"hybrid version of MP these days" sounds encouraging. I am rethinking what masterpiece means to me at the moment, but finishing the Diaclone cars at that scale is still on the cards.

While, yes, a return to a sensible MP design is welcome, I'm amazed they've gone for Skids over Jazz again. Porsche must really be playing hardball!

Jazz, Mirage, Trailbreaker, Hoist, Skids being the only Diaclone cars not represented yet does make Skids seem like a weird choice, however it's one that gives me hope we will get there in the end. Are there licensing issues holding up Mirage like Jazz?

Mirage is complicated, there's a whole host of rights and licensing issues there.
FIA owns the rights to F1, and historically so. The Ligier team itself may hold the rights to that specific design, but I'm unsure if the current Ligier team is legally the same as the F1 team which ceased to be an ongoing concern in 1996. Bernie Ecclestone used to be notorious for not letting anything be licensed if he couldn't repeatedly monetise it, but the new owners have been a bit more open to using the historic side of the sport, so that's hopeful.
I suspect the car rights are in a bit of a limbo, and maybe the cigarette sponsorship could be a problem. (sure Citanes was distinct from Gitanes, but is it enough now?)
Exhaust gave Takara headaches when Phillip Morris got wind of the Marlboro deco, so maybe that's scared them off using race sponsored alt modes?

Hmm. Good job we got Sphinx then I suppose. At least that was a 3P figure that properly fits with the style of the early car MPs.

The thing I keep hearing is that Skids car mode is a popular design in Japan making it a likely seller ( that does lead to the question of why we havent gotten more Skids in the past, but anyway) Also there are a butt load of repaints available including 2 which can be sold as Mudflap and Skids which is a stronger movie crossover appeal than the other diaclone cars.

On the one hand, this is interesting since it's not a slavish, main-Sunbow-character re-imagining, which is nice. And as such it'll be interesting to see what they do with the toy. On the other hand, Generations figures are so good these days that I really don't think I could be interested in the Masterpiece line any more...

Hell, even Beast Wars. Except for LioConvoy, every single BWMP has been done/will be by Kingdom, all look at least okay in comparison, and all for a fraction of the price.
You can get every announced and rumored Kingdom BW for the cost of BWMP Megatron.

I was just thinking we were due a new MP announcement.
My only concern is that the roof is attached in robot mode by a 90degrees flap coming from the lower back, and it juts out a little far to accommodate the angle of the windscreen up to behind the head. But, looks good.

Very interesting... Changing MP styling? That'll piss off the Sunbowers. But it'll be good to have MPs how it always should have been- a mixture of G1 update and Sunbow. Too late to pull me back in though, especially with Generations as good as they are.
Skids was my first, and my first 'favorite' until I learnt of The Prowl. But I'll wait and hope for a Generations.

Yeah, Im all for any return to detailing, but thats a u turn then over shooting the old MPs and straight into Alternity/Bayverse detailing.
I still prefer it over the blank MPs, but I'm not starting a brand new line of MPs for Skids.

Yeah, I don't think mistransformed, just another Tracks scenario. Which is fine, I thought MP Tracks was underrated, so I could be tempted as long as the price isn't insane. Which it probably will be.
The worst thing would be if this is the reason we aren't getting a WFC Skids, so as not to cannibalise sales.
