Regarding: Modern Epic Thor. They have gone with vol1 covering JMS. So where does the Dan Jurgens run fit in? It followed Heroes Reborn, which is where most of the first Epic series end (See: FF for one). Daredevil gets a Modern Epic series that begins with the 1998 relaunch. Why not Thor?

Because we no longer think Onslaught is where the classic Epics end. Thor has a volume 24 on the line, which takes him through Heroes Reborn to the point where the title is restarted for the Jurgens run.
Other evidence, Iron Man, Cap & New Avengers Modern Epics, suggests the Heroes Return runs for those titles will also be in the Classic Epics.
Daredevil's moderns seem to start from his reboot, but there is a style shift there with Kevin Smith then Bendis.
*IF*, and it's a BIG IF, the volume number we have for the Red Hulk Modern Epic is correct then that suggests the Hulk Modern Epics start 30 odd issues into the rebooted Hulk with the Bruce Jones run
I wouldn't be looking for 100% consistency here - the Venom vs Carnage LS is in the third Carnage Epic but we think it's also in one of the earliest Venom Modern Epics

The cut-off point thing is interesting, it sort of follows the story of Harras's fall and Quesada's rise with the more modern feel being pioneered in Quesada's Marvel Knights imprint and gradually spreading across the line with Quemas though without any hard cut-off point across all titles.
I adore that late 90s post-Onslaught period, there was a creative explosion there that I don't think gets enough credit.

I suppose Iron Man will get a Modern Epic start at the Warren Ellis Extremis relaunch, with the Busiek volume tacking on to what came before?

Thank you! Was it really only one IM issue? Oh it's an annual, and 6-7 issues of the weekly, which is quite a long time. It stuck with me anyway. The silver Iron Man armour.
EDIT: IM Epic 13 was 2015 so very out of stock. Will keep an eye for a possible reprint.

REPRINT X-Men Epic Collection 6 Proteus prhcomics.com/book/?isbn=9781302950538 Publication Date: 12 Sep 2023 Claremont and Byrne's iconic X-MEN run continues as the team faces the reality-warping mutant menace Proteus! But first, we begin with Magneto. He has a score to settle with the X-Men, who must struggle to hold on to their humanity as their nemesis strips them to their cores. A narrow escape leads them out of the fire, into the frying pan (A.K.A. the Savage Land) where they face Sauron and the immortal Garokk, the Petrified Man. Meanwhile, thinking her teammates killed in their battle with Magneto, Jean Grey heads for Muir Island. That's not all, though: The greatest super-team from up north - Alpha Flight - makes its debut; Arcade toys with our heroes; and the fi rst pieces of Wolverine's origin are revealed! Collecting: X-Men (1963) 111-128 & Annual (1970) 3, Marvel Team-Up (1972) 89 And Incredible Hulk Annual (1968) 7 X-Men 111 is cover dated May 1978 the same month as Amazing Spider-Man 181, Avengers 172 & Fantastic Four 195 www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/newsstand.php?type=cover&month=6&year=1978&publisher=marvel&sort=alpha&checklist=null&variantex=null&collectionex=nullX-Men 128 is cover dated December 1979 the same month as Amazing Spider-Man 199, Avengers 190 & Fantastic Four 213 The short lived Amazing Adventures, reprinting X-Men from issue 1, Tales to Astonish, reprinting Sub-Mariner from issue 1, were published this month as were the first annuals for Micronauts & Spectacular Spider-Man plus the start of Marvel's popular, and until now unreprinted, Rom title. www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/newsstand.php?type=cover&month=12&year=1979&publisher=marvel&sort=alpha&checklist=null&variantex=null&collectionex=nullCover Is: X-Men 114 Title Is: The story in X-Men 125-128 440 Pages $44.99 Don't often do this for reprints but a book of nearly pure Claremonth Byrne? This book was in very short supply when it was first released in the middle of the pandemic as was the also recently reprinted Avengers Epic 5 This Beachhead Earth. I thought I'd written about both before but evidentally not. X-Men has been bimonthly since it's relaunch: the gap between X-Men 111 & 112 is the last 2 month one and the title goes monthly from then on. It aways annoyed me that X-Men's issue number was, for the next ten years, 1 behind Iron Man's, whose title started later! The stories within are less well known that some either side of them: 111-112 Magneto in Antartica 113-116 Savage Land 117 Shadow King 118-119 Japan, Moses Magnum 120-121 Canada, Alpha Flight 122-124 Murderworld, Arcade Annual 3 Arkon 125-128 Proteus Hulk Annual 7 is the same month as X-Men 112 and features Angel, Iceman, Mastermold and Byrne art Marvel Team Up 89 is the same month as X-Men 129 and features Nightcrawler Nevertheless there's some cracking stuff in here, the bulk of the work that Claremont & Byrne did on the title. It's just completely overshadowed by what follows which has been reprinted many times. The main X-Men issues in this book were reprinted in Classic X-Men 17-34 which was where I first read them. They've been reprinted in Essentials, Masterworks and Omnibus but, aside from the paperback version of the MMW, 120-121 are the only regular issues here to be collected in normal trades - they're in the X-Men Alpha Flight trade which I'm still bitter including frequently reprinted later material instead of the rarer material needed to make it Alpha Flight Classic 0. X-Men Annual 3, by Claremont & Perez, was in X-Men Danger