This is about Classics through Generations 2.0 updates, but you can list original lines, masterpiece, holy grails, movie lines... whatever you like.
I was thinking about how Classics has been going on for twice the length of G1, and only after 15 years have we just now gotten a Shockwave, and the Optimus Prime we shoulda gotten 15 years ago. So... After 15 years, what are the holes in your collection? Whether you feel they weren't done well enough (including bad distribution, or stupidly rare exclusive)? You don't have to justify your reasons for wanting this character, or a do-over if it's been done not to your satisfaction, though you may if you wish. This isn't a wishlist in the traditional sense. It's what mocks you when you look at your shelf. (Like G2 Sideswipe did until we got Siege, or G2 Starscream before the club toy)

Lacking these guys just hurts me-
· Proper green G2 Megatron, with the shoulder railgun and tank front chest. · G2 Jhiaxus (made worse by the fact several molds of the last few years would be great for a retool) · G1 Scorponok in a proper size · G1 Fort Max in a proper size · Thunderwing · Nightbeat · All "mini"bots (except Warpath. Gen Warpath was perfect] · Thunderclash · Ironfist · Armada Optimus Prime · BM Jetstorm · God Neptune · CW Nexus Prime

I worry less about holes but would enjoy new characters and unexpected designs with Generations level technology. I feel that is what is missing.

Good thread. I think after all this time it is interesting to turn and reflect on Where we're at with Generations. Which I think it's safe to say is most Collectors 'Main Line'. I can't believe Generations is so old. And when you consider just how old it is, you're right, CJ, they certainly were slow to give us some A Listers, like Shockwave.
So. My Holes. I'm doing ok, actually. Siege filled a hole I didn't realise I had! And yet... did realise I had... unconsciously, perhaps.. Not Earth, Not Cybertron, a more-or-less 'unified' design esthetic. Nice, solid, non-gimmicky figures of my beloved '84ers. Marvelous.
And the biggest hole that Siege filled, or nearly filled- Voyager Seekers. FFS, how long... how long... Then after the longest drought, the greatest flood! Two complete sets in two consecutive lines! Crazy... Crazy, but welcome. I really liked the Classics mold, and had all 6 main Seekers. But the mold was two small for me. Too small for my Mind's eye. Way too small 'cos it was a small Delux size. The air in-takes coming to other delux's head height. It pained me. But now... HOLE FILLED! Only the ridiculous shameful lies of Amazon stand in my way. So close... So close! I should've just got a US one like everyone said. But hopefully soon darling Pinwig will come to my rescue.
Omega Supreme filled a rather large hole.
And Optimus Prime, Megatron and Shockwave. Soundwave... And Ratchet and Ironhide! Siege, you have given me EVERYTHING! So many multiple holes, FILLED!
The only other holes are small, but maddening. A Jazz and the missing Siege Cassettes. The bastards. Not sure what to do there. I don't see Buzzsaw happening. I am hoping for an Earthrise Jazz. RTS Jazz was superb. But the design esthetic has altered since. He doesn't fit. And he's enormous (and I don't have anymore).
I have... Learnt to 'let go' a tad. Take the long awaited Siege Shockwave. He is -just a smidge- too small. I like my Shockwaves to be AS LARGE as my Megatrons. But he's close enough! And I love the esthetic. So, chill. Perfection doesn't exist.
The only other thing is not a figure. It's figure improvement. As much as I love Siege, it let me down on one thing. Prowl. His legs need fillers. Then he'd be... well again, not perfect perfect, but pretty darn close.
I'm so close...
I'm so close to having all my holes filled!!!!

Except for this:
PRETENDERS.
They tease us with the Prime Masters, but don't even bother finishing the full set of characters. We need proper Pretender updates. That's the one gaping hole for me...

Triggerbots, cons and the four missing Target and Powermasters.
Sparkler Mini-bots, Firecons. Carnivac, Catilla, Snarler... Anyone who was in Marvel and hadn't been updated, really.

Try the Micromaster bases this year, loving the one I have Unexpected designs yes.. but only half new. I see your point but Generations isn't really the line for new characters. The unique main selling point of it is that it's a remake line of old characters. Where I feel there is a problem is with the Transformers lines as a whole. The lines that tie into new cartoons really should have truck loads of new characters but still tend to do the same old ones for the most part. There is also a gap in the market for Generations-level new character toys for those line. So: keep Generations as it is. Pump the other lines full of new characters and have more 'Generations-quality' toys in those lines as well as the much simpler kiddy-friendly lines. Of course, Hasbro and Tomy are commercial companies. They'll keep pumping out what sells best. So vote with wallets, everyone, for what you want. -Ralph

I completely agree with you there, Doctor. That's a really good strategy there. New characters in the new cartoons. Transformers needs new characters.

Very good question this. It's something I think about a lot, which led to the retrospective thread I started and the big long list on the second page tmukhub.proboards.com/thread/10648/multipurpose-chug-retrospective-thread?page=2That needs updating a bit now. Job for the week. Thing is as we edge closer and closer to a full set of 84-87, I find now I'm more and more interested in completing teams and groups from other years too. Particularly Micromasters and Japanese teams. Without going further afield, from my own core - 84-87 - I would like to see the little chaps done right now. We've got a proper Cliffjumper, so let's have the rest and the Throttlebots. Beyond that, Blaster in the right scale with his little chaps. And, impossibly, all the missing Micromasters.

The problem with the little chaps now us that Cliffjumper has moved the goalposts somewhat. We'd just got decent figures like Brawn, but will those legends work with new Cliffjumper? I haven't seen any pictures.

It would have still been bad, but that mold would have made a halfway decent Nightbeat had they given him a new chest.
As is, between that and the Club's, we still do not have a serviceable one for my taste.

I have a lot of third party Huffers that I forget what is 'official' because it doesn't really matter to me as long as the toy is decent and it's clearly who it is meant to be. Masterpiece 1984 is my collection - which I finished a year ago, but how many holes would that have if not for third party?

Yes, the Throttlebots are particularly annoying. I've been hoping for a proper Goldbug for years now - by which I mean one with the hood and the different faceplate, and not just a shinier Bumblebee - and am constantly disappointing. But then Hasbro seem to want to hurt us, by promising groups but then only selling one or two of them, such as with Chase. Which was nice, but, dammit!, give us the rest! Especially since the Throttlebots had such a prominent role in the Marvel comics...
