I'm not 100% sure that quite works: there's a bit of a disconnect between the squarer original style Op body and the more angular Galaxy Force armour

I'm disappointed for multiple reasons: 1) Cybertron Optimus genuinely does not need an update 2) We already have an excellent Optimus in this line, making this slot a huge waist 3) The "little bot" design as seen in the roche art is but ugly, and as Phil says, is horribly disconnected from the Galaxy Force design. 4) Armada Optimus is desperate for an update. But I guess he doesn't deserve one because Chest Windows.

I loved Cybertron Optimus Prime! For yonks he was 'My Prime'. Until Classics came along.
This looks ok. Doesn't look very secure somehow. But yeah, it is funny to have two Optimus' so close together.

You do tend to be a lone voice with this opinion Armada and Energon Prime were tops though. Cybertron Prime is a block of solid shit in plastic form. The kind that does not flush...even with Cillit Bang! -Ralph

I'm disappointed for multiple reasons: 1) Cybertron Optimus genuinely does not need an update As was pointed out to me, it was 14 years ago! True, but it's still a strong toy even today. If one were to do a heavy retool of an existing leader into a UT Optimus, I'd say it'd best be PotP Rodimus into Armada Optimus. And this one is also a second G1 Optimus in a line that already has a G1 Optimus. So it feels a bit copout and a waisted slot. If we were gonna do G1 Optimus with a Galaxy Force Weaponizer Cosplay, I'd be much happier had it been the voyager mold than that genuinely ugly (and boring) UM retool we seen in the comic covers. I'm just disappointed in a way that Ultra Magnus didn't.

Cybertron Primes Super robot mode was great, but the small Prime bot was frankly pants. Which put it on par with Energon and far ahead of Armada. It was also way too big, just stupidly big, yet not as stupidly big as Megatron.
This one looks like it still has a pant smaller bot mode but the supermode now looks far more playable and likely better scaled to toys around it.

Nice. That's a good enough reason to skip Siege Magnus then. I'll have that instead.

Okay, I think I pegged WHY this guy is irritating me. Because there's only three leaders, and one is waisted on a second G1 styled optimus (albeit with additional weaponizer Galaxy Force Cosplay), when there was already a perfectly fine G1 styled Optimus of a similar size. Meaning, there was no real reason this guy couldn't wait to kick off the next line. We coulda had Jetfire with weaponizer macross armor and boosters. We coulda had Star Saber, or Thunderwing. Or, conversely, we coulda skipped the voyager optimus and had an additional slot there (especially if optimus turned out to be a one-off mold that's not repainted or remolded).
I think that is why this bothers me. It just feels like a waist. Poor planning of a figure that could have happened next year/line.

Okay, with the likelyhood of ever getting Cybertron Optimus repainted into pre-beast Big Convoy having officially deminished from "fat chance" to "aliens will land on the whitehouse lawn and anal probe trump, first" with the end of FP... I now propose Siege Leader Cybertron Optimus as the base for pre-beast Big Convoy.

That... is certainly a thing that could happen.
I'm a little on the fence at the moment about this Prime. On the one hand, it's great to see that someone's decided that they can break away from the total and sole worship of the years 1984 to 1986. On the other hand, the original Galaxy Convoy was a superb toy. This'll have to be something pretty special in hand to be a worth replacement. And the smaller robot looks a lot more... squat... than I might have liked. But that could just be bad photography. We'll see...

Phil has been enjoying real life by seeing his mother and having dinner with his oldest friend! No, only had 2 hours with Shockwave and Magnus yesterday before I left which, together with having bath and packing, was just about long enough to unbox them. Both look nice. On a first reading, this post suggested to me that Shockwave was your mother and Magnus your oldest friend. Martin

Slightly worryingly I have known Magnus (early 86) longer than I have known Louise, who I had dinner with tonight (Jan ish 89)

Phil will surrender Grand Galvatron to nobody!
Magnus: the knubs on the top of his shoulders are odd: they could do with being 5mm posts, like the original, or larger posts with a 5mm hole down the middle. Shoulder Missile launchers are odd shaped, either too high or too low. Like the 5mm holes either side of the top of the body behind the head. Wish the gun was white.