Room Battles, which also contains Hulk Annual 7, and the Proteus story got a Premiere Hardcover. I did have - possibly still do somewhere - the first X-Men pocketbook which reprints GS1 and X-Men 117 Here in the UK the New X-Men were reprinted in Rampage Monthly Rampage started out as a weekly comicvine.gamespot.com/rampage/4050-51953/Defenders was the main strip and, with a couple of absentees, the weekly title reprinted Defenders 1-34 & GS5 Rampage then went Monthly, initially contiunuing with it's Defenders reprints alongside Rampaging Hulk reprints before X-Men started in issue 8 with the first section of a 4 part reprint of GS1 comicvine.gamespot.com/rampage-monthly/4050-34318/1 July 78 Defenders 35 Nova: Too Many Heroes 2 August 78 Defenders 36 Nova: Sky Wars 3 September 78 Defenders 37 Nova 16: Death is the Yellow Claw 4 October 78 Defenders 38 Nova 16: When the claw commands 5 November 78 Defenders 39 Nova 17: Tidal Wave 6 December 78 Defenders Annual 1 Nova 18: Final Showdown 7 January 79 Defenders Annual 1 Doctor Strange v2 15: Where there's Smoke (Englehart/Colan) 8 February 79 X-Men GS1 9 March 79 X-Men GS1 10 April 79 X-Men GS1 11 May 79 X-Men GS1 12 June 79 X-Men 94 13 July 79 X-Men 95 14 August 79 X-Men 96 15 September 79 X-Men 97 16 October 79 X-Men 98 17 November 79 X-Men 99 18 December 79 X-Men 100 19 January 80 X-Men 101 20 February 80 X-Men 102 21 March 80 X-Men 103 22 April 80 X-Men 104 23 May 80 X-Men 105 24 June 80 X-Men 106 25 July 80 X-Men 107 26 August 80 X-Men 108 27 September 80 X-Men 109 28 October 80 X-Men 110 MTIO 50 29 November 80 X-Men 111 MTIO 19 30 December 80 X-Men 112 MTIO 21 31 January 81 X-Men 113 32 February 81 X-Men 114 33 March 81 X-Men 115 34 April 81 X-Men 116 MTIO 26 35 May 81 X-Men 117 MTIO Annual 2 36 June 81 X-Men 118 MTIO 27 & 28 37 July 81 X-Men 119 38 August 81 X-Men 120 MTIO 51 39 September 81 X-Men 121 MTIO 52 40 October 81 X-Men 122 MTIO 53 41 November 81 X-Men 123 MTIO 54 42 December 81 X-Men 124 MTIO 55 43 January 82 X-Men 125 MTIO 56 44 February 82 X-Men 126 MTIO 57 45 March 82 X-Men 127 MTIO 58 46 April 82 X-Men 128 MTIO 59 47 May 82 X-Men 129 MTIO 60 48 June 82 X-Men 130 MTIO 61 49 July 82 X-Men 131 MTIO 62 50 August 82 X-Men 132 MTIO 63 51 September 82 X-Men 133 MTIO 64 52 October 82 X-Men 134 MTIO 65 53 November 82 X-Men 135 MTIO 66 54 December 82 X-Men 136 MTIO 67 The title was cancelled with issue 54 at which point X-Men transaferred to Rampage's sister title Marvel Superheroes alongside The Avengers comicvine.gamespot.com/marvel-super-heroes/4050-3088/?page=2393 Jan-83 Avengers 198 X-Men 137 394 Feb-83 Avengers 199 X-Men 137 395 Mar-83 Avengers 200 X-Men 138 396 Apr-83 Avengers 200 X-Men 139 397 May-83 Avengers 201 X-Men 140 When that was cancelled X-Men moved to the new colour Mighty World of Marvel 1 Jun-83 X-Men 141 2 Jul-83 X-Men 142 3 Aug-83 X-Men 143 4 Sep-83 X-Men 144 5 Oct-83 X-Men 145 6 Nov-83 X-Men 146 And that ends the UK's regular publication of the X-Men until the early 1990s

I never bothered with the 90s series, which hit as I was cutting back my new comic spending, but did encounter some of their earlier appearances in bck issues. That earlier Guardians of the Galaxy team got their first Epic collection earlier this year with Epic 1 Earth Shall Overcome. A substantial ammount of classic GOTG material is in Avengers Epic 10 Yesterday Quest, out next week, that also helps support the home media release of the third Guardians of the Galaxy film which appears to be the main reason we have this book now, although given the popularity of the modern Guardians of the Galaxy that was only a matter of time. *THIS* Guardians of the Galaxy is the rebooted present day team whose origins are found in Annihilation: Conquest - Starlord marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Guardians_of_the_Galaxy_(Earth-616)I *thought* I knew who Starlord was, having read at least one previous appearance of the character in a Star Wars Monthly backup strip marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Earth-791But nope, this Starlord/Peter Quill is a new present day 616 character based on the original - although it may or may not have started out that way (sobs) marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Peter_Quill_(Earth-616)Warlock, Drax & Gamora I knew from various Warlock appearances, Mantis from Avengers & Silver Surfer and Rocket Racoon from his limited series, well known to UK readers from it's reprint in Transformers UK issues 55-69. The material collected here is effectively the old Guardians of the Galaxy by Abnett and Lanning Complete Collection 1 - www.previewsworld.com/Catalog/APR140786 - with the addition of the Annihilation: Conquest - Starlord limited series on the start. www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/series.php?seriesid=11128&page=gallerySeveral people have commented that this book really needs the main Annihilation: Conquest 6 issue limited series to show the formation of the team. www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/series.php?seriesid=11001&page=galleryMost of ther material in this book is from the Guardians of the Galaxy 2008-2010 series which has 25 issues www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/series.php?page=gallery&seriesid=11163.... and I'm not sure if I've read ANY of it before! A second Complete Collection - www.previewsworld.com/Catalog/AUG140918 - collecting 13-25 - will form the backbone of modern Epic 2. There's 13 22 page issues worth there: issues 20-24 are