What figures do you remember as excellent/naff only to return to them and have your original opinion switch or indeed reinforced?
I recently took MP Tigatron off the shelf to put back into alt mode. I was very impressed when I originally got him, but with the instructions packed away and knowledge of panels and other such modern MP... erm, nuances, I'd been putting it off fearing a painful experience. To my surprise, just the opposite. Everything went well and I came away with a better opinion of the figure than I had before.

Well, this isn't exactly on topic, but it is very adjacent.
I hated Transmetal Rhinox. It was the ugliest damned TF in ages, and was a travesty to Rhinox. I passed up every version of that mold that got released, I couldn't stand it that much.
In more recent years I've become a BW completionist wannabe. I got most of the high dollar stuff back in the day, so this seems a reasonable goal. And one of those goals is to expand BW by assigning new characters to same character repaints, like some of the Fox Kids and Universe 1 stuff.
But it all comes back to Rhinox. Do I really want to be a completionist that badly? I found a cheap Fox Kids TM Rhinox on ebay, and finally broke down and bought one.
AND OF MY GOD THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST MOST FUN BW TOYS OF ALL TIME MY PAST SELF WAS SUCH A BLOODY IDIOT

I thought one-step changers were an abomination and mostly avoided them until Cyberverse when the bright packaging drew me towards them like a moth to a flame. To my susprise I found I loved them! Ended up getting all the Cyberverse ones.
I have enjoyed them more than most Generations figures. They are fun fiddle toys and don't take half an hour to transform and also have play features. Repugnus and Bludgeon are particular highlights.
I aim to track down the RID2025 ones at some point.

If I saw a Repugnus, I would buy it. That one always did look fun.

I'm frequently reminded of how much I (and seemingly most people) loved Universe Sideswipe/Sunstreaker and how not so much these days.
