TFWiki posted this look at Hasbro's financials, which might suggest why they don't care about the rest of the world:
Which is fair enough, if you just look at which numbers are the biggest. Except if you actually look at the figures with any sort of attention, you'll see that in 2019 sales to North America made up 51% of Hasbro's revenue - which is a large amount, it's true, but there's also still 49% missing, which is still a lot of money. It turns out that international sales accounted for 38% of their revenue, and Europe alone made up 22% of revenue - which is still a large amount, especially considering the presumably smaller number of customers for the geography. So attempting to frame this in a "well Hasbro makes more money in the US" way doesn't really hold when you stop and look and think for more than a second. If anything, it makes it a lot worse. Unless Hasbro actually actively only want to be making half their current revenue per year...

Are the numbers just for TF? I don’t have Twitter so it’s hard to see any detail. I’ve no business degree and don’t work in industry but it doesn’t seem to me that the overall profits of even one segment of a business tell us that much about the viability and relative profitability of any one given product and related marketing.

Actually, I see you can click through without a twitter account. I found the figures and they seem to be general (rather low???).
Just below they specifically note the importance of the major retailers in the US. As the numbers are old, they namecheck Toys r us. Now Amazon owns the world you can see why they need to do everything they can to cosy up with them.

But not for those of us outside North America!
Luckily plenty of people will re-post so we'll find out anyway. Since everyone else understands how this "World Wide Web" works...

I stopped following Hasbro Pulse. I got pissed off with their "only for US and Canada fans" announcements.

But not for those of us outside North America! My suspicion is that that is there because the products are only available through Pulse in North America and the material will be viewable worldwide. We shall see....

The reason why it pisses me off is that Pulse is Hasbro's feed for informing fans about their product. Effectively telling most of the planet to consistently go fuck themselves is very bad PR in the internet of 2020. Geolocking shite is more like the internet of 2000.

Indeed. Whilst I understand that they might be wanting to lock it due to otherwise having to deal with irate fans not being able to buy from Pulse, as Phil says, I also think it’s crappy and lazy when they could just say “available from Pulse in US/CAN, and other affiliated retailers online” and that would solve it. The way they’re presenting it at the moment, however, is that they just can’t be fucked with the rest of us. Which, y’know...

Well with Fun Publications no longer a thing, someone has to give a big ol' FU to the international fans.

That's a very good way of putting it, but at the same time possibly undermines the Pulse exclusivity angle in the US. “available from Pulse in US/CAN, and other affiliated online retailers overseas” ?

I thought that hadn't been done officially yet? I was guessing it would be another figure over the pulse weekend. The list they gave said it was some of the toys, not necessarily all?

It hasn't been done here at all. It hasn't even been announced.
It's making me genuinely anxious.