Realm of Kings crossover and final GOTG issue 25 leads into the six issue The Thanos Imperative which features the Guardians. That takes us up to 19 issues worth so near enough job done. Rocket Racoon & Groot have a feature in Annihilators www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/series.php?seriesid=14256&page=gallery and Annihilators Earthfall www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/series.php?page=gallery&seriesid=14257 which ammount to about 5 issues worth of material The next Guardians series starts after that in 2013 and has 27 regular issues plus a 0.1 and an Annual www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/series.php?page=gallery&seriesid=17665I have read some of the 2013 series: 1-10 were reprinted in Panini's 2014 Mighty World of Marvel 1-7 to promote the first film comicvine.gamespot.com/the-mighty-world-of-marvel/4050-75409/?sortBy=ascAt that point Mighty World of Marvel looses interest, a common problem with the title that frequently changed it's story line up to try to snag new readers off the back of whatever film was current. However more issues of GOTG 2013 were found at a seemingly unlikely UK source: Panini's 2014 Essential X-Men v3 contains 4 Guardians of the Galaxy 2013 issues as part of crosover stories! Guardians of the Galaxy 11 - 13 are reprinted in issues 13-15 as part of the Trial of Jean Grey Guardians of the Galaxy 24 & 25 are reprinted in issues 23-24 as part of the Black Vortex crossover comicvine.gamespot.com/essential-xmen/4050-79512/?sortBy=ascFor Trial of Jean Grey to be reprinted in full GOTG Modern Epics would also need All New X-Men 22-24 marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Trial_of_Jean_GreyFor Black Vortex to be reprinted in full GOTG Modern Epics would also need Guardians of the Galaxy & X-Men: Black Vortex Alpha #1 Legendary Star-Lord #9, 10 & 11 All-New X-Men #38 & 39 Guardians Team-Up #3 Nova (Vol. 5) #28 Cyclops (Vol. 3) #12 Captain Marvel (Vol. 8) #14 marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Guardians_of_the_Galaxy_%26_X-Men:_Black_VortexBetween the two crossovers that LOOKS like 2 Epics for the 2013 series but the Black Vrtex listing is making me wonder if any more Guardians Team-Up or Legendary Star-Lord should be collected Guardians Team-Up (10 issues) www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/series.php?page=gallery&seriesid=18721Legendary Star-Lord (12 issues) www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/series.php?page=gallery&seriesid=18378Between them that could raise another Epic there..... Avengers Epic Collection 10 The Yesterday Quest prhcomics.com/book/?isbn=9781302948764 Publication Date: 26 Sep 2023 Writers Jim Shooter and David Michelinie and avenging artists George Perez and John Byrne bring you the Avengers at their best! We begin with the cosmic "Korvac Saga" co-starring the Guardians of the Galaxy. Possessed by the Power Cosmic, Korvac seeks to create a utopia on Earth. His god-like power may mean the end to the Avengers—and everyone else on the planet! Then, bookending this volume, we have "The Yesterday Quest." It's storyline with deep revelations for the Scarlet Witch, including her first encounter with the evil power of the Darkhold. In between, new heroes join the team, battles with the Absorbing Man and Count Nefaria will shake your fillings and see why the Avengers will forever be called Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Collecting: Avengers #167-188 Annual #8-9 material from Marvel Tales #100 496 pages $44.99 USD, $56.25 CAD, £40.99 GBP Avengers 167 is cover dated January 1978 the same month as Amazing Spider-Man 176 & Fantastic Four 190 www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/newsstand.php?type=cover&month=1&year=1978&publisher=marvel&sort=alpha&checklist=null&variantex=null&collectionex=nullAvengers 188 is cover dated October 1979 the same month as Amazing Spider-Man 197, Avengers Annual 9, Fantastic Four 211 & Uncanny X-Men 126. www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/newsstand.php?publisher=marvel&type=cover&month=10&year=1979&sort=alphaCover Is: Avengers 167 Title Is: Avengers 185 Now *THIS* is the good stuff, some of my favourite comics in here. Been looking forward to this book since the day Epics were first announced, which included Avengers Epic 9 Final Threat, so to have this this so close to the 10th anniversary of the first Epic's release - Iron Man Epic Collection 10 The Enemy Within was in Comic Shops 18th September 2013 and Book Shops 1st October 2013 - seems an apropriate way to celebrate. The start of the book is missing a possible: Thor Annual 6, featuring the Guardians of the Galaxy, misses out here but it has been in TWO Epics already this year: Thor Epic 9 Even An Immortal Can Die and Guardians of the Galaxy Epic 1: Earth Shall Overcome. It does however set up some of what follows. Essentially this Epic is replacing two old trades, stealing the start of a third and putting the previously unreprinted in colour TPB issues in in between Korvac Saga collected 167 & 168, 170-177 & Thor Annual 6 www.previewsworld.com/Catalog/DEC110701This is mainly writen by Marvel Editor In Chief Jim Shooter, who'd been the writer on the title since Avengers 158. George Perez is the artist at the start of the story having drawn Shooter's 160-162. Perez hadd just had a four month break during which most of his first short FF run from 184-188 & 191-192 occurs. George Tuska draws Avengers 163 while John Byrne does 164-166. 