I feel better than yesterday. Have been unwell for a few days with a mild throat infection. Dentist tomorrow!

Parents of two children from my daughter's class have tested positive for the virus now, feels like only a matter of time At least the language school where I'm having my intensive course has managed to arrange for the second week to be done remotely. I wouldn't have gone anyway as I don't want to be an attack vector, especially with an 85 year old man in my class! Won't be quite the same without the in-person interaction though. Homebound daughter is making the most of it by getting out my old Gameboy Advance SP, and has got very into Zelda: The Minish Cap.

All OU face to face events shut down so booked on an online alternative tomorrow evening. The bigger worry is the MMU library shutting down: I don't have a desk at home to work at (sitting on bed/couch not good for my health issue) and I have an essay due soon. Contingency plan is for partner to nip to IKEA on Friday to get a swivvley chair and a work bench if the MMU library shuts down.

In a fit of rebellion we decamped to the pub at 5:15 for a few pints. Just got home a few minutes ago. Going into the office as usual tomorrow morning, but for how long I cannot say.

PS But my good deed for the day was to put a note through the doors of two retired neighbours offering help with shopping in coming weeks.

Today I have mostly been panic-buying a new pair of slippers, as my old ones are past it, a new electric razor, as my old one is on its last legs, and a litre of Sainsbury's Taste the Difference Irish Cream Liqueur (essentially Bailey's but £12.50 rather than £20).

I will be at work as normal tomorrow and for the forseeable future. I cannot envisage my employers possibly letting home working happen. It's also a tad impossible for most of what we do, to be fair
Ordered a table and chair from the local Argos for my partner to pick up tomorrow so if/when the MMU library closes I can cobble together a makeshift workspace at home for OU essays. Topped up the electric meter. Other than that not much more I can do. All non-essential spending put on hold. If I do get told to stay at home and go on SSP I lose three quarters of my income. I have enough reserves to pay the rent for 2, maybe 3 months if I stretch things. Beyond that I will be in eviction scenario if not able to work, but we'll just have to see how things pan out. Had been looking for another job but that is now off the table for now, obviously.
I expect the trams will be quiet tomorrow.

Everything still as normal at my place. One minute I think closure is inevitable, next I can't see us shutting up shop until Easter. The not knowing is frustrating. Spent a lot of time doing things in the last few days that if we close soon I won't have needed to do.

In to work tomorrow although we have been promised an update from The Top at some point tomorrow. Which might have come today if Johnson had just got on with it instead off waiting until after 5pm to make his latest announcement. Earlier would have given business time to activate contingency plans. Now we all have to go in for another day of 'unnecessary' travel.
Most of us in the office today spent a portion of our time configuring our computers for remote desktopping to enable work from home. Thus far nobody has been able to log in from home this evening...

Watching the news it seems the gov are intent on schools staying open until the Easter holidays. That's three weeks away!

Certainly one way for the government to find out if children are disproportionately carriers of the virus or not.

In a fit of rebellion we decamped to the pub at 5:15 for a few pints. I ate out tonight, as planned, with my friend Esther and her husband Stuart. We were virtually the only people in the restaurant. It was eerily quite out there, literally and in terms of people out & about and on public transport Got quite emotional at times when I talked about the need to get home. We're talking to the builders to see if it's possible for us to get back in. The plan is when we have a YES, Liz will come and get me to avoid a potentially difficult train journey. Dealing with the house on top of this stuff...... hard. I'm used to not going out, that bit'll be easy, but not being able to go home..... difficult. And when we get home there's all sorts of other issues. Has the new radiator been plugged in or is the system sitting there, sans 1 radiator, drained. Where's the phone socket, and thus the socket for the internet? Is there a plug within reach? Getting BT out to sort might be difficult in the near future.....

BTW.....
There is a bonus robot point on offer for the first person to spot the significance of something I've done today.
If nobody does, I'll tell you all on Sunday.

Roads seemed just as busy this morning. Tram has the usual amount of folk. A lot of folk still going to work (probably because a lot of workplaces will be figuring out what to do today, I imagine).

Something to do with Esther and Stuart? Or that particular restaurant? Or the date? Did he manage to not burn it down? I am hurt by that accusation, only one Restaurant I've ever been has ever had a fire and they reopened the same location. The dining room at one of Royal Holloway's halls in late 1991 doesn't count either, I was on a different site!

I've been meaning to post this for a while. The Evening Standard ran a feature on modern apprenticeships last month, with a surprising option. Could this be a solution to avoid coronavirus? I'm working from home for the foreseeable future. I do a bit of f2f training, though it should be easy to switch to online delivery. It may even improve attendance rates, given that they've been a bit poor lately.

Working from home tomorrow. Some minor chaos as the university finally gave notice to close all research and experiments etc down with less than five hours notice. Not really their fault as we have been waiting for clarity from government.
We have been told to expect to be away from the office for up to three months. An odd feeling to think Mini-M may be here before then!
Our offices our being deep cleaned later this week and swipe card access to campus terminated for the duration.

House: the steel in the ceiling is going in TODAY. Plasterer tomorrow Plumber is self isolating. May have been a cock up with building inspectors which might lead to another downing of tools. Even if there isn't..... end of next week. I cried. I just want to go home. It doesn't help that I haven't felt too good today. I keep getting hot flushes which are worrying me. It might be because I'm stressed to ****.... or it might not. I'd hoped I'd done my last shop here, now need to think about stretching things out
