Mark, that's pretty rotten news. Sorry to hear that.
Nick, I shall keep the fingers crossed for a positive outcome from thy interview.
I have been very pleased to have a day off today. I had a bit of a lie-in this morning - I was still in my bed at eight am! Spent the rest of the day doing some chores around the house (disassembling a set of shelves to store them away, boxing up a load of stuff to go to charity shops, that sort of thing) and now I am enjoying the nice weather with all the windows open and a bottle of Eastern European beer beside me. Later on this evening I think I shall watch a dvd or two. A pleasant way to start a long weekend.

Martin- nope, this place is a mere ten minutes up the road by one bus that stops at the end of my street. It's about two miles and downhill all the way home so I could walk it when it's not raining. Also they have lots of bang-up-to-date equipment and a five month contract (which this is) would give me worthwhile experience in operating it. In other words it would be an ideal start to my career and I'm doubly miffed that I acted like a stuttering lemon throughout. Fingers and toes crossed then! Martin

A mixed week. Completing the course now looks beyond my reach so unless something unexpected happens next week I'll have to junk it and proceed at full tilt at job hunting instead. My dad has managed to snag a new job. I did have a few enjoyable days in Funmerlino though and hope to cook dead animal products in the great outdoors tomorrow, weather permitting.

You were good company doc and in between Robot War work there were laughs galore and many, many bad movies. Also the 66 Batman has a commentary by Adam West and Burt Ward that was a hoot.
Sorry to hear the course has ended up going to panshite. I stand ready to smite those who have stood in your way.

An enjoyable film, but not a B movie by any means.

Which bit of it? Have you tried using bullets and dynamite on your friend Robert? Your course woes confound me, though I won't press you for the details unless you want to share them. I simply hope that what you have done on the course still proves of benefit to you, in terms of learning/experience and on your c.v. It keeps raining on and off here, which has made the hay-fever and extreme heat of summer almost non-existent. I miss neither. Been to Bristol and back again this week. Convenient having to attend occasional work meetings right near where my parents live. Maybe a spot of story-telling down the Bay this lunchtime, Doctor Who tonight, peregrine duties tomorrow. No travel next week, though I am giving a talk to approx. 100 businesspeople on Friday, which should be fun. Have a battery-recharging weekend, everyone. Martin

Next week I'm considering teaching some of the Poles at my workplace my version of the English language. Occasionally some of my Polish workmates come up to me and ask me if I could teach them certain English words so I thought of a good idea - teach them the English language according to me. I'm going to go in on Monday and teach them that another word for 'hello' is 'cowabunga' for a start so that whenever they see an English worker first thing in the morning they will not say 'hello' to them but rather something that you normally associate with the Turtles.

I get a kind of cruel and mean-spirited amusement out of the mental image of the rotors tearing off and it plumetting to Earth the first time it tried that turbine-assist maneuver anywhere in the region of real physics. On the other matter, Ralph is indeed correct - there is a beer that has what amounts to a tech-spec readout on it, with bars for "fruitiness", "flavour" and the like. It also claims on the label, as I recall, to be the "beer of the gods". Karl

There are quite a few bottles of beer that have tech specs on the label. Morrisons does a selection of bottled beers 4 for £5 and most of them have tech specs.

Sorry 'bout the course 'Doc. And realy sorry for you Mark, that's crap. I'm sure you'll both get sorted.
Well done Nickos! Blimey! Check out the big brain on bread everyone!
Hello Sportsfans! I've had the weekend off (well most of it) for my Mother's surprise 60th birthday party. She had a great time and was suitabily surprised! Various relatives visited so it's been a fun, but jam packed weekend. Piglet had a riot! In for a stand-alone night shift before 3 more days off. Oh it's a hard hard life. (prob gunna have a nightmere shift now!).
I'm in trouble though. Trouble from Mrs Shockprowl. Little Piglet has been saying, over and over again, "Damnit". She says it in context. She says it and grins at us ('cos she knows she shouldn't say it). She obv got it off me. But I hardly ever swear at the best of times, let alone in front of my toddler! Little parrot. I tell ya, since she turned two, she's really been flexing her independance muscles! Oh boy oh boy! Terrible Twos they call it! And they're right!
Hope everyone's had a good weekend!

A check on the scales this evening reveals what I had suspected as trousers have become uncomfortably tight. Put half a stone on in the last month. Argh, but then I have been eating/drinking pretty badly of late so my own fault.
Off the chocolate/beer/pizzas for a while, methinks.

Dashing for the train on Saturday evening has revealed that I am badly out of condition myself. I made it - Renfield Street to a train on Queen Street Station - but I'm not sure that I could have kept the pace up much further without throwing something out of whack. I've lost a lot of the stamina and I'm none to pleased about that. Time to pick up the pace on my walks I think and see if I can't get back into my proper form.
A quiet day for me today - watching a few DVD's, namely "Battlestar Galactica" Season Three, "Eureka Seven" (giant mecha that fly through the air on surfboards by riding waves of "Transparence Lightparticles", always nice to see a show that isn't averse to wearing its seam of comedy on its sleeve) and generally mooching around the house.
Quite enjoying this long weekend - it feels like it has been a long time in coming.