166 is published the same month as X-Men 108, Byrne's first issue on that tiel www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/newsstand.php?publisher=marvel&type=calendar&month=9&year=1977&sort=alphaPerez draws 167-168 169, ommited from the Korvac Saga trade, is a Wolfman/Sal Buscema fill in with Cap, Iron Man & Black Panther. The likelyhood is this is an inventory issue that had been on file for a bit. Shooter & Perez are back for 170-171 but after that Perez drop out and, bar Annual 8, doesn't return to the regular Avengers series till issue 194. 172 & 173 are drawn by Sal Buscema, with 173 being written by David Michelinie and being used as a wrap up for The Champions. 174 has Shooter back, but just plotting with David Wenzel joining as regular artist for the next few issues but still inked by Perez's regular inker Pablo Marcos. 174 is scripted by Bill Mantlo, 175 & 176 by David Michelinie. Shooter fully writes the story's climax in 177 Given all the creative changes during this period it's a miracle The Korvac Saga turns out as well as it does! I have trouble with a lot of Shooter's later writing, his second Avengers run in particular and his obsession with godlike all powerful being, which assume starts with the success of this story - is there any hint of it in earlier DC stories? But this run is top notch, assisted by Perez, Byrne and others. Korvac Saga took a while for me to "get" and when I first read it in Essentials I was very "what's so special about this?" but I've really come to appreciate it in recent years oddly as my disatisfaction with his later works has grown! Onto the gap between the two major stories within: 178 is a Steve Gerber/Carmine Infantino Beast solo story Annual 8 is by Roger Slifer/Perez marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Avengers_Annual_Vol_1_8179 & 180 is a 2 parter by Tom DeFalco/Jim Mooney. The featured Avengers are Thor, Yellowjacket, Wap, Panther, Vision, Scarlet Witch, Iron Man & The Beast, so given the team line up this one has also possibly been on file for a bit. Bar 3 humour credits in Crazy Magazine this is Tom DeFalco's frst work for Marvel: www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/creator.php?creatorid=798There then follows a reprint of the entirity of the superb Knights of Wundagore TPB issues 181-187 www.previewsworld.com/Catalog/DEC082455Avengers 181 sees the return of two creators who had separately briefly worked on the Avengers before uniting here for one of my favourite creator pairing runs: David Micheline wrote issue 173, and scripted 175 & 176 over Jim Shooter's plots www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/creator.php?creatorid=822John Byrne had previously pencilled Avengers 164-6 which are reprinted in Epic 9. www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/creator.php?creatorid=822 By this point X-Men is monthly and Avengers 181 is the same month as X-Men 119. After his Avengers run, which concludes in Epic 11, he has a brief stint drawing FF alongside X-Men then Captain America alongside X-Men leaving both books the same month before assuming writing and drawing duties for his acclaimed run on Fantastic Four For issue 187 Micheline finds himself with Mark Gruenwald & Steven D. Grant co-plotting. From Avengers Heart of Stone we get issue 188 & Annual 9 www.previewsworld.com/Catalog/FEB130643 That trade will be completed when Epic 10 prints 189-196 188 is plotted by Jim Shooter, scripted by Bill Mantlo and pencilled by John Byrne. VERY glad this issue is in here as it very much serves as a Coda to the main Knights of Wundagore with Quicksilver returning home to a surprise announcement from Crystal. Annual 9 is written by Bill Manto and drawn by Don Newton, who is not a name I recognise from having done much work for Marvel but returns for Avengers 204 www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/creator.php?creatorid=523In my head 187 was a certainty to be included in Epic 10. I would have loved 188. But I don't think in my wildest dreams I ever thought we'd get annual 9 in here as well as it takes the book's count to 26 x 17 page issues, counting those annuals as doubles, 469 pages of material before spacers and extras. BIG Book. This Epic contains the first two older Avengers issues that I read when I read them in oversized B&W in the UK Marvel Superheroes magazine, copies picked up from a school fete: 382 reprints issue 187 marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Marvel_Super-Heroes_(UK)_Vol_1_382383 reprints issue 188 marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Marvel_Super-Heroes_(UK)_Vol_1_383To this day 187 remains my favourite issue of the Avengers. Marvel Superheroes was a monthly Marvel UK title that started life as Mighty World of Marvel. It reprinted ALL of the regular Avengers issues in this Epic in glorious oversized black & white. The first monthly issues entitle Marvel Superheroes was issue 353 in September 1979 and reprinted issue 159 comicvine.gamespot.com/marvel-super-heroes/4050-3088/?sortBy=asc353 Sep-79 159 354 Oct-79 160 355 Nov-79 161 356 Dec-79 162 357 Jan-80 163 358 Feb-80 164 359 Mar-80 165 360 Apr-80 166 361 May-80 167 362 Jun-80 168 363 Jul-80 169 364 Aug-80 170 365 Sep-80 171 366 Oct-80 172 367 Nov-80 173 368 Dec-80 174 369 Jan-81 175 370 Feb-81 176 371 Mar-81 177 372 Apr-81 178 373 May-81 Annual 7 374 Jun-81 179 375 Jul-81 180 376 Aug-81 181 377 Sep-81 182 378 Oct-81 183 379 Nov-81 184 380 Dec-81 185 381 Jan-82 186 382 Feb-82 187 383 Mar-82 188 