Good summary, Martin. I was thinking along those lines - we shouldn't be here so it doesn't feel quite right that we're trying to reconnect the camera. The power is currently off I think because the wires hanging from the ceiling have been cut by the crash, so I think our aim is to use the grey and purple wires to reconnect power to the room so the door is operable. The next problem will be how we press the button to open the door from the outside.
But the first step is how to use the wires to get power back in the room. I just don't know anything about electrical wiring and so far today have done nothing but mark books and plan resources for teachers, so I've had no chance to learn. If you know how to use what we have to get electricity flowing, then go for it!

I don't know. I'm not holding back in order to stay in character or anything like that. The voltages and powers just seem very low given the resistances. Voltage = current x resistance, power = current-squared x resistance, but the current is 10A (going by the red or white numbers) or 6A (going by the blue numbers), and the resistances are all bigger than 1-Ohm, even connecting them in parallel, so how does that fit with a voltage of 5V?
Maybe we should just start linking the wires up at random? What's the worst that could happen?

Well as we seem to be stuck, the situation is...
You have 5 wires hanging, two are power sources, two are reed switches for something and the final one is a circuit breaker reset that trips when the total current draw is > 10A.
You also have access to two cables of various resistance.
How can you power the reed switches without overloading the circuit so the circuit breaker trips?

If the wires are all dangling separately, what if we just don't include the circuit breaker in the connection? Then it can't trip.
I just don't get it. A switch is an off/on thing that completes or breaks a circuit, you connect wires to them, they aren't wires themselves. If we wire a switch to a power source it isn't a switch, it's going to get powered by the power cable.
Is there any combination that just makes the numbers work?

Reed switches trigger when they have current applied. I was going to have a logic and gate instead, but switches would be more implicit they were required for the door.

KRYTEN sits on the floor and starts murmuring some kind of chant to himself whilst CAT reaches out and presses an imaginary button.
"Hey fellas!" he exclaims with gleeful confidence "don't worry, this is gonna sort itself out now. Just wait!"
The rest of the room exchange looks and shrugs as if this odd behaviour isn't anything unexpected from him.
Meanwhile, SHOCKPROWL takes it upon himself to lick all the wires. Fortunately they are insulated and nothing untoward happens.
KRYTEN stands and attempts to connect the red and white wires using the grey wire, but it is still connected to the wall behind the security camera and won't reach.

I know we can reach it because it says so in the original description. Can we now grab it and connect the red and white ones?
I do not know what to do here, so I'm happy to connect every possible combination of the wires in the ceiling with the grey one until something works. Otherwise we're going to be here forever.

BEAT door with Cat until one of them breaks.
A mid hum suggests to me that we have power but not enough. Also not sure how we open the door when the button to do it is on the outside.

CAT responds 'OK bud!' and moves to join him by the door. KRYTEN continues 'Now stand still, this won't take a second.' Slipping behind CAT, he attempts to give him a hard shove into the door. CAT's attuned reflexes kick into action.

Sirs, I believe here we need to break the glass panel to get an arm through to reach the button Mr Rimmer saw, but need the right wire combination to provide enough power for it to open the door.
