I have had a terrible premonition. What if, in a 'twist', Jurati doesn't turn out to be the new Borg Queen after all...but Picard's maw. Hence why the Borg went for him to be Locutus. It's a bad enough idea that it makes sense...

I didn't even remember there was an episode on this week and have felt no urge to watch. Decompressed storytelling can get to fuck.

I've given up until season 3 to see if this wreck of a show can be salvaged before the end.
Meantime, I am getting very excited about Strange New Worlds.

I saved episode 7 in order to watch it back-to-back with episode 8 and get a bigger chunk of story in one sitting. Will probably do the same with 9 and 10.
I see Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins is now free to watch on Amazon Prime.

Im enjoying Picard as I watch it even if its slow. Its only afterwards I realise just how little of the episode actually seems to adding anything.
They could easily have cut the 2024 episodes from the so far 6 down to 5 and most likely 4 without losing anything major. The Gala episode is the only one that I wouldnt change much.
Still Im enjoying it and its structured far better than season 1 and seems like it knows where its heading, however slowly it getting there.

Episode 8 was the first episode where I felt the Picard plot was pointless.
Picard and Guinan get captured. They meet a guy obsessed with aliens. Eventually he lets them go. Whole thing could be cut without affecting the main story in the slightest.
Episode 7 had more point to it, as we spent it in Picard's head and learnt stuff about his past. And the series is called Picard, after all. If I had to cut this series down in length, I'd cut out half the cast to begin with. I'd probably have the only people travelling back in time be Picard, the Borg Queen and Rios. And I'd cut out the Soongs, so the main characters in 2024 would just be Dr Ramirez, Guinan and Renee Picard. Six main characters, three from each era, plus Q, whose story we should have more of. As it is, we've got twice that number, and I'm not interested in half of them. But I'm enjoying it more than season 1, which was too dark. The story's not bad, and the ending of episode 8 raises expectations for episodes 9 and 10. Which could be misplaced. The remaining two episodes appear to be about a small army of Borg attacking a space launch facility. I really hope they've been saving their budget for this, because it's been very, very low budget so far. Martin

{Spoiler}Yeah I dont get ep 8 at all. As you say the Picard plot appears not to go anywhere, The Rios and Seven plots could easily have been added on to last weeks episode.
I enjoyed it but it was all padding.
Likewise episodes 3 and 4 could most likely have been a single episode, probably on the longer side, but one episode.
It very much feel like they've stretched 6 episodes over 8.

Better this week, though slightly disappointed things weren't wrapped up as I was hoping for more Stargazing in the last episode.

Definitely an improvement! Things happened.
There was still some stuff which irked me, and nothing happened here that justified the previous six weeks of tedium, but it was reasonably watchable.
Interesting episode in the context of the same week’s Moon Knight as well.

Yeah nothing wrong with the ending (well one thing). Series was definitely padded out by at least two episodes, but on the whole I like the cast enough that Im okay with that. Spoiler Rios staying in the past seems like a good way to screw the time line again, but Im sure it was always meant to happen that way so its okay.
But worse it screws with my hopes of a Stargazer series.
Or it did, but then Seven got promoted to Captain and I was like yeah okay that could be good. Then I realised Hologram Rios was still and Stargazer the series got better than ever.

I'm halfway through season 2, and it's irritating me how often Picard recalls events from TOS, but not events he's lived through personally. The easiest way to get Guinan to trust him is to remind her they met in the 1800s.
It's also irritating me that Seven's personality and experience is being almost completely ignored. Picard is not the only one here who has Q experience. In fact, Q's behavior is contradictory to how she knew him, which may clue her in that something is very wrong with him, because he never did anything openly malicious when she knew him. Plus Agnis isn't the only scientist. In turning Seven into an action hero, they forgot she's the smartest person there, next to the Borg Queen. And, we're in 2024 LA. No offhand mention of the upcoming Bell Riots?

There are some references in background signage when Seven and Raffi are on walkabout.
Agree with you re: Seven.
Such a badly written show. I'm glad it's being put out of its misery just 3 seasons in.

It did give us an irish romulan woman, which is arguably the greatest combination of things in a character, to ever have been created. So there's at least that.

Its odd because I keep thinking of season 3 like a reaction to the flaws in seasons 2, but it was filmed alongside season 2 so isnt that. Now Im wondering if the essentially filler episodes of S2 were there so their budget could be used in season 3. Lower Decks spoilers It seems an AI like Moriarty would be housed in the same facility that Jeffery Combs and Peanut Hamper have been sent to. And since It looks like Peanut Hamper is going to lead some kind of revolt/prison break at some point in LDS that would create an oppurtunity for Moriarty to free himself.
