OH MY GOD I NEVER WANT TO TRANSFORM MEGATRON EVER AGAIN

The sculpting on Megatron is gorgeous. But some weird choices:
-His white claws are a seperate piece of white plastic that makes up the bottom of his feet (and some joints and hinges that are pretty well hidden). Seems overly complicated where the foot could be a solid piece and paint the claws black.
-His white teeth are sculpted and painted, while the painted roof of his mouth is a seperate piece (just makes me think they could have cut a paint app here by making his teeth part of the palette, and cast in white if they're gonna paint the palette anyway.
-Hasbro went out of their way in Earthrise to give weird expressions to characters who aren't known for them (Skywarp and Dirge's eternal silent screaming haunt me to this day. Who hurt them?) But Megatron here is one of the most expressive characters in the franchise. A grimace, or sinister grin would be great for him, but he gets a blank frown.
He's fairly top heavy, and the hips on mine are fairly loose, but not terribly so. I think he's not a mini-masterpiece in the sense that he's got something a bit different going in. Where as Blackarachnia makes me feel like I basically got the same toy, only a hundred bucks cheaper, I don't feel like I rebought the same toys just cheaper. The difference feels more like Studio Series Bumblebee Optimus Prime compared to MP Optimus 3.0. So they both kinda scratch different itches.
He's a gorgeous figure. Nightmare of a transformation.

I look forward to taking those top two points off, putting some guns on instead and having someone ride on his back!

The sculpting on Megatron is gorgeous. Forgot to mention (had a lot going on yesterday, and not even sure i fully appreciated this when I wrote that), dude is massively heavy. Like oldschool leader heavy. Cybertron leader heavy. Also, his beast mode parts are, or are covered in a layer of soft rubbery plastic. This gives him a really interesting texture and feel, and puts into context and validates the rumor that Primal (and probably cheetor) was to be flocked. Pretty sure his legs, shoulders, and beast head are solid chunks of this stuff (and I do mean solid. They're every bit as sturdy as the hard plastic that we're used to). The panels that make up the rest of his beast mode that stow on his back are hard plastic, but have a layer of this stuff applied. Unlike Siege and ER leaders, he properly feels like a leader class. He's not as big as our default mindsets (I still think of TR/PotP as my default leader size), but he has a ton of moving parts, he is heavier than any leader we've had in a while, and he's still huge. But man he sucks to transform.

Thanks Big Phil.
He... Looks nice. And it's not a bad scale. Bit big for my personal mind's eye, but ok.
But it's happening again... IT'S HAPPENING AGAIN!!! Starting again with a set from scratch!
I can't... I just can't do it. I'm sticking with my 3P.
THE FIVE ARE COMPLETE! THE SIX ARE COMPLETE!

Meanwhile, Cyclonus is... Weird. This doesn't feel like anything else we've had recently to me. It's denser, heavier, more complex. It's a really solid, stiff robot. More than any other generations figure, I could feel the original inside this while transforming it. The face sculpt is much better in hand than photos make it look too. If this is the SS86 style then it does feel different.

Phil's experiments with light piping last night led me to check this today: If his purple was a shade more toy, he'd be perfect. I wonder if at some point they'll do that. The repaint options on him are pretty limited.

His repaint options are only limited because Hasbro limits themselves. Cyclonus is actually kind of a chameleon, with clever choices. If it's the wrong choice, it ends up looking like Cyclonus in cosplay, though. Like TR Blurr.

On that note, it could be my lack of imagination, but repaint/slight remold options on some of these Kingdom figures seems limited. I am thinking here of Cyclonus, but not only. Since Siege/Earthrise we seem to have again been getting more molds that are not retooled (or did I miss something?) Combiner Wars was the king of retools. Titan Returns and POTP kind of dragged this out, although the three POTP leaders were really only good for evil repaints with Nemesis and Star Convoy being the stand outs..
But it seems that Siege onwards has given us plenty of original molds that do not have immediate retool potential.
Some examples:
Titans Astrotrain was also Titans orange Prime and Alpha Trion and Leo Prime.
Titans Blitzwing was also Titans Megatron.
Titans Octane was also Titans G2 Laser Prime
But...
I cannot imagine retooling Siege Astrotrain as anybody else. Or Earthrise Doubledealer. And the new Kingdom Cyclonus is another one that is unretoolable.
Not complaining, but just a curious observation...

It also worth remembering that certain moulds - Siege Sideswipe, Siege & Earthrise Datsuns, Siege Ironhide & descendents, Siege & Earthrise jets, Siege Ultra Magnus, Earthrise Op - have done more than their fair share of the heavy lifting on the repaint/remould/reuse front making the one use toys more possible.

While it's possible, I don't think the JP colored Megatron repaint is a tie in. I think it's just in those colors. Also, there's no way Blackarachnia can retool into Tarantulas. Simular engineering, sure. But otherwise he'll need to be an entirely new mold, with maybe some minor parts reuse. But even that would be very minor and limited. I cannot imagine retooling Siege Astrotrain as anybody else. Or Earthrise Doubledealer. And the new Kingdom Cyclonus is another one that is unretoolable. Not complaining, but just a curious observation... Phil went over a list of the obvious stuff. But if they wanted to veer away from their "show only" mandate for the BWs, they're open to a lot more variety. Years ago I had a list for using (universe) Cyclonus as a base, but no longer remember it. (I think he was my primary choice for prebeast Terrorsaur until Generations Armadascream came around) Airazor could be the base for a decent Nyx: tfwiki.net/wiki/NyxDinobot retool gets Hardhead, Dinotron, and Thrustor And if they did a Jurassic World crossover (blegh), Dinobot also gets an Indoraptor (ihateitihateitihateitihateitletsnotwillthisintoexistance*) An optimus primal retool can get B'Boom/Apache. A different (more minor) retool gets a Sasquatch/Yeti. Blackarachnia gets Crystal Widow and Arcee I have a list that I've been compiling of potential repaints and remolds of the entire "wfc" "trilogy" (I pick at it when I'm bored. Pretty impressive for a Legend. Not quite 3P Legend standard, but a fraction of the price. Hasbro are definitely upping their game with these. I'm not convinced the Bumblebee is intended to be the same class though. His style and detailing are very different.

Any scale enthusiasts wish they'd have done most of the Beast wars characters as these legends instead? I'd quite like a Cheetor and Primal in this scale.