384 Apr-82 189 385 May-82 190 386 Jun-82 191 387 Jul-82 192 388 Aug-82 193 389 Sep-82 194 390 Oct-82 195 391 Nov-82 196 392 Dec-82 197 393 Jan-83 198 394 Feb-83 199 395 Mar-83 200 396 Apr-83 200 397 May-83 201 Backup was provided by a variety of sources with the earlier issues reprinting the last third of the original X-Men run and all of the Champions. With issue 377 the Dave Thorpe and Alan Davis Captain Britain original strip became the regular backup with a variety of supports. Alan Moore replaced Thorpe for issues 387 & 388 before the strip transferred to Marvel UK's new Daredevils Title. Soon after Marvel UK's other long running title Rampage - comicvine.gamespot.com/rampage-monthly/4050-34318/?sortBy=asc - merged into Marvel Superheroes and we had Avengers 198-291 brunning alongside Byrne/Claremont X-Men 137-140 for 5 UK issues with all but the same month's US issues running side by side. The title closed with Marvel Superheroes issue 397. X-Men transfers to the new Mighty World of Marvel in colour and, after something of a gap in the UK, Avengers resumes at a similar point for it's US issues in the UK Spider-Man weekly. We'll pick that story up with Avengers Epic 11. This Epic sets the record for the longest run from Epic 1 at the start of a Title at 10 Epics beating the record of 9 set by Amazing Spider-Man a few weeks back. By the time ASM has 10 in a row from the start next year Avengers Epic 11 The Evil Reborn will have been published. Avengers Epic 9 Final Threat is now the second of the original 6 Epics, after Amazing Spider-Man 20 Cosmic Adventures, to have books either side of it which is something of note given that till 2022 it was the last one to be completely orphaned. It's the last of those 6 Epics to have the following book released: Iron Man 10 The Enemy Within, Thor 16 War of the Pantheons, Fantastic Four 17 All in the Family & Captain America 9 Dawn's Early Light all have their following volumes out but we don't yet have the book that precedes any of them. The next Epic 11 The Evil Reborn nearly squeezes in the entire pre Shooter run: it collects Avengers #189–209, Annual #10; and material from Tales to Astonish #12. I could never get that to Map properly before, I could see it waving at me but couldn't get the numbers right. Getting annual 10 in there (Published same month as 213 but with the pre 211 team) acts as the rebuttal for Avengers 200. The change in monthly page numbers happens in this Epic: 189-199 are 17 pages, 200 is double sized 34 pages and 201+ are 22 pages. That leaves the state of play looking like this: 1 Earth's Mightiest Heroes 1-20 2 Once an Avenger 21-40 3 Masters of Evil 41-56 Annuals 1-2 4 Behold... The Vision 57-76 5 This Beachhead Earth 77-97 6 A Traitor Stalks Among Us 98-114 7 Avengers/Defenders War 115-128 GS1 8 Kang War 129-149 GS2-4 9 Final Threat 150-166 Annuals 6-7 10 The Yesterday Quest 167-188 Annuals 8-9 11 The Evil Reborn 189-209 Annual 10 12 13 14 14 16 Under Siege 264-277 Annual 15 17 Judgement Day 278-285 Annual 16 18 Heavy Metal 286-303 Annual 17 19 Acts of Vengeance 304-318 Annual 18 20 The Crossing Line 319-333 Annual 19 21 Collection Obsession 334-344 Annual 20 22 Operation Galactic Storm 345-347 23 Fear The Reaper 348-359 Annual 21 24 The Gatherers Strike! 360-366 Annual 22 25 The Gathering 367-377 Annual 23 26 Taking AIM 378-388 27 28 29 I think Epic 12 then looks like 210-226 & Annual 11: Mantlo's one issue, the entire Shooter II run through to the issue before the Stern run starts - that looks like a far too tempting target. Annual 11 is same month as 226 but probably should be between either 218 & 219 or 220 & 221. I make that 19 issues worth - they could bulk it up with Jocasta's fate in MTIO 92 & 93 (Jocasta & Machine Man) OR pull Amazing Spider-Man Annual 16 forward from Epic 13, possibly pulling 236 & 237 forward into 13 from 14 and creating space for some extras? For me the Stern Gap maps thus: 13 227-235 ASM Annual 16, Vision & Scarlet Witch 1-4, FF256, Hawkeye 1-4 (possibles MTU 129 Vision MTU 130 Scarlet Witch) ASM Annual 16, by Stern & introducing Captain Marvel, starts the book. FF issue crosses over with Avengers 233. Hawkeye breaks leg in 231, Sky Cycle debuts in 234 setting up the LS which needs to be printed before issue 239. 14 236-250 Annuals 12 & 13 (possibles Marvel Fanfare 14 Vision, Secret Wars 1-12, MTU 142 Captain Marvel, MTU 143 Starfox) No way that Secret Wars will get in but I've listed it here, between 242 & 243, as that is where it would be placed. Marvel Fanfare 14 would be nice because issue 253 refers to it. 15 251-263, Annual 14, FF Annual 19, FF286 (18.5 issues, 1.5 short. I quite fancy sticking the double sized 250 into here and moving the Fanfare & MTUs into Epic 14) I've done a little digging. TWO titles have had a three Epic year but those were both in somewhat exceptional circumstances: FF (17, 20 & 1) and Cap (9, 12 & 1) both had 3 books in 2014. Those were both titles first release (Iron Man, Thor, ASM and Avengers had their first books in 2013) There's then a second round for all six original books, plus a first for DD, at 1 per month. The release rate then goes up and the last third of the year has a big round of Epic 1s. I suspect we'd have seen more three a years after 2014 but the start of 2015 was when the Star Wars titles started and the nine big books settled into their two per year pattern So it hasn't happened for the majority of the Epics lifetime: the 3 ASM in 2023 is caused by the first ASM being a carryover from 2022.

