Yep. As discussed last night, this is bollocks. There's no way I'd pay that much for this set in one go, especially as it's likely to be very difficult to actually play chess with this set, given that it's going to initially be really difficult to remember which piece is which. So essentially this is just going to be a display piece - and at this price that's a firm "no".

If they'd just done a standard Eaglemoss project, with figurines that were sculpted well (by which I mean holding to the original source aesthetic, but with realistic joints and stuff to add detail), a nice glossy paint finish and one a month.... I might well have been tempted. But these look cheap, to boot.

It certainly is an odd arrangement. I get Elita 1 is Prime's great love, but Arcee must feel a bit put out as the most famous female character. And trying to find a match on the other side and ending up with Starscream... Doesn't sit right. Nightbird is just as recognisable as Elita.

My big swanky super-sexy set is 54 cm, just under 2 foot, and.... Well I never get it out, it's too big. Much better is my slightly smaller set which has a 48 cm board and fits on the sideboard (yes, we have a sideboard). That's big, but manageable- pleasingly so. That's the set I'm playing Bogatan on (hen he decides to play fucking move). |

And yes, I've seen a couple of Transformer chess sets over the years and they never look good. Partly because novelty chess sets just don't work, but also because the most recognisable characters don't lend themselves to the pieces. |
