Also I didn't crap on anyone's hopes or wishlists. Why is it always whenever I say I want accurate dinobots, it's a chorus of "hell no." You got your 80s dated remakes last year. Updated dinobots doesn't make those not exist.

Nobody said anything of the sort. Everyone has made points about their robot modes.
Nobody has crapped on your point of view so kindly refrain from the passive aggressive nonsense.

Indeed. If anything, Toph, I share your frustrations - I would *love* to see updates to the Dinobots featuring dino-modes that better reflect how we now understand them to have looked, but I also know that Hasbro are so obsessed with G1 fidelity that we're not likely to get that. (Although we *did* get a Slash in PottoP, so maybe their resolve is weakening...) So anything I said in response was an expression of that frustration.

I must admit, although I keep saying I'm not buying many new toys anymore, correctly sized Dinobots are a bit of an gaping hole. But I'd want them G1y. But...but...we just had them. They already exist. Some of them are literally on sale right now in Home Bargains. -Ralph My dear Doctor, you know perfectly well what I mean and why I find the PotP Dinos unacceptable.

I appologize for my overreacting. Sincerely. Bad stuff's currently happening, was in the middle of my third anxiety attack in 12 hours, and my accurate dinobots daydreaming was literally one of the few "happy thoughts" that was keeping me relatively stable.
I genuinely am fixated on this.

No worries.
I've only ever had what I could describe as one full blown panic/anxiety attack in my life and it was horrendous. To be honest, I don't know why one of 3P companies hasn't at least tested the waters now with one of them at this stage.

To be honest, I don't know why one of 3P companies hasn't at least tested the waters now with one of them at this stage. Fans Project made an attempt. Not great, but like... At least they took a look at what dinosaurs looked like. Two companies went with toy-based designs, while Projext X went with the FoC games, but unlike tge game designers, also bothered to actually look at a dinosaur. They made an attempt to fix the game designs, but those things can only be doctored so much.

It genuinely amazes me how little attention the Dinobots have got in the main line over the years. A Cast Iron Popular Group. Sure, Grimlock's had a couple of figures here and there, but no DINOBOTS, only the tiny combiner ones in PofP. Surely they're popular enough to a couple of versions? G1y in Generations, more scientifically accurate in Authentics or something.
Hope you feel better, CJ.

I genuinely am fixated on this. Hope you're feeling better now. Thinking a bit more about some of your original ideas... Specific hopes: -Commander Sludge -Leader Grimlock, head taller than voyagers. Three new struthiomimus battlemasters to pack it out, each one with a different weapon mode. Given that the current WFC thinking towards Leaders is basically just adding bits to Voyagers to make them a bit bigger, usually in the form of armour, I wonder how that thinking could apply to Grimlock? Could he have a scientifically accurate "small" robot mode, with armour pieces that then add on to the alt-mode to turn him from a T-Rex into a more G1-esque Grimlock as his "super mode", bulking out the alt-mode rather than the robot mode for a change, and keeping everyone happy. With those extra pieces then being shields or something that he can wield in robot mode. Or would that thinking make more sense for Sludge? Have the robot turn into a slightly stumpy, PottoP-like alt-mode, and then use the extra pieces to give his alt-mode more accurate longer legs, neck, etc? Just trying to see how this could work with Hasbro's current thinking. The idea for having smaller packs of bots to bulk out the sets is a great one, but the current parts that bulk out the set are simple, solid peices that plug in, so smaller bots might too expensive, so maybe using armour to enhace the dino-modes is the way forwards? That said, I was thinking of that because I was going to say that you'd have to do Sludge as a smaller-than-Leader class toy somehow to fit in with Hasbro's current thinking with regards to which characters go into which price-points, but then we've just had Leader Astrotrain and not a single Leader Megatron yet, so who knows - maybe a Commander Sludge isn't all that unlikely after all...