Not 100% sure why they decided to separate the Ghost Rider series into two different Epic Collection ranges, especially as we suspect they'll be a fair bit of the original Ghost Rider later on in the Danny Ketch title. I wonder if it's to do with wanting to do Ghost Rider Robbie Reyes Modern Epics down the line? I'm not a fan of Marvel's mystic titles so even though I knew the 90s Ghost Rider revival was a HUGE hit I had no experience of it outside the X-Men crossover and the Ghost Rider/Punisher/Wolverine books. I've had a go a while back at working out how this title will progress: Danny Ketch 2: Ghost Rider 13-27, Ghost Rider/Wolverine/Punisher:Hearts of Darkness #1, X-Men 9 Material From Marvel Holiday Special #1 & X-Men 8 Danny Ketch 3: Ghost Rider 28-33, Ghost Rider/Blaze: Spirits of Vengeance 1-4, Morbius: The Living Vampire #1, Darkhold: Pages from the Book of Sins #1, Nightstalkers #1, Ghost Rider/Captain America: Fear #1, Material From: Marvel Superheroes 9 Danny Ketch 4: Ghost Rider 34-39, Ghost Rider/Blaze: Spirits of Vengeance 5-11, Web of Spider-Man 95-96 Material From: Midnight Sons Unlimited 1 & 2 Danny Ketch 5: Midnight Massacre/Road To Vengeance: Missing/Legacy of Blood: Ghost Rider 40-43, Annual 1, Spirits of Vengeance 12-16, Nightstalkers #10, Darkhold: Pages from the Book of Sins #11, Morbius: The Living Vampire #12, Midnight Sons Unlimited #3, Blaze:Legacy of Blood #1-4 Danny Ketch 6: Siege of Darkness: Nightstalkers #14-15 Ghost Rider 44-45 (Material From ?) Marvel Comics Presents #143-146 Darkhold: Pages from the Book of Sins #15-16 Morbius: The Living Vampire #16-17 Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme #60-61 Ghost Rider/Blaze: Spirits of Vengeance #17-18 Midnight Sons Unlimited #4 Danny Ketch 7: Ghost Rider 46-52, Ghost Rider/Blaze: Spirits of Vengeance 19-23, Blaze 1-2, Material from Midnight Sons Unlimited 5-6 Danny Ketch 8: Ghost Rider 53-60, Annual 2, Blaze 3-9, Ghost Rider/Punisher/Wolverine: Dark Designs Material from Midnight Sons Unlimited 7-8 Danny Ketch 9: Ghost Rider 61-75, Blaze 10-12, Material from Midnight Sons Unlimited 9, Ghost Rider Crossroads Danny Ketch 10: Ghost Rider 76-93, -1, Finale The splitting of the Ghost Rider series in two might change things here slightly though. Likewise when we thought this was Ghost Rider Epic 6 that enabled us to have a good stab at Epics 2-5 for that title: 2. GR 12-28; MTIO 8; DD 138; MP 28; MTU 58 Human Fly 2 3. GR 29-50; MTU 91 4. Hawkeye Epic 2 The Way of the Arrow prhcomics.com/book/?isbn=9781302953348Publication Date: 17th October More classic tales starring the Avenging Archer, Hawkeye! The true origin of Hawkeye! Everybody knows that young Clint Barton joined a traveling carnival, where he was taken under the wing of the Swordsman. But why did the legendary blade-wielder teach Clint archery? That’s where Trick Shot comes in — the one man Hawkeye hoped he would never see again! But now he’s back…and has issued a death challenge to his one-time protégé! Meanwhile, Hawkeye gets hired by Silver Sable and goes up against some of the Marvel Universe’s deadliest villains — the Red Skull, Doctor Octopus, the Abomination and…the Orb?! But Clint’s marital difficulties with Mockingbird aren’t helped when his old girlfriend, the Black Widow, calls for his aid! Plus, the solo spotlight turns to Clint’s fellow Avengers — including Moon Knight, the Scarlet Witch, She-Hulk, the Black Panther and Namor! So, following the example of Hawkeye Epic 2 having all the Solo Avengers material, we expect Hawkeye Epic 3 will collect Avengers Spotlight 22-40 www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/series.php?page=gallery&seriesid=411022 The Swordsman 23 The Vision (reprinted in Avengers West Coast Epic Collection 4:Vision Quest) 24 Firebird 25 Rick Jones 26 * Acts of Vengeance: Hawkeye & Iron Man 27 Avengers Reserves: Firebird, Hellcat, Moondragon, Black Widow, Captain Marvel & Stingray 28 Wonder Man/Wasp 29 Iron Man 30 * Hawkeye 26 & 30 are full length stories rather than the half book Hawkeye/half book another Avenger, both featuring Hawkeye. One possibility is the Hawkeye/Mockingbird "...and Make Death Proud to Take Us" tale from Avengers West Coast 100 but that's just 10 pages. I suspect it's likely that Hawkeye Epic 3 will collect the complete Vicious Circle crossover featuring material from: * Force Works #12 (17 pages) www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/story.php?storyid=119144* War Machine #15 (17 pages) www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/story.php?storyid=155430* Iron Man #317 (17 pages) www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/story.php?storyid=408666The Vicous Circle issues were all published June 1995 www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/newsstand.php?publisher=marvel&type=cover&month=6&year=1995&sort=alphaThat would leave Hawkeye in Epics looking like this: 1 The Avenging Archer Hawkeye #1-4; Avengers #16, 63–65, 189, 223; Marvel Team-Up #22, 92, 95; Captain America #317; material from Tales of Suspense #57, 60, 64; Marvel Tales #100; Marvel Fanfare #3, 39; Marvel Super Action #1 2 The Way of the Arrow Solo Avengers #1-20, Avengers Spotlight #21 3 Avengers Spotlight #22-38, Material from Avengers West Coast #100 Vicous Circle Material from Force Works Vol 1 12, War Machine Vol 1 15 & Iron Man Vol 1 317 4 Shafted Hawkeye (vol. 2) #1-4; Hawkeye (vol. 3) #1-8; Hawkeye: Earth's Mightiest Marksman #1; Avengers #502; The Pulse #10; New Avengers #26, 30; Young Avengers Presents #6; and material from Marvel Comics Presents #159-161 Hawkeye's first Modern Epic has been scheduled for July 2024: Modern Epic 1 The Reunion New Avengers: The Reunion #1-4; Hawkeye & Mockingbird #1-6; Widowmaker #1-4; Hawkeye: Blindspot #1-4; Hawkeye & Mockingbird Sketchbook #1; and material from Dark Reign: New Nation #1; Enter the Heroic Age #1 Since the material in here follows directly on from that in Hawkeye Epic 4, Hawkeye Modern Epic 1 is effectively Hawkeye Epic 5!

