The prospect of improvements - and completion ? - of the Starscream and Inferno combiners is exciting!

And this one isn't even particularly interesting. To me, anyway - for some reason I never found Abominus that interesting. And it's not like we can expect this to be an interesting repaint after the Volcanicus teaser turned out to be... Volcanicus. Still, good for people who like this kind of thing, though. And it'll certainly be interesting to see what they do with the Orthia, Starscream and Inferno sets, for sure. Will we finally get a full set of CW See-Attack Jets from the CW Starscream mold? Probably not, but I won't completely write it off.

They've done their own take on decoes, but so far and even up to Volcanicus, they've largely stuck with what Hasbro has done, with three exceptions.
They also don't seem terribly interested in reusing the same limb molds twenty times.
There's not enough unused molds or toolings leftover to do an inferno combiner. Just Inferno (which they've used four times already, with Hotspot, Onslaught, MegaEmpress, and Dolrailer), Elita, Starscream, Jazz, Moonracer, Dreadwind, and Darkwing.
But... There's a mixture with unique tooling they haven't touched yet, but Hasbro did.
Liokaiser. Only swap out Dezarus with Leozack from the Staracream mold.
I think that would be more likely than a very odd, mismatched, and repetitive Seeker combiner. (Starscream wouldn't match Thundercracker and Skywarp. Who would be the other two limbs? Dip into the coneheads and you leave one out.
They sorta acknowledge slipstream, but not acid storm, and have ignored Sunstorm for a while (after cursing us with him).

I like my Abominus as is, not sure what they can do to make that big a difference. The only thing he's missing is a gun, and I'm not shelling £160 odd for a gun.
Liokaiser with a retooled Starscream as Leozack would be nice though...

It doesn't feel like there's a lot to be done - better feet and (pink) hands, a gun. Not even sure that the deco of the individual characters was all that lacking in POTP, they seemed pretty good to me. Is there some key way in which they weren't Sunbow enough?

A quick look says they might reverse the colours on Hun-Grr's arms, as Abominus has a grey waist and white thighs, but that's the only thing that I can see with a quick scan

I don't think you can complete any of POTP combiners without repetition, but Takara have done it, of sorts, with the same source mould, albeit in different variations, being used several times on more than one combiner. For Starscream I would use two of the following pairs: Blackwing & Dreadwind, Buster & Hydra (from Blackwing & Dreadwind), Thundercracker & Skywarp (from Skydive) For Inferno You've got Jazz & Wreck-Gar. Takara haven't done a Smokescreen or a Bluestreak. So that's 4 easy. Hoist from Trailbreaker, we know the head tooling exists. And, if they can spring for a new head & chest tooling, Sideswipe & Red Alert from Sunstreaker. But it will *PROBABLY* be an improved deco Elita-1 combiner next: that wasn't finished in Japan, Greenlight & Lancer didn't come out there. I won't object to see Leokaiser from Starscream, especially if they can do a swing wing jet retool..... which would then bring a Jetfire repaint into play! |

And lets not forget we still need G2 Defensor.

Hun-Gurr is a bit improved, but the rest are a step sideways. Not different enough to be better or worse.
Actually, I take that back... while they're not worse, I think a few of the selects are a little more bland.
