Today I have been mostly panic-buying stamps. Nothing to do with the virus, they go up in price on Monday. Martin Cheers for the reminder. I shall stock up too, especially as I need them for work. -Ralph

It's just occured to me that less than a month ago this Government said people like me were unskilled. Now that same Government has me classed as a key worker.

I also panic-bought a large flame-grilled double Whopper meal from my local Burger King at lunchtime. I took it home, though back then (seven hours ago) you could actually sit down and eat in if you wanted to.

You hope th experience will change attitudes in government. But you suspect that when this is done it'll be straight back to business as usual as soon as possible.

I've had a lot of very very odd neuro stuff going on for the last couple of week, not helped by my hayfever symptoms kicking in a week ago.
I've had two nasty falls that have hurt the muscles in my chest - which is not the sort of odd pains you want at the moment! - I've been sitting awkwardly a lot, looking down at screens when I should be facing ahead, which seems to be having a cumulative effect on my neck muscles, especially round the front
I'm also finding the environment at Mum's uncomfortably warm now as it gets warmer outside.

Wrote half an OU essay before brain froze so calling it quits for the day. I genuinely don't understand philosophy theories of the mind at this stage (online tutorial the other day did have the chap leading it agreeing it is VERY HARD) and I know what I am writing isn't properly thought through or answering the question as I have learned how to do this *type* of essay but I just want to submit something and move on. Hopefully, inspiration strikes tomorrow morning and I can at least get a submittable draft done and sent it and can then forget about it. My scores have been good so far so if I have one duffer I'll live.
Still scunnered with the cold, which is knocking me for six. Very slight tight chest and occassional tickly cough. Would not usually think twice of it but paranoia kicking in.
Last shop visit for a while. Got all we need in the flat so no need really. I can't help mixing as I have to go to work but otherwise the time has come to keep it to a minimum. Started opening boxed Transformers last night. Siege Brunt is really good.

I know what you mean about the paranoia
Hot Flush symptoms have been persisting. I've also got pains in my face muscles - the two may or may not be related and may or may not be the CMT doing something odd cos I'm under stress: never have a neuro musular condition!
The hayfever is more blocked up today but, and excuse TMI, my IBS has kicked in again. I'm pretty sure the tummy wasn't happy with Weds' Tea and stress again has alas combined .....
We have a date booked now to bring me home but obviously that isn't happening if I'm not well. I'm hoping I've not picked up something nasty, please pray against that, because I would count as vulnerable. And that's a tinsy bit scary.
It's four weeks I've been here tomorrow, three and a bit since I last saw Liz and Jonathan. Missing them dreadfully.

It's the little things about the lockdown that are going to get to me... like opening a supermarket-bought Pizza Express pizza to put in the oven and finding a money-off voucher inside for a third off the cost of food bought in a Pizza Express restaurant so long as I eat there before 31 May. Today I panic-avoided all shops and went for a walk around my local nature reserve. Saw a pair of dog walkers, no-one else. Martin

Those sorts of things are odd now. I had a 'we value your feedback, how was your trip to Sainsbury's on friday?' email this afternoon. Well, five out of five for putting a brave face on it, zero out of five for the pillocks stripping the shelves of everything.
I'm not sure that's what automated emails like that are looking for.
Also the vouchers I got for bonus nectar points if I buy pasta.

Three weeks.... oh gosh hang in their, Big Phil, you'll see them soon and the building work will be well worth it. Doing away from home & them, and chaos bug isn't good. Not sure how much that's contributing to what my body is doing but it's not helping things. I would LOVE to talk to a neurologist about the symptoms I'm feeling but suspect that's some way in the future. SOMETHING feels like it's wrong with me, and TBH I've not been quite right for about a fortnight when I felt odd in church one morning, I came home that afternoon and had the "stroke face" symptoms then which have continued and developed into hot flushes and pain. I don't think it's the Chaos Bug as I have none of the major symptoms - no cough, not much of a sore throat, just something from the hay fever and no breathing difficulty I'm aware of - but I wonder if I've picked something up along the way.......

To be honest, I grow increasingly angry that as I am now a key worker I'm expected to still turn up with no protection or plan and be stuck in rooms with not well people at a time we're supposed to avoid gatherings! Nothing I can do about it though if I want to stay employed. If NHS stuff aren't getting protection, lowly social care workers like me don't have a chance.

Supermarket shopping has got weird here - they only let about 15 people in at a time at each of the supermarkets in walking distance of where I live, and you get these long queues outside of people spaced 3m apart (they've put markings on the ground to help with this).
I managed to get a pack of toilet paper (it was getting close!), and felt super-self-conscious walking down the road with it. People were looking at me and then hurrying their pace toward the supermarket! Many shelves stripped bare, but clearly restocks are happening and I expect it to improve when people have adjusted to the new normal.
Also the main local store I use has completely changed staff. It's been the same people there for years, and suddenly this week it's unfamiliar faces. Daughter suggested that maybe one of the usuals got symptoms and they're all self-isolating now. She's probably right, and it's a bit scary.
Expecting the lockdown to be announced tomorrow for Monday.

The self check outs force staff in to extremely close proximity to customers. They'd be happier on standard tills as they provide a little more distance, though also means being in pemenant contact with customers. Personally I think I'd be asking customers to take a step or two back, but really thats not practical either. No masks, gloves or sanitiser being provided either, but as you say if the NHS can barely get protection..

There were people queuing 2 hOUrS! before stores opened today. And they werent spaced out. Limiting people in to the store seems like the direction that needs to be taken but I dont see the government taking the lead and its hard to believe that the supermarkets really want to potentially reduce their current sale figures and also if the lines stay the same people would literally be queuing for several hours. I think part of the problem here is that the virus basically hasnt hit. We're probably a couple of weeks behind many parts of the country (or massively untested) so it doesnt feel real yet, but we've got the same restrictions.

Self-checkouts are still very rare in Germany (or Berlin, at least), in fact most people still pay with cash and that's one of the things that has changed - people are being asked politely to favour cards, ideally with contactless, instead.
My local organic supermarket has provided staff with gloves and masks, and they've also added big clear screens to the checkouts to help protect them. They've always had a hand-sanitiser dispenser at the entrance, but people seem to be actually using it now!

It's interesting the panic buying problem is prevalent in Germany too, but not Italy. Toilet paper now rare in Germany and England, but the Italians looking at us thinking, "what *are* you doing?"

Having failed to find much in Sainsbury's Thur/Fri, I tried Waitrose in town this morning just after the OAP hour. That was more successful although it still isn't anywhere near normal, but they at least had a bit of veg in. They also put out a cage of toilet paper so for the next half hour walking around town absolutely *everyone* had a Waitrose essentials nine pack in one hand.
Costa was an experience too. Takeaway only, card only. I've been in there every Saturday since it opened unless I'm somewhere like TFN so I know the Saturday morning staff. They were really apologetic they couldn't even take my loyalty card to run it through the till.