I can't find anything like that for Moon Knight. From the second Marc Spector Omnibus we can infer that Moon Knight Epic 8 is Marc Spector Moon Knight 52-60, Moon Knight (1998) 1-4, Moon Knight (1998) 1-4 & Black Panther #20-22 Marc Spector finishes 1994 with issue 60 Moon Knight (1998) is the Resurrection War 4 issue Limited Series www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/series.php?page=gallery&seriesid=8783(issue 4 is 30 pages, slightly bigger than normal) Moon Knight (1999) is the High Strangers 4 issue Limited Series www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/series.php?page=gallery&seriesid=8918Other options to bring this Epic up to strength found on the Moon Knight Appearances list are Avengers #12 & Marvel Knights #4-9 & 11-14,

Incredible Hulk Epic 8 The Curing of Dr. Bannerprhcomics.com/book/?isbn=9781302948795Publication Date: 24th October A collection of triumph and tragedy for the Hulk, complete with a rampage against friend and foe alike! The only thing bigger than the Hulk’s anger is his love for Jarella, so when he’s shrunk down and able to return her microscopic world of K’ai, our big green buddy couldn’t be happier. But a return to Earth leads to tragedy, and, well, that’s when things are going to get smashed. Heart-broken and enraged, nothing can stop Hulk’s rampage, not S.H.I.E.L.D., not the Defenders, not even the might of the Absorbing Man. Only when Doc Samson arrives to delve into the mind of man and monster can the world hope to cure Bruce Banner. Also featuring the introduction of Doctor Druid, a classic Hulk story by Jim Starlin and an Annual featuring the newest creation of the Enclave—the utopian scientists who created Adam Warlock! I have Hulk 201 - an acquisition in a lot when I was trying to buy a complete Mantlo run IIRC (I managed it in the end!) - and I read bits of Hulk 223-226 in the UK Spider-Man issues 579-586 comicvine.gamespot.com/spider-man/4050-47656/?sortBy=ascThese issues reprint: 579 PPTSSM 85, Hulk 223 580 PPTSSM 86, Hulk 223 581 PPTSSM 86, Hulk 223 582 PPTSSM 87, Hulk 224 583 PPTSSM 87, Hulk 225 584 MTU 136, Hulk 225 585 MTU 136, Hulk 226 586 ASM 249, Hulk 226 PPTSSM - Peter Paker The Spectacular Spider-Man MTU - Marvel Team Up ASM - Amazing Spider-Man The format for the UK Spider-Man title in the early 80s was half a US Spider-Man issue, rotated round the three ongoing titles, with the rest of the comic filled with reprints from another title - when I first encountered it the backup was Fantastic Four (142-144), then Thor (234-236) alongside the original X-Men (32-34). I got odd issues here and there, rarely consecutive, and had a gap of a month or so and was surprised when I next got an issue to find the backups I knew gone replaced by the Hulk. The Hulk was popular in the UK in the late 70s/early 80s - the TV Show helped - and had served a previous period as Spider-Man's back up. In recent years I've tracked down a run of the UK Spider-Man from the point it was retitled Amazing Friends to the title's regeneration into a comic focussed at a much younger age and worked out what was reprinted where for this period. The UK Spider-Man also printed 227-237 & Captain America 230 which will be in Epic 9 which has already been scheduled for July 2024 Incredible Hulk Epic 9: Kill or Be Killed Collecting: Incredible Hulk (vol. 2) #227-244, Annual #7-9, Captain America #230, Marvel Calendar 1979; and material from * Marvel Treasury Edition #20, 24 The next later Hulk Epic had also been announced: Incredible Hulk Epic 15: Ground Zero Collecting: Incredible Hulk (vol. 2) #331-346; Marvel Graphic Novel No. 29 - The Incredible Hulk and the Thing: The Big Change Unfortunately it's one of a number of books that has fallen off the schedule :-( Assuming Epic 15 is still coming then that leaves the overall picture for the Hulk looking like this: 1 Man or Monster TTA 59 2 The Hulk Must Die TTA 60-96 3 The Leader Lives TTA 97-101, Hulk 102-117 4 In The Hands Of Hydra 118-137 5 Who Will Judge The Hulk? 138-156 6 Crisis on Counter Earth 157-178 7 And Now The Wolverine 179-200 annual 5 8 The Curing of Dr Banner 201-226 annual 6 9 Kill or Be Killed 227-244 annuals 7-9 (due July 2024) 10 11 12 13 Crossroads 297-313 annual 13 14 Going Grey 314-330 annual 14-15 15 Ground Zero 331-346 16 17 18 19 Ghosts of the Past 397-406 annual 18-19 20 Future Imperfect 407-419 annual 20 21 Fall of the Pantheon 420-435 22 Ghosts of the Future 436-448 23 24 The Lone & Level Sands 460-474 annual 