You are right about this, Shockers, which is why I didn't buy Iguanus in the first place. But the two Core class ones will look good together. I'm wondering if you throw in the even smaller Pottop ones it'll make a mini display in itself. Pretenders I'm not too worried about in the G1 update collection, they can sit in a corner on their own.

That was it. That's what I was thinking. If you put Voyager, Deluxe, Core and Primemaster representations all together it's either going to look a complete mess or like it was supposed to be like that. I was thinking mess, but I'm intrigued by the possibility.

Yes, I am likewise loving the looking that ickle Bomburst, and will certainly be picking one up, but the size disparity between him and Skullgrin is putting me off. It's not like Skullgrin looks like he's complicated enough to be a Deluxe, so I'm not sure why he is at that scale. But Bomburst is a win for me, for sure.

Primarily deluxes, with the occasional voyager and leader would look good.

But core class only looks good on really small characters (like, it was too small even for Rattrap).

They really should have swapped Iguanus and Arcee. Arcee would have benefited as well. It would have set her apart from the two previous deluxes that do that design better, by offering something they don't- being a smaller toy.

It's impossible to say of course without having a deluxe equivalent, but I wonder if part of the charm of Iguanus is his scale. I think he might lose some of the fiddle-factor at a larger size where they'd be able to get more engineering in.

I also wonder if Pretender shell designs work especially well done small; Iguanus' sculpt is amazing, but the more traditional robot TFs tend to end up looking blocky and simplified in core class. That could just be that the designers poured a particularly large amount of love (and maybe budget) into him though...

Don't worry - most Transformers are different scales anyway (Insert Astronauts "Always Was" image here). :-)

I'm liking the look of Bomburst a lot. Between him and Iguanus I can have decent toys of two of the Destron Pretenders from Masterforce in my collection. The Primemaster may well stand in for the remaining member of the trio nicely. Unlike Brick Grin at least he isn't pretending he doesn't transform into a regular solid...

I was sold on the Minerva before we even saw it - I wasn't expecting to be in a position to have a representation of that character for less than seventy quid, so I swooped immediately and one is on its way to the Frigate Northampton as we speak.

C'Mon Hasbro - you need to do us a Shuta and Cab now...

Hello again!

Following up with another Core class reveal.
Here we have some more photos of Core legacy Bombburst, or Blood if you prefer the Japanese name.

Continuing with how we've been implementing the decepticon pretenders, we merged the monster shell with the bot alt mode.

This is another Hasui san master piece and it amazes me how well this figure turned out.

The wings are attached by 5mm posts on the sides of the arms and can be stored on the back. There's some bat wing sculpt detail on the undersides that you can show off if you're so inclined.

We gave him Gold eyes following the original toy release instead of the animation model's Red.

Legacy Deluxe Pretender Skullgrin was a project challenge that really wreaked havoc on my emotions.
.
Last minute these Pretenders were approved for slots slated for dropped characters. Ever since that old Straxus redeco toy Bill Rawley worked on in 2010, I’ve always wanted a proper Dauros from Super God Masterforce but also utilizing what was done as the original G1 toy. All of that equals an absolutely crucial design challenge in which I was constantly second guessing decisions the whole way.

Thank goodness I worked with Yuki san on this guy and his incredible ability to not only design but to advise direction was super helpful.

You can see here, in my concept art I worked up for Skullgrin, I wanted to keep some demon features of the character but also combine them with elements of the toy transforming robot. I really do wish I had more time to debate and draw but I felt utilizing existing artwork for the characters alt mode would really help with time and direction.

Then comes the engineering decisions on whats really possible to even obtain smooth transformation. Back and forth we went on redesigning this figure step by step to get the end result. Which I’m very pleased with the outcome and I hope you are too.

The accessory load out on this guy is unreal. The scale of robot mode I wanted was sort of a pipe dream but he maintains alot of beef and height for a deluxe. He really gives a strong decepticon presence. The colors were another challenge here as you can see some mistakes heppened in production.

Other notes are the cybertronian front hover tank duel gun turret blasters are effects compatible and also have alot of versatility with 5mm ports. The duel bone sword energon blasters can be utilized in multiple ways. Please peep my story for more cool tidbits about this super fun figure, in which, I hope you give him a chance to bless your collection, even if he is without his shell! 💀

Thinking about it, they probably should have done reverse Beast Wars on these.
Where as BWs are robots with organic beast modes, these just straight up be organic robots, with vehicular alt modes.

I think why Iguanus and Bomburst are working where Skullgrin feels a bit lost, is the entirely robotic details of the robot modes aren't as obvious on the cores as it is, here. And while having zero organic components in their sculpting, their shapes are a bit more rounded, than Skullgrin.

And had they leaned hard into creating straight articulated transforming updates of the shells, there's nothing stopping Hasbro from creating toys based exclusively on the inner robots, later.

I'm not sure if I like the peek behind the curtain from designers. It is very interesting but it sort of ruins the magic that the figures materialise from space fully formed

There was a Nightbeat & Hosehead rumour right at the start of Legacy, tmukhub.proboards.com/post/450736/thread, before we even knew about Minerva tmukhub.proboards.com/post/458618/thread

There some speculation that 1988 Minerva (and her Japanese versions) are the originals and Nightbeat (and the western versions) are the repaints. The Japanese Headmasters make a nice set of 3 emergency vehicles with the hinges serving as Minerva's lightbar whereas the Western versions feel a lot less cohesive as a team.

You could get a Nightbeat robot out of Legacy Minerva - here's a Digibash:
