Well it's good to see that the Ultra Magnus retool has been an unqualified success! Erm. Not that I can argue, really - the Siege version is certainly better, mostly because it wasn't trying to be an accurate G1 Magnus, and so the differences were fine. This... just doesn't work. The one thing I will say though is that yes, his arse is meant to slide up so it's more of a backpack than an arse shelf. Not that that helps everything else, mind you. Shoulders and Shoulder Pylons are new. They were white, with the shoulders painted blue but these are blue, with the shoulders painted wide. Pegs at the top are the give away. Same sprue as the new trailer sides? |

Launchers are new too, and they are white plastic as far as I can see. They've got the same slightly odd peg arrangement as the Siege one where the peg is below the launcher instead of sticking out the side.

Robot looks better than siege but doesn't land the same way the other current G1s tend to.

I think the only reason it looks better than Siege is because it's cleaner. Siege Magnus is one of the worst with the weathered deco, and excessively gribbled sculpting.
This would have been spectacular eight years ago. But when you compare it to the gorgeousness of it's BW counterparts, and how absolutely dead on most ER toys are, Ultra Magnus lands flatter than a flapjack.

I'm pleased to see the ASSIVE MARSE was a mis-transformation.
However I'm going to be very tempted to put the Siege white robot in the Earthrise trailer/body.

City Commander. That 3P armour that attached to Classics White Prime. He looks like that.

I'm not convinced this is better than the CW one either but then is that one now too big? But then when you think about the brick-like original it's hard to know what an articulated version should like like.

I've been getting my CW Magnus out recently with my WoC, and yeah, he's humongous next to them. But it works for me, as my G1 Magnus was humongous next to my original collection. So it's kind of nostalgic. But I can understand folks being unhappy with the size difference.

I can't find a decent comparison with a Prime in, but Siege Prime we know comes up to about the top of Siege Magnus's chest. I think for me this will ultimately come down to which Magnus stands eye to eye with the Galvatron we know is coming, which I suspect will be the Siege one.  |
