No it isn't!
I do think it was bug ugly they were going for. Was butt ugly even a thing back then? Bugly probably wouldn't be allowed these days because of that.

It is a pun, my man.

Huh. I vaguely remember Bugly being presented as a leader type in one story, bollicking Skullgrin? Sure you're not thinking of Iguanus? Martin Oh I might be. Can't remember. Always though it was Bugly. They all look the same to me!

I voted for Iguanus. The shell is nicely detailed and chunky and the inner robots vehicle mode, which I have just looked at for the first time, is identifiable without close inspection or having to be informed what it is.
Bugly's colours are impressive though.

Hah hah! King 'con'! As in King Kong but replacing Kong with Con as it's a Decepticon that's (by pure coincidence and circumstance) doing that thing that King Kong did in the old moving picture show! This is why I like Transformers. It's so clever!

I thought I'd explain it in case there was some one who didn't get the pun...
It also reveals on the cover that the Micromasters are the 'most amazing Autobots ever!' Which has made me ponder which subgroup/toys/gimmick I found the 'most amazing' in G1.
Can we have a poll for the Most Amazing Transformers (subgroup) Phil? On which new 'power' really blew you away as a kid. But they must have a gimmick beyond Transforming to one thing (ie Headmaster, Sparkabot, Special teams, etc)
