We have stuff in our pockets...?
EXAMINE what's in my pockets. ASK others to do the same (those that have pockets).

What's it got in its pocketses, precious?
CAT has a fumble in his pockets.
CAT then remembers what he's supposed to be doing and investigates their contents.

No way! Is that right? Cat must have incredible yo-yo skills if he can curl it 180 degrees in midair? Surely the button is next to the door it opens, not opposite it?

CAT moves to the door, decides to take things into his own hands and tries to swing the Yo-Yo into the door button on the other side.

Kryten puts his head in his hands.
It's as I thought, sirs. The electrical connection we have managed to rig up doesn't have enough power to open the door. I fear we're stuck here until one of us can work out which wires to connect to which.
And it's hackles, Mr Cat sir. We have discussed this before.

50W/5V30W/5V_/ _ 5Ω_/ _ 2Ω-〰- 4Ω-〰- 10Ω_ ︵ _ 10A This is what we have. At the moment the blue and green wires are connected with they grey one. I think I remember connecting the red and white with the grey caused the wiring to short out.

It's got to be the red one. The red and blue seem to be the ones carrying the power and the red has more. But what it connects to I've no idea. I couldn't relate the numbers on the wires we have to ohm's law.

{HINT!}You have two cables, you're only using one. Four electrical components you have available have impedance that will draw a certain amount of current based on the power supplied. You don't want to draw too much total current or the circuit breaker will trigger.

*spends another ten minutes googling the terms and bangs head against wall again*
Guesswork then. So there are three pairs of symbols, no idea still what they mean, and the white one. If Stom is saying we need to use the grey and purple wires, presumably we need to link the three different symbols together. Where the white one goes I don't know. Try the biggest numbers together?
CONNECT red and green with grey CONNECT blue and black with purple

I tried that several pages back but I think I ended up electrocuting myself. The success threshold was way too high to stand a chance of pulling it off.

Ooooops.
Couple of corrections are due, but I don't think it changes much.
White wire should be 10.75A. When you connected the Red+Green wires with grey, there was a humming, not a spark.

KRYTEN disconnects the grey wire and uses it to connect the green and red wires. A slight mid pitch humming can be heard from near the door.
KRYTEN uses the purple wire to connect the blue and black wires. The humming from near the door increases in pitch, you see a light briefly flicker from through the door window before it cuts out with an audible clicking noise from near the white wire.

I don't even know what I'm googling to try and understand the symbols. Anything to do with electrical wiring just tells me how to wire plugs and houses. I can't get at anything that teaches me the relationships between the volts, amps, switch, wavey lines, bendy line. The reason I can't solve this is because I've got nothing to help me understand what I'm asking. So we just have to randomly connect wires until it works.
CONNECT green and white with purple.

KRYTEN moves to connect more wires. To his amazement the wires all change... Some disappear leaving only 2 hanging from the wall and one in hand.
"Sirs... did you see that?" he queries with the group.
The group concurs.
"I believe this is another instance of group hallucinations we've experienced before. We had better keep an eye out for squid evidence. It's possible that whilst the males and females of the species invoke dread and hope... perhaps juveniles protect themselves through confusion? We had best be careful."
CAT smiles.
"Does this mean we may get our hands on some fishy snacks? Things are looking up!"
KRYTEN investigates the cables as they now appear. There are two red cables hanging from the wall labelled POWER and DOOR and in hand is another red cable labelled DOOR at one end and POWER at the other.

CONNECT door cable to door end and power cable to power end.
I'm feeling pretty stupid about this; Stom, do you have a link to something that would explain what the symbols on the cables were and how they relate? It feels like this is very simple, but I just didn't know what I was searching for. I do circuit diagrams at school, but it's much more simple than this at my level. I'd like to know what we were trying to do.

First identify the current on each of the cables that supply the power using P=VI 50W/5V = 10A 30W/5V = 6A I realise now I accidentally actually put the equation in the notation I used So the next step is figure out the current draw using OHM's law if the door switches are connected up to each of the power cables based on the voltage, V/R = I. (Both power supplies are 5V, so I'll just list these once) 5V/ 5Ω = 1A 5V/ 2Ω = 2.5A 5V/ -〰- 4Ω = 1.25A 5V/ -〰- 10Ω = 0.5A But what of the white wire? This was the circuit break, should you go over the combined power draw. The clicking was this tripping and you'd need to reset with either power. _ ︵ _ 10.75ASo now you need to figure out how to combine the current draws so that the remaining current combined from both supplies through the door switches is 10.75A so the circuit breaker doesn't trip. e.g. 10A - ( 1A + 1.25A) = 7.75A 6A - ( 2.5A + 0.5A) = 3A ---- 3A+7.75A = 10.75A Which in actual fact is any combo of cables as long as it's ps->resistor->switch. And earlier when you did CONNECT red and green with grey CONNECT blue and black with purple This shouldn't have tripped the switch, when you did this I thought I had a single combo of cables that would be less than 10A. In conclusion I can't do simple arithmetic and I'm sorry.
