The last one wasn't quite right, it has to be said, so if this one is as Sunbow as Prime 3.0 then it might actually look better, but why all of a sudden are these figures twice the price they should be?
And what are the implications that 44 and 45 are redos of older figures? Where does that leave names like Jazz and Mirage? I had assumed the Prime was a one off. I can't see them redoing the whole line, not after so many have had Anime version re-releases, but it seems there are more to come. I'd put money on a new seeker mould now.

This new trend is going to only encourage people to go to 3P, instead of buying official product.
Not only is Takara starting to retread ground they've already done (three optimi, two hotrods, two starscreams, two megatrons, two bumblebees) instead of new characters they haven't done yet (Jazz, anyone?), they've now doubled the price of the last two (counting this one).
I honestly think dinobot and megatron are part of this extreme price hike. But we just don't have a previous frame of reference, like we do Op3 and BB2.

Why just on Monday I took Bee off the shelf,
Had a play and said to myself,
This lil' guy is fun to transform,
Something with Masterpiece that breaks the norm,
He may seem small against his bot friends,
But this is indeed a worrying of trends,
Unless it's super special it'll be a pass,
Because TakTom are making this line a farce!
We just want new characters to fit with the old,
To make this known we must be bold,
Talk with your wallet and let them know,
That this is not the way to go.

Even blurry that looks better than the last one. I didn't think that one looked particularly toy or toon, it was a bit of a mess.
But around £90? That's a lot for such a small toy. Big 'ol fake chest too, but then that was inevitable to get the look right.

That they'd have to go full Sunbow SD to be in with a shout,
And now they've done it, it looks pretty spot on,
But that alt mode clashes with other realistic MPs, oh c'mon.

Well that’s... awful.
I mean, I can see what they’re going for. But I hate the whole fake-car-roof-as-chest thing - that’s not a “masterpiece” of engineering, it’s a lazy cop-out. In the pursuit of a cartoon-accurate silhouette the robot mode is a mess of folded parts and panels and things - there’s nothing “masterpiece” about this, more like a “best compromise”. And the face sculpt is hideous.
On the plus side, I actually like the deformed vehicle mode. But that’s only because the original toy has forever warped my perception of what a VW Beetle should look like anyway.
But that’s not enough to save it. It’s... yeah. Awful.
Although I am interested to see what MP-45+ will look like...

I think it's proof of what we've said here many times: it isn't possible to do those super deformed cars with a decent robot mode as well. There are too many factors to try and fit together. He looks great from the front though.

They should have made these new Masterpieces (Sunstreaker, Bumblebee v2 etc) as a gimmick line called Cartoon-Masters instead and continued to make the detailed ones as Masterpiece toys. But each to their own.
The big shame to me is, that the Beetle mode is lovely and that roof would have made such a nice chest for the robot mode.

Could be wortb sticking around to see if they make a decent Cliffjumper out of it. Because MP Cliffjumper probably would be very strange without a SD alt mode.

For me the main problems with the robot mode on the first MP Bumblebee only happened because they insisted on opting for the longer real VW Beetle. It left them with a bonnet too long to make decent sized feet from and a hood that suited Goldbug amazingly and Bumblebee not at all. Effectively they have gone from MP Bee based on license vehicle mode to MP Bee based on cartoon model and completely skipped MP based on the sodding toy. This thing looks like somebody has seriously over thought it while totally not understanding the aim. |

Having said that its not much worse than the first one and the vehicle mode and carefully positioned robot mode views look pretty good. For a low enough price I might get it or the inevitable Cliffjumper, possible Hubcab and outside Bumblejumper.

I just wonder why it's suddenly so damn hard for them to produce a decent looking G1 Bee head. Are they too used to doing nothing but BayBee (and baybee knockoffs like TFP Bee)?
I mean, they haven't done a decent G1 head since Classics 12 years ago. The first MP was derpy, this one is even derpier, and even TR Legend Bee's head was pretty derpy (though more forgivable than on two self proclaimed Masterpieces!)
