I've just had that email. I haven't been a subscriber for a couple of years now.

I'm still about four issues behind in my deliveries so this might help me catch up.

Got a reply as to why my subscription has mysteriously skipped four issues. Apparently this is because they're out of stock of them so they've just sent the next ones instead.
Virus aside, it's hard not to be worried by that. Be nice if they'd told me for a start, but I'm going to be very annoyed if I end up with volumes missing. Surely it's common sense to keep enough books for your subscription base.

One would think so, yes, but this is Hachette.
It makes sense to have enough to cover not just subs, but extras to replace damaged or lost stock.

I'm puzzled as to why your sub was started so far behind. And very poor they didn't tell you about no stock.
My sub is a few issues behind but has kept going fine. Early on in the subscription I figured out the best way to handle it was not to disturb things too much. Any time I tried to hassle them to being me up to date deliveries started going wrong so I just left them to it. It has also meant I have got corrected volumes of errors straight off and probably this is why mine have ended up delayed. Saves them sending it all twice.
It shouldn't be like that but.. *shrugs*
Communication is best done via Facebook messenger. I see lots of people getting very shirty and unforgiving with them on FB itself. I don't think it does any good to get like that with any one.
Overall I'm glad I stuck with them and via sub. Looking forward to working my way through now from the start. Read a few here and there along the way but mainly been waiting to do a read through.

Read a few here and there along the way but mainly been waiting to do a read through. Mine started late due to them confusing my sub order with the Warhammer 40K collection. By the time I got it sorted I was about three issues behind everyone else and that's the way it's stayed since. I did try to get them to catch me up once but that resulted in me having double the issues that month so I now just leave them to it. Despite that, and despite the plague of internal errors and re-issues that characterised the early years of the run, and despite the frequent delays (thanks for more of that, COVID, really helpful) they've actually not been too bad in terms of deliveries. I've not missed a volume yet out of 88 (touches ALL the wood) and expect to be done around November time, though if I see a chance to cancel the sub and complete the rest from a shop I'll definitely be doing that and never - NEVER - subscribing to anything produced by this company again.

Any time I tried to hassle them to being me up to date deliveries started going wrong so I just left them to it. It has also meant I have got corrected volumes of errors straight off and probably this is why mine have ended up delayed. Saves them sending it all twice. I just realised I never answered this. I was buying via back issues initially just to get the Marvel books, but then ages back on here made a calculation that going by the then release rates, Hachette would finish the IDW stuff about six years before the IDW Complete Collection hardbacks would, so I sold all mine of those and took out a Hachette sub instead, buying the other missing issues to the point I started. So I've been consistently 20 issues or so behind everyone else since. All has been fine until last month when I realised I'm missing four issues and Hachette don't actually have them to send me. I'm really worried by this, unless they do print more I can see me finishing this collection with gaps in, despite being a subscriber. The mistake I made was that when I took out the sub I should have bought the 20 or so books I was behind as back issues and taken out the sub from the then current issue instead. We'll see what happens. I've been promised the missing books as and when they are reprinted, but I don't believe I'll see them. Not least because two of them were in stock in their back issue shop at the point they were telling me they didn't have them. There is a chance with an operation like this that they can print on demand, so I may get what I'm due in some kind of catch up operation toward the end when they really do shut it all down. Who knows.

I did complain earlier this week and they said they would reorder them and a package has arrived today.
They said it could be up to 14 days, so is this the original order or my replacements?

More big gaps opening with this month's delivery. Suddenly I'm up to issues 79/80! I wouldn't mind if they were doubling deliveries to catch me up, but I'm now missing *eight* issues before these ones.
I'm just not thinking about it. I'm hoping they're going to do a catch up print run at some point to fill in all the holes. They will, right?
right?...

No, I'm paying the same £19.98 a month, they're just skipping ahead with what they're sending me because they don't have the volumes in stock they're supposed to be sending me. Which is pretty shit really. I questioned it and they said they're aware and will send the missing volumes later when they're reprinted. Not sure I believe them.

They should be made to go on eBay and buy copies back at inflated prices to give to you for the normal price.

That would be nice. I bet I get to #100 and they just say, 'sorry, we don't have the books any more' and there's absolutely nothing I can do.

I would stop paying them. Surely they are breaking the law for taking payment for goods they do not supply? I don't think that's wise; if I did that they'd have no reason to send me anything. At least at the moment they are sending books, just out of order. Where do I stand if I refuse to pay? I'll get nothing and they'll cancel the subscription.

They are supplying goods though, just issues 79 and 80 when I should be on two different ones. I expect there's a line in the small print that says 'the next available issues in your subscription will be sent monthly'. I'm not rocking the apple cart just yet, this lot need careful handling when it comes to customer service issues. It'll just make things ten times worse.

Yeah, but I assume the main thing for Pinwig at this point is to get the full set, and as cheaply as possible, and the best way to do that is keep going with the subscription, as that will minimise the number of volumes that will have to be acquired by other means. (And of course they may actually do as they say and provide them all in due course.)
To cancel the subscription so close to the end on a point of principle will either mean he ends up with an incomplete set or has to pay more to get all the remaining volumes.

Indeed. I'm over £700 into this series, I'm not cutting my nose off to spite my face. Who knows, they may actually come through. Hachette produce so many books their operation must be pretty close to print on demand. It's not impossible they could do a catch-up run at some point. I can't be the only late subber in this position. It's just a shame they didn't allocate stock properly in the first place.

Mine are sent a few weeks behind other subscribers but they keep coming in. Early on I learnt the best way with them was not to fiddle. I pay for two books a month. I get two books a month. They're a bit crap but get there in the end.

Volumes 86-89 are arriving at comic shops from Diamond tomorrow. Diamond currently has 88-89 still in stock so if your local comic shop doesn't have them, they should be able to order them. (86-87 are already sold out; they can be backordered but who knows if they'll come back in?)