Post by Toph on Jan 19, 2020 12:48:57 GMT
The idea with Sludge is basically he'd be an oldschool leader sized robot, with the extra mass of the commander class going into his articulated neck and tail, and give him the appropriate diplodocid shape and size.
For Grimlock, thought that a few ornithomimid battlemasters would flesh it out nicely as something new and unique, and a nice little nod to Jurassic Park

Time to review! How did we do? We had a global pandemic is how we did. No one predicted that waves two and three of Earthrise wouldn't hit until late late fall, with waves four and possibly five getting canned. We didn't predict half the line we did get would be exclusives. However: Hopes: Some love being thrown to non-g1 more significant than repaints like Gen Select Hotshot. And I don't mean just a single nifty one off like the as of yet announced Armada Prime. My hope is that Hasbro remembers that Generations is a pan-generational line. Not exclusively dedicated to G1 Redux/G1 Sunbow. Predictions: Needlenose will turn up in the next fan poll. A new Quake will happen. Voyager Rodimus Prime will be a thing. Their commitment to Earth and "earth modes" will be as dubious as their commitment to the MTMTE pilot and "cybertronian modes" was in Siege. Resolutions: I make not these. Never have, never will. My hopes and a some of my predictions came true for 2021! I was wrong about the "not sticking to earth modes," because holy frak they laser-focused on that. With the BWII Seacons, "G2" Megatron, G2 Sandstorm, several diaclones, and Super Megatron, and the sizable return of BEAST WARS, they did remember that there are fans who enjoy more areas of this franchise than just what happened in sunbow between 1984-1986. If rumors are to ve believed, i was partially right about Rodimus, though got the class wrong. Was wrong about Needlenose and Quake.

Hopesbetter UK distribution. Prediction worse UK distribution thanks to Brexit with the specialists repeatedly getting shorted by Hasbro UK an exclusives being even harder to get. Got that second one right, especially the last bit! Toy PredictionsAt least one more Rampmaster, possibly with side connectors. Buzzsaw & Frenzy MMs Trailbreaker from Hoist Sunstreaker from Wheeljack Tracks from Wheeljack Runabout from Runamok - who may in turn be from Cliffjumper Greasepit from Ironworks the other two Micromaster stations, Hot House & Airwave, as Modulators, 1 per wave SOMETHINGS from Starscream..... but not sure I see them going Thundercacker/Skywarp two lines on the bounce.... Earth Mode Soundwave, see above, or maybe Earth Mode Blaster. Can't see it being Starscream, Thundercracker, Skywarp AND Soundwave again. Snapdragon Inferno from Grapple Not sure about the leaders, assume they'll have base modes like Op and Astrotrain. Rumour mill says Commander Sky Lynx and I've heard Rodimus in some form suggested repeatedly. LOADS more Exclusives Sureshot and Pointblank in Selects. Needlenose & Quake somewhere Blimey, that's blindingly accurate. I'm going to need to check the Earthrise thread to see what I knew then! The Buzzsaw is a misfire, Rodimus and Tracks are rumoured to be coming. Got the Targetmasters wrong. RESOLUTIONSTo get the last Micromaster Combiner Transport I need - carried over from 2017 & 2018, but got one in 2019 To finish my Minibots (probably involving TFC 12) - carried over from 2017 & 2018 To get one of the orginal Dinobots that I'm missing To get an original Headmaster, preferably one of Apeface/Snapdragon No, No - but I've taken action to sort that this week, No and No. But my older toy buying has shot up this year, especially since we've been doing 92 & 93 in the poll.

I'm almost positive Netflix Soundwave and Bumblebee were intended for Earthrise. Less certain about Target Thrust.
I'd not be surprised if some Amazon Galactic Odyssey were "repackaged."
Also wouldn't be surprised if some of the G1 content from Kingdom was intended for ER.

