Screamor, Thundercrackor, Thrustor, Rumblor, Buzzsor...
The only things worse than MotU names are Beast Wars names.
What shall we call the BW tarantula and iguana? Oh, let's just use the plural of tarantula and iguana. What about the other names? Let's nick them from G1. But what about the wasp? We could nick 'Buzz-Off' from MotU, that's really good, but we might get in trouble, unless... I know let's just put 'Wasp' and some random letters and 'or' on the end. Ooh! Ooh! And Rhinox is a good name! Yes, for a cross between a rhino and an ox, perhaps. Well, he's a rhino, and it's no worse than Rhinor...
