The tea making problems appear deeper than we first feared. It's easier working in Ambulance Control during a viral pandemic than it is talking to The Doctor about this. Only your Science Powers can help here, M!

They really are TREMENDOUSLY confusing. It's difficult getting water up the spout without it getting everywhere and when you try to pour it's hard to do it without all the water chugging out and spilling! -Ralph Hang on, aren't teapots kettles... so kettles tremendously confusing now??

Same thing as a kettle. -Ralph No Burns, NO! This is a kettle: You open the top to poor cold water in, you heat the water up and pour it out the spout. This is a Teapot: You take the lid off the teapot, place tea/tea bag(s) into it then pour hot water in and replace the lid allowing it to brew. The tea is then poured out through the spout, via a strainer if you're using leaf tea. And this is a Chocolate Teapot: Which is no good to anyone for making tea with but might be a tasty treat in the coming weeks. I'm already reusing my mint & camomile teabags

Right. I'd seen those ones too. You put the teabag in the little hole on top and you put the hot water down the spout. The ones that plug into walls and boil the water straight away are much better, I think.

Because the forum generally makes it's tea with tea bags in a mug?
I mean if even Matin does it, what chance is there of one of the rest of us using a Teapot?

I’m not entirely sure how to respond to all this but here goes. It would appear I have shackled myself to an intellectual. As we all know, intellectuals are unconscionably stupid and so I can only assure you that, as someone of lesser brain power, I will do everything in my practical power to keep the doctor alive during our blissful engagement and marriage. The first step of this is a banning of teapots being bought for us as engagement or wedding presents as my beautiful beau doesn’t understand them and will undoubtedly injure himself if he tries to use one. Kettles appear to be alright as he has made me two cups of tea today without any trips to A&E. I hope this puts all your minds at rest. Jen

But why would you do that? Just pour it into the cup before it goes cold!!! -Ralph If you are making one cup a tea bag in a cup and hot water from a *kettle* is fine, but for making many cups or good quality tea it is better to brew tea in a tea pot. Saves tea and effort.

Why do they still make ones that don't plug into the wall? They are for serving tea in cafes and restaurants. They are not for heating water. If you order a 'pot of tea for two' they bring you a teapot containing tea and two empty cups and saucers, and some milk and sugar. They don't give you a kettle of boiling water and two teabags.
