A Pretenders theme should also include suitable nods to their MasterFORCE interpretations as well. And it should go the other way. A Masterforce theme should include coverage of the 'Traditional' Marvel/Hasbro version to serve as a hook for those not familiar with MF. Could be an interesting article in there itself.

I'm a sucker for Masterforce so that's my vote. I think you've done really well with more obscure things like Rock Lords and Masterforce (to me at least) is the most visually interesting. It also already has a butt-ton of Pretender stuff in it.

It's definitely between Masterforce & Pretenders. I think perhaps a poll in needed to decide between the two.
(Although I think Matt M wants to do Masterforce, and as it's mostly his hard work that makes these things happen, he should decide).

Do both with a different cover front and back? Although that wouldn't work so well with the dual shell/robot cover idea which is much better.

One theme better or it will loose coherence and flow.

I feel like you can showcase Pretenders within a Masterforce 'zine, since they play a big part in that series. It'd seem natural.
If you did a Pretenders 'zine, you'd be kinda restricted thematically to only focus on the Masterforce Pretenders and everything else would take a back seat, which would be a shame.
I'm hugely biased towards Masterforce in all TF Media though, haha.

I think it might be doable if you get the overall narrative of the zine right.
Possibly something in the middle looking at Pretenders in Masterforce, the Japanese toys and Metal Hawk to transition between the two halves?

I think Masterforce the way to go. People know about Pretenders, the novelty/niche isn't there. It's with Masterforce, which most Westerners only know about vaguely from Metalhawk and Overlord.
You can tab in with "You may recognise Blood, Diver... etc from their western versions..." but use that as an intro, not a segue halfway through when it looks like you've run out ideas.

How can I argue with the Dayman? MASTERFORCE it is!I'll write up a post with the concept and details and what we need in the next few days!

One of those 90's covers that splits down the middle - Overlord in the centre - when you open the cover, his chest is open revealing Mega & Giga. They'll fly off the shelves. Each book will cost £56 to print.

I know that TFNation are planning a theme again, it might be worth seeing if they are prepared to let us in on the secret in order for us to tailor the fanzine to their theme. For instance this year it was animated, they did a follow up comic and had their own character drawn in animated style for much of their advertising.

But whatever we go with I'd be happy to illustrate a short comic if someone wants to write a script.

For instance this year it was animated, they did a follow up comic and had their own character drawn in animated style for much of their advertising. TFN hat on: 1 - NO SPOILERS!!! 2 - Animated wasn't the theme this year. We didn't have a specific theme as such as there are lots of aspects to cater for, while we might go for themes in terms of aesthetics and approaches, we've tried to avoid being too narrow in focus to avoid alienating groups who might not be into a certain aspect. We were looking at doing an exclusive, and the Animated comic was the right one at the right time. Next year, well...all will be revealed. Genericon wasn't done in an Animated style, until the lovely Josh Perez drew her that way the other night, she has been done in chibi style. (I get to be protective, I'm one of the two Dads!). TMUK hat on. Oh my no, being a slave to a convention theme is far too restrictive, and we'd run the risk of not standing out. TMUK and TFN hats on. The more diverse the better, we want to see as many aspects of Transformers celebrated each year. Andy

Personally I prefer to set the trends, not follow them! How many pages were you thinking about, I'm sure someone would want to write something! (I'm always up for writing but don't want to go bagsying all the talent as editor!)

I've been keeping quiet because I'm struggling to come up with a decent idea to contribute to this. The best I've come up with are something linewide, looking at how it stands on the journey to Takara TF essentially being a different line or something more specifically on GodBomber/God Ginrai. However TMUK and TFN hats on. The more diverse the better, we want to see as many aspects of Transformers celebrated each year. Andy I'd love to do the "20 years of BWUK and BWII" Fanzine idea I had. But it's been 23 years since I last edited anything and I really haven't got a clue how to go about the physical production of a mag!
