Yeah but no but yeah but no, I've always like that, how the heroes, the Autobots, are always out gunned, out sized, out air-powered, out powered generally, by the Bad Guys. No, I think it's all looking really good. The CW Constructicons are too big in individual robot mode compared to Megatron et al, but as Devastator... oh mama, it grates my cheese.

What's the consensus on these two? I'm trying to decide whether to indulge and buy them before they disappear... Jonathan

I think they're great. Lots of people seem to rate the Prime, I reckon the Megatron is just as good. As figures they're the best representations we've had of those two characters. All you need to be aware of is that there is far more detail on them than we're used to for Generations figures, so visually they're a bit different to the norm, and of course they have the battle damage paint applications which distance them further from the previous lines. They're also a little smaller than the last Generations voyagers. If none of that matters to you, as toys they're solid, pleasing to look at and transform well. The Prime is a marvel - mid-transform he is a big flappy mess, but everything tabs together perfectly and very satisfyingly.
We got indications at Toy Fair that these two will be reissued in the autumn in 35th anniversary packaging with a more cartoon season one look.

Optimus is the voyager Optimus we've been begging for. Not only is it nearly perfect looking, it's great in both modes. And despite it being a panel-former, with panels exploding everywhere, it still manages to be a fun enough and intuitive transformation.
Megatron would fair better if CW and TR Megatrons didn't exist. It's the exact same megatron design for the third time in a row, only it does less than TR does. It's a nice toy to have, especially if you don't have TR, but it isn't as "must have" if you do.
At least that's my opinion.

I thought that, because I've only just bought Prime. On the one hand the cartoon ones probably won't look right with the rest of the Siege line and we don't actually have confirmation they really are coming, on the other, as a pair devoid of the battle damage they'll look smashing together.

Yes I find Siege Prime and Megatron to be superb figures. I'd have preferred them to be a smidge larger, but they'll do just fine.
Interesting to hear of the more cartoony version rumor.

Not so much a rumour, more something that was seen at Toyfair before disappearing. One minute they were there (along with Bluestreak and Soundblaster was it?) next, they'd vanished.

I've just opened up Ironhide, and his head has fallen off straight away. Then, as I put it back on the ball joint, the two pieces of said head fell apart. I've put it all back together, but is this common or have I got a dodgy one?
Ta,

Sounds like they forgot the glue. You just got a dodgy one. The leg panels only stay on with thoughts and prayers, though.

Does look like the Battlemaster is Pinpointer - on the right: Colours are good within the limits of the mould: legs, arms and gun barrel on same sprue and thus the same colour.

I've not bothered with any of the Targetmaster Battlemasters yet since they've not looked interesting enough. Pinpointer changes that.
Which is just as well - I mean there's no way I was not getting that set...

It's hard to sell a small, blandly designed grey and black robot on it's own merits. But that's not their fault, as the originals weren't interesting to look at on their own.
That said, the originals were never intended to be sold on their own. They were accessories with a character attached.
And these are also basically accessories, with no publicized character, being sold on their own as a star toy.
It's an uphill battle, and it's understandable if a small, grey and black robot isn't terribly exciting enough to buy.
