Went to see Toyah do a two hour acoustic set peppered with personal anecdotes last night. Small 200 capacity venue. Think it was a warm up for a bigger tour in the spring. Excellent night, intimate atmosphere and some very funny stories.
1. Steel Panther - Wayward Sons: Panther good, Wayward Sons dull as dishwater, crowd terrible. I don't think I was in the best place mentally to get the most out of this, but the crowd really didn't help.
Goo Goo Dolls - No transformers soundtrack song. Boo! Otherwise a good show.
Back to the Future: The Musical - Really really good. For my taste the music could have been a bit more of the eras of the film. A couple of the 50s set numbers have a proper 50s sound to them, or at least Grease doing the 50s sound. The rest are okay. The 80s songs though sounded a bit generic to me. All the BTTF music you expect is there though.
On a technical level its kind of amazing. Scene changes look fantastic and the delorean does exactly what you'd hope but wouldnt expect because how would they pull it off on a stage.
Cast is brilliant. Marty Mcfly sounds eerily like Fox. George and Lorraine are perfect. Doc Brown is different but not so much that it doesnt feel like him.
In the absense of live things to go to (I think I was supposed to be seeing Paul Heaton tonight now that I think about it) Ive found myself with the urge to listen to a lot more live albums and bootlegs. Its not the same but it passes some time.
I just found a recording from an Elton Johns 2003 solo show. Its the same week as the one I saw. I'd like to say its bringing back good memories, but lots of other stuff was happening around the time and I dont have much memory of the show, beyond it being a really good it and it being one of the rare sunny ones at the KC. Still nice to listen to it.
There are always a couple of big open air events at the stately home up the road in August, a last night of the proms one and a high profile cover band. The bring a picnic sort of thing that draws in a few thousand. I was really surprised to read they're both still on this year, in about a fortnight. Apparently open air events are now allowed again?!