I think the Earthrise exclusives were pretty much as planned Been mulling Earthrise w4 over for a few weeks. We know Siege w5 is an add on. Pre release numbers for Siege, the WFC, the product numbers EVERYTHING suggests so. We very much suspect Earthrise w4 was cancelled Several of the Netflix w2 toys stick out like sore thumbs. I think the same thing explains all three but can't figure out the WHY. ALMOST EVERYTHING Siege w5 is a pull forward from Earthrise. ALMOST. I think Crosshairs was probably intended as a Select or a back up new head design, use as needed (See Universe 2 Hardhead, CW Hoist etc) Spinister is the deluxe design pulled forward as it was ready to go, having been in planning since the WFC poll and the least Earthlike of the Earthrise Deluxes. Rumble & Ratbat bulk up an Earthrise Micromaster wave somewhere as do Earthmode Ravage & Laserbeak - I'm nearly certain comparing Siege w1 Battlemasters & Micromasters, Earthrise w1 Battlemasters & Micromasters and Kingdom Cores that both Earthrise Micromasters and Battlemasters lost a toy from their wave 1s at some point, before we started numbering up. We remarked at the time that 2 new toys in each wave looked odd for a first wave and indeed both sizes look undermanned for the year. Apeface (and Snapdragon) I suspect have been ready to go for a while and looking for a home and Astrotrain is pulled forward cos he's only planned to be in one Earthrise wave. So Earthrise w4 was, I believe DeluxeRunabout
Bumblebee
Elita 1
Spinister VoyagerSoundwave Earthmode
Apeface Now we can see whenabouts the change happened from the Siege leaks and rumours and that would be bang on the 18 month lead time on ER w4. I need a look at the product codes but it's late here and I have to be up in the morning.

Still, on the plus side my main hope is that nothing too exciting is revealed and released this year, 'cos I'm going to be having additional expenses come the middle of the year. So a quiet couple of years collecting wise is going to be good for me. That's actually pretty much true, for me, anyway. A couple of things appeared, like Netflix Bumblebee, but in general I've been able to keep my purchases well below last years levels. Which has been good. Although part of that is also down to all the good stuff from Cyberverse not actually appearing for sale in this country, so you know... Although there is Scorponok... so my hope is that he's delayed as much as Omega Supreme was. That hope was dashed. Although given I didn't end up being able to go to any conventions this year it was a lot easier to absorb that expense...

If Elita-1 stays in Netflix, then she sticks out like a sore thumb as the only remoulded toy. Take her out too and Netflix deluxe then becomes 3 waves of 12 repaint toys and is probably an even 3 waves of 4 per case. I think the 1 per case in w1 & 2 is caused by some reshuffling to find space for the two remoulds.

Interesting theory, Phil. I think you're right about Siege 5, the product codes show that really. All the figures were either given new Siege product numbers if they were going to reappear with different ones in Earthrise, and the ones that didn't, notably Spinister and Crosshairs, weren't assigned numbers until after the ER Wave 3 Deluxes were, suggesting they were backups/unused designs brought into production very quickly. I'd say that rather than being intended for a fourth ER wave because it seems unlikely to me that they could come forward in production by a whole year just because they needed to.
Apeface I'm not sure was intended for a fourth wave because his product code puts him in there before Grapple and the last Voyagers to get numbered, Snapdragon & Megatron came a while after that. My guess would be that as everything else in that initial block of numbers around the E7100s ran as numbered (bar Fasttrack, and we can guess why he swapped with Smokescreen), that the Voyager waves were Starscream/Apeface, Grapple/Judge, Snapdragon/Megatron. Then if there was originally a fourth wave, which I'm dubious about, it would have had either or both of Soundwave and Inferno.
Things are certainly very messy this year, but I reckon Warden saw WfC as a whole and that the Siege/Earthrise/Kingdom banners are just marketing titles to keep things fresh looking on the shelves. The line itself is an ongoing three year project where everything just merges together. Maybe covid has blurred things, maybe Kingdom was definitely supposed to be Beast Wars only.
Now we know that the new design team/manager began work early during Kingdom and not neatly at the end of it, it'll be interesting to see whether there's a definite cut off from Kingdom to the next line.

Yes, as I said I needed to look at the numbers and now I have - you commented as I was typing - a MUCH clearer picture emerges. I suspect work was done on all SIX of the original poll candidates well in advance, hence Spinister's appearance in Earthrise.
