I keep telling myself I don't want an Allicon. And they I see it and it's so doofy and...
I'm gonna let it be an impulse if I see it in a shop buy, I think.

This has now gone to "currently unavailable", although I managed to get an order in myself. Hope it comes good…

I suspect we'll feel it's effects in the next four Odyssey sets if they're already preset. Although it's weird Ratchet has been rumoured for ages and the Paradron two pack for a while, but nothing else from that line.

I wasn't around for the POTP line but was its ending as weird as Earthrise? It does feel like the main line barely exists. Kind of like takaratomy mall were it is mainly exclusives

Pottop didn't have anywhere near the number of exclusives we have now. Barely any in comparison. There seemed to be a reversal there after the indication was that the big Titans Return exclusive sets were cut short. Pottop was such a mishmash of ideas it never really felt like it got started, let alone ended. It was really an encore for Combiner Wars in the mid sizes, a poor attempt at Pretenders in the diddy ones and the leaders tried out the evolution idea that never went anywhere.

I didn't mind the Orion pax figure and the idea with Rodimus was decent, just not the execution. The moustache on Rodimus Unicronus though.. Shocking. Such a shame the pretenders couldn't have been remakes of the originals. Maybe it should have all been simplified to Combiners, Headmasters, and Target/Powermasters for blinkered G1 fans like me.

And the Legends mostly just continued on doing what they did in TR... But just barely. Two molds continued, the rest just went and did their own thing but pretended they could "seat" 'masters. Two combined, two were "part" of combiner teams but couldn't combine, while as mentioned, two retained their full TR interactivity.
Every PotP pricepoint did it's own thing, almost completely independent of each other, and that's exactly why it's as close to a failure as it gets.
I'm almost surprised that both the deluxes and voyagers shared the CW gimmick.

The shift to exclusives has been quite mad though. Pottop had The throne and Nemesis leaders, Wreck Gar in Walgreens, the Blast Off/Repugnus/Counterpunch trio and the first two Selects figures. This year the ENTIRE UNIVERSE has been an exclusive and we've got several entire lines being made out of them, Netflix, Selects, Odyssey... what changed? Is this really about the shift from bricks & mortar to online?

It seemed like this was happening and planned to happen before Covid. The pandemic has made it worse but shopping is shifting more and more to online.

Inevitably, the demise of TRU gets brought up in this conversation, but I'm not sure at this point what difference that makes in 2020. I can see the Netflix line would have been TRU, and it does look like Walmart have expanded in terms of Transformers to fill the gap left by them, also I think it's clear now that Hasbro taking back Funpub's license was as much to reclaim the revenue the TFCC and Botcon toys were making by bringing in Selects as it was to do their own cons.
Despite all that though, the rise in exclusives has been mad. It could be an experimental business model - we've seen Hasbro try several different ways in recent years to make money from repaints and remoulds, this model of keeping entirely new moulds in retail and pushing all the repaints and remoulds into exclusives is possibly just another way if trying to manage that. They have to use repaints to keep costs down - in CW we moaned that all the retail Deluxes were based off about nine moulds. Earthrise has had eight moulds in the first two waves alone. It just also seems to be a model that suits online purchasing.

I get the fake wheels are there on the robot to make it look like the original, but I can't decide if it's a nice idea or just spoils the proportions of the figure.