98 Epics 9-12, issues 227-296, cover the majority of Sal Buscema's run alongside first Stern and then Mantlo. During the later part of that Mantlo & Sal are doing TWO books per month together, Hulk & Rom. The end of the Buscema run is already collected in paperback in the thick Mantlo trades Pardonned & Regression, while the earlier part has been collected in Masterworks in recent years: MMW 12 The Incredible Hulk #197-209 and Annual #5 Aug. 2018 MMW 13 The Incredible Hulk #210-222 and Annual #6 Sept. 2019 MMW 14 The Incredible Hulk #223-233, Annual #7, Captain America #230, Marvel Comics Calendar 1979 and material from Marvel Treasury #17 Sept. 2020 MMW 15 The Incredible Hulk #234-244 and Annual #8-9 May-21 MMW 16 The Incredible Hulk #245-255 and Marvel Treasury Edition #25. Aug-22 MMW 17 The Incredible Hulk #256-265, Annual #10-11 and Contest of Champions #1-3. MMW 18 The Incredible Hulk #266-279 Masterworks is now into the material at the start of the Mantlo books: Mantlo: Pardoned 269-285 Mantlo: Regression 286-300 & Annual 12 (296 is only represented in excerpts due to Rom rights issues) And the last few issues of Regression are in Hulk Epic 14 Crossroads. To collect it in Epics you're probably looking at something similar to this: Epic 10 245-261 Annual 10 (250 double sized, 22 pages as of 253) Epic 11 262-277, Annual 11 Epic 12 278-296, Annual 12 The 15-18 gap *EXACTLY* matched the Peter David Visionaries books: 1 331-339 2 340-348 3 349-354 Web of Spider-Man 44. So some of the possibles could be slipped in That material has recently been reprinted in Omnibus form which explains why Epics haven't been near it yet and why Epic 23 didn't appear immediately after Epic 22! The Incredible Hulk by Peter David 1 Incredible Hulk (vol. 2) #328, 331–368; Web of Spider-Man #44, Fantastic Four #320, material from Marvel Comics Presents #26 & 45 January 28, 2020 2 Incredible Hulk (vol. 2) #369–400, Annual #16–18; X-Factor (1986) #76; material from Marvel Holiday Special (1991) #2 November 10, 2020 3 Incredible Hulk (vol. 2) #401–435, Annual #19–20; Incredible Hulk vs. Venom #1; Hulk: Future Imperfect #1–2; Tales to Astonish (1994) #1; Incredible Hulk Ashcan Edition; material from Marvel Holiday Special (1991) #3 May 12, 2021 4 Incredible Hulk (vol. 2) #436–467, -1, Annual '97; Savage Hulk (1996) #1; Cutting Edge (1995) #1; Cable (1993) #34; Onslaught: Marvel Universe (1996) #1; Incredible Hulk: Hercules Unleashed (1996) #1; Heroes Reborn: The Return (1997) #1-4 May 24, 2022 We *KNOW* from Epics 22 & 24 that Epic 23 will be issues 449-459, -1 & Annual '97. Omnibus 4 very much suggests that the Peter David written Incredible Hulk: Hercules Unleashed (1996) #1 & Heroes Reborn: The Return (1997) #1-4, which heavily features the Hulk, will provide the material to bring that book up to strength.

The material within is long after I bailed on the series so I'm afraid I've got little to say about it. A quick peak at my copy when it arrived revealed some rather nice later 90s art but friends of mine tell me they were not impressed with the writing. Excalibur stands with Epics at both ends of it's run: 1 The Sword is Drawn 1-11 2 Cross Time Caper 12-30 3 Girl's School from Heck 31-41 4 Curiouser and Curiouser 42-58 5 6 7 8 The Battle For Britain 104-115, -1 9 You Are Cordially Invited 116-125, 1-4 Missing in the middle is the following www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/series.php?seriesid=4069&page=gallery59-103, Annuals 1-2 A large part of that has been published in two runs of Visionaries books: Of the previously collected in paperback material Alan Davis writes & draws till 67 and that's collected in the Alan Davis Excalibur Visionaries 1 Collecting EXCALIBUR #42-50 2 Collecting EXCALIBUR (1988) #51-58 and EXCALIBUR: XX CROSSING ONE-SHOT. 3 Collecting EXCALIBUR (1988) #59-67. Of those just Alan Davis Excalibur Visionaries 3 remains unreprinted in Epics The material bs between the Visionaries lines, Excalibur 68-82 & Annuals 1-2 is mainly written by Scott Lobdell assisted by a variety of artists. Of those issues I believe just 71 (Fatal Attractions) and 82 (Phalanx Covenant: Life Signs) have been reprined in paperback. Warren Ellis writes 83-103 and that's collected in the Warren Ellis Excalibur Visionaries: 1 Collecting EXCALIBUR (1988) #83-90 and material from X-MEN PRIME. 2 Collecting EXCALIBUR (1988) #91-95, X-MAN #12 and STARJAMMERS (1995) #1-4. 3 Collecting EXCALIBUR (1988) #96-103 and PRYDE AND WISDOM #1-3.
