Risky but a decent saving to be had.
I've planned ahead and while it wont save me a huge amount its also low risk.
Asda do a savings card, put £144 on it by last Sunday and they top it up to £150. I did that twice so have £300, enough for the remaining 30 issues and saving me 4% per issue. Not huge but better than nothing.

Knew it. Wish my bottle had held on the missing ones I needed. I bought five books off ebay at the start of the week at £8 an issue (new/still wrapped). I'd been in need of thirteen and have whittled it down to four missing, which I can now get at a fiver a go, but that's money wasted. Yes, Bogatan, you did tell me. However, the question now is, given how shite Hachette's customer service is - can I pull a manoeuvre where I cancel my subscription now - (I'm up to issue 28) buy 29-37 at half price and take out a new subscription from issue 38? What chance do I have of that not going totally wrong? I was nearly right there with you. When I saw the store was out of stock I started check ing ebay for any under retail and probably would have started buying what I found in the next few weeks.

It does make me wonder how their store works, why show so much out of stock if they aren't.

My guess is they print on demand. When this happened a month or two back I thought it might be because of the rumours about them moving warehouse, but it might just be that they keep low numbers in print.
Each time a book I needed went out of stock I sourced it for a tenner or less on eBay. This week a guy was selling some locally, so I went and picked them up for a discount. I've sold all my IDW collection books now, so I get twitchy when Hachette books go out of stock.

As if by magic, just as I'm deliberating over the sale prices, issues 29 & 30 arrived today. I've checked issue 30 (vol 75) against the errors Primenova listed earlier in this thread and mine is okay, but there is also mention that issue 29 (vol 72) had problems. Was that a one off or did it also cause a reprint? what was the problem?

My copy had ripped inner pages & had cement embedded into the cover while someone else had faded text. But the rest had nothing wrong & my replacement copy was ok. So you shouldn't have anything wrong with it

OK, the synopsis for the Primeless book was indeed a garbled mess, it doesn't remotely describe the plot of the Mutineers trilogy (Which is why when it was first posted above I assumed it was talking about the later arc where the crew do catch up with them) and apparently the blurb for the OP issues isn't much better.
The Lost Light section of the book also starts with part 2 of a 2 part story, an approach at odds with the prior stated intent the the odd ordering was in places to make book work as its own unit.

That is rubbish.
But, kudos to the letterer, that's very well matched to the original.

Quite frankly, calling him Mister Johnson makes him sound like a huge knob. Richard = Dick = Johnson of course. I'm baffled to think of any legal reason for this that wouldn't have also affected the Classics UK printing. Surely Branson isn't harder to licence than Spider-Man? I suppose it was originally a specifically approved appearance (unlike, say, the various US Presidents over the years, or Ken Barlow) which may complicate it more than when a "Real" person normally shows up, but why now? Surely every reprint hasn't had to pay Branson a fee that Hachette wouldn't stump? All I can think is that Hachette have some specific beef with Virgin (publishing rivals maybe?) and didn't want the company or its founder featured. Like how Branson's cameo in Casino Royale was cut from the version shown on British airways. Though the truth could be weirder. Kind of dickish thing to do to a page that's key in the history of a major British comic artist whatever the reason, that wasn't just Sullivan's first interior work, that likeness of Branson got him his first gig on Who, the job that defines his career!

Well at least it was work that went to the right person. Though it looks like there wasn't much he could do, Johnson has a chin that belongs on the front of a French translation of a Doctor Who novelisation.
Why is still the mystery though.

Furman just confirmed on Twitter it was in *case* of any legal issues over no longer having the proof they had permission to feature Branson. But it's an odd thing to be worried about now (and presumably a worry of others at Hachette as he edited the Titan reprint without it becoming an issue).
Jittery feet after the Dreamwave cock up?

But it's an odd thing to be worried about now (and presumably a worry of others at Hachette as he edited the Titan reprint without it becoming an issue). Jittery feet after the Dreamwave cock up? It's a weird one, isn't it? All I can think is that it's because it probably doesn't fall under the parody/fair use laws. Branson's an actual part of the the story, however small and is a private individual rather than a public figure. Even if he gave his permission back in the '80s, without a written document proving it it would be potentially difficult - by rights, any publisher should seek his permission again before publishing. It's unlikely he'd refuse, or sue, but from the legal department's point of view, why take the risk? (Titan/IDW publishing it is neither here nor there - both likely should have sought permission as well. Hachette are a much bigger company than either of them, and most likely have a much bigger legal department that would catch something like this and flag any potential problems.) To be honest, I'm glad I have the Titan reprint!
