The large CONFIDENTIAL banner across it does make whoever uploaded the image look like a bit of a dick though!

Doesn't help make the toy look any more appealing, though...

So I picked up Leader Thundercracker friday.
I have to say that this mold does not do Seeker well at all. It has all of the issues inherent in Jetfire (wears the entire jet on his back, hides the entire robot under the jet, all jet parts on robot are fake) Plus, all the problems inherent in the classic seeker mold (the biggest one being the wings are fixed, and not hinged to sweep back thus allowing his arms to move with null rays attached) On top of a general transformation scheme that is exceeded by the ten dollar Legend version while costing almost as much as Unicron and Primus did.
Also, and I'll admit this is a minor nitpick, but he has way too many guns. Like, truly a ridiculous amount. He can't equip them all in robot, and he just looks redonculous with them all in jet mode. I'm not normally one to complain about more accessories, but in this case he physically cannot handle them all. All three handhelds are going to be given to under-armed TFs like Bombshell and Powerglide.
Not recommended.

Yeah Jetfire is great.
The remoulding to make TC impressed me and I get that the trio make perfect business sense, what other remould has the same popular appeal one time let alone 3 times (or a dozen or so time depending how far they want to take it), but I have little interest in buying any of them myself.

The one time I handled a Jetfire I was terrified I would snap him in half thanks to the odd transformation and tiny little waist joint.

I like Jetfire but the transformation is a bit terrifying . I still have no clue how it works.
That and while Jetfire is BIG, seekers are not and so the mold doesn't work.

It just feels too lightweight to me - and in no way satisfying. Which is a shame. I'd wanted a Jetfire, and then I had a go of a friend's, and... Nah. Not sure why I got Thundercracker, really. I guess I'm just not very bright...

I got TC because I'm TC obcessed. And it's not as wretch inducing as the FoC mold which I was able to pass on.
Although there are situations I wish a TC toy had never been made, and this is one.
Though, putting him with Classics Optimus and RtS Windcharger would create an interesting close to true scale dynamic.

I had a shot of a Jetfire. Plane mode is good. Robot mode is pants and feels very cheap.

I'd be interested to know why they went Thundercracker first with this remould rather than Starscream, who you think would sell more than his colleagues. Especially as there was a smaller Thundercracker still on the shelves.
Shy of a very nice price I don't see me getting any of the Jetfire repaints though.

Jetfire is (effectively) an F-14. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grumman_F-14_Tomcat19m long Starscream etc are F-15s en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McDonnell_Douglas_F-15_Eaglealso 19m long. So in theory they should be the same size. Toywise Jetfire's almost always been bigger. G1 is far longer than Starscream and has always towered over him in robot mode. Ditto Classics.

Jetfire is okay, but given his heritage the toy is a profound disappointment. It's very light too, and transformation from jet to robot is stressful due to the above mentioned torso joint. I expect to see a fair few of them in junk lots in a few years, lying in two bits a la Metroplex back in the day.

Air Raid was/is also an F-15, and doesn't that raise some scale issues...?

I can see why people would assume the original Jetfire was intended to be an F-14, given that he shares most of his aesthetic features with it but personally I don't buy it in terms of his real-world size. Firstly his original bio identifies him as transforming into a "Valkyrie Fighter" rather than an F-14 Tomcat. Secondly he lacks several very identifiable features of the F-14 - very differently-shaped nose section forward of the cockpit, a single-seat rather than tandem dual-seat cockpit and any horizontal tail component. In fact, Jetfire's fighter-mode planform is a near dead-ringer for the Stonewell-Belcom VF-1 "Valkyrie" Variable Fighter from Macross rather than the F-14 Tomcat. A significantly smaller aircraft (the VF-1 is an agile dogfighter, rather than the BVR air supremacy intent of the F-14). Fortunately we have actual, creator-certified, dimensions on the VF-1 (it coming from the most persnicketingly defined and codified mecha show I've ever encountered), so on that basis I'd call Jetfire's real-world fighter mode length to be a hair under the Valkyrie's 14.3m nose to tail. The original Jetfireand Starscream toys are certainly significantly different in size, but that's due to them being on very different scales - Jetfire is 1/55th scale, whilst yhe Diaclone F115s are as I recall, closer to 1/70-something. (I want to say 1/75th but I'm not 100% certain of that) Karl

Air Raid was/is also an F-15, and doesn't that raise some scale issues...? Not for me - The Diaclone Jets are to scale, but the original Aerialbots are clearly not to scale anyway given that all four smaller ones have identically-sized fighter modes for fighters of widely varying sizes (If you've seen an F-16 and an F-15 parked close to each other this becomes very obvious.). No scale, no problem. Karl
